📝 Larry Lewis Isaiah Barnes making most of his opportunity at Tulsa

When TU men's basketball coach Eric Konkol was planning to revamp the roster, Isaiah Barnes is exactly the type of player he had in mind. And so far, Barnes is just what Konkol and his staff envisioned.

A&M

So A&M is going to fire Jimbo Fisher today, a day after winning 51-10 against Miss St. He's 45-25 at the school and plays in the toughest division in college football. What the hell were they expecting? To be Alabama? $76M buyout at this point and they're expected to pay all of it. My guess is they can go after whoever they want and that person will demand the same type of contract and buyout knowing if they don't win the SEC West they'll get fired and they'll still walk away set for life. Who do they go after? Dabo? Mike Norvell? Fritz?

Game thoughts Incarnate Word

That team was weird and officials were worse. Mitchell and Idlet were in crowd. I don’t think highly of Heirman after how he and Idlet acted on here when Wojcik was fired. Heirman acts like Doug. It’s not quite as crazy, but he says some abrasive stuff.

We have some nice players. We need to get the inside game going. It seems like we play Reed and Garcia together as some sort of checking line. Cobe is a star, Barnes was a steal, and Haggerty just does things. The stretch with the Cobe dunk, block, and three was special.

I think the officials had some prop bet on us winning by five. They were all bad. I’m surprised Konkol didn’t say more.

IW did some cheap crap that wasn’t called. They should never be invited back.

📝 Larry Lewis RECAP: Cobe Williams leads Tulsa past Incarnate Word, 85-71

If Tulsa gets this type of performance from Cobe Williams and Isaiah Barnes every night, TU is going to be difficult to beat. Williams scored 27 points, and Barnes had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, as TU defeated Incarnate Word 85-71 Saturday afternoon in front of 2,566 fans at the Reynolds Center.

OU Whining Twitter

Is the best Twitter...and I'd be shocked if Bedlam gets renewed inside of the next 10 years because right now OSU can proudly proclaim "We won the last Bedlam game" and OU is going to have to live with that and there's nothing they can do about it. Of course $70M in SEC $ will soften that blow I'm sure.

Online Universities

So I've decided I want to finish getting my college degree. Obviously with my current career, being a full time student isnt possible. My technical training has gotten me pretty far in life, but I just feel like something is missing, and I think finishing college might help. At least it can't hurt. If anything help set an example for my 5 year old.

Does anyone have any recommendations for online options? There are a ton out there anywhere from $150-$500 a credit hour.

Does staying in state save money? I'm pursuing an engineering degree if that helps.

Thanks ahead of time.

Another tough loss for Tulsa - memorial service Tuesday

My TU seatmate and friend died unexpectedly on October 31st. John McNulty received his Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from TU, and eventually came back to head the psychology department. He retired just a couple of years ago.

My late dad, who died in May, John, and I attended football and men's basketball games together for over 20 years. John's convenient driveway just a few houses behind the laundomat on Florence was my parking space as recently as the Rice game.

That's a tough one for the doctor to swallow after losing my dad in May, and then my friend and TU supported Jake Jorishie two months ago. Anyway, for those in town, there is a memorial service on Tuesday at Sharp Chapel.

GAMES OF INTEREST 11.09.23 - INAUGURAL POST (I know a couple days late)

So, I am making my inaugural post today. I wasn’t able to do the post the last three days due to the general election here in Virginia and the need to get some sleep. This is a small one but will do some recapping.

So far, every conference team has won all of their games except for UAB (lost their only contest) and South Florida. The Bulls play their first game today facing South Carolina State, who Tulsa will face very soon for the Missouri MTE. We can scope out both teams in one game.

Every non-Conference opponent lost their opening game except for South Carolina State and yooler.

I did enjoy finding out that Abilene Christian beat out Oklahoma State by 5. Serves them right. Lol.

Last night

#10 FAU beat Loyola Chicago on the road 75-62
Jackson State got pummeled by San Diego 87-61
New Mexico toppled the sisters of the poor in Sul Ross State 84-49

Todays Games

There are four games today and SMU playing their third game in 4 days after knocking off the Leathernecks of Western Illinois 90-53. South Florida plays its first contest of the season as we mentioned earlier. Northwestern State, Who probably has the toughest Non-Conference Schedule by far, travels to New Orleans to face Tulane and then the shockers play host to the Hilltoppers.

AND ONE

Mississippi valley State was voted ranked number 1 among the worst colleges that have the lowest return on investments by Finance 101. The school graduates will have to face a negative return on investment of $174,800 over the next 20 years. Tulsa will be facing the Delta Devils in the coming days.

📝 Larry Lewis Preview: Uncertainty at QB remains for Tulsa as Hurricane travels to Tulane

At first glance, Tulsa's game at No. 20 Tulane Saturday at 11 a.m. in New Orleans looks like it shouldn't even be competitive. A major Green Wave victory of epic proportions. Especially considering how bad Tulsa has been playing, losing its last 4 games, including last week's embarrassing overtime loss to Charlotte (3-6, 2-3 AAC). However, Tulsa (3-6, 1-4) is looking to prove all the doubters wrong against Tulane. A tall order, but you truly never know.

5+7 Playoff proposal

New proposal no longer guarantees a G5 champion, but it doesn't guarantee all P5 champions are in either. If a G5 champion is ranked higher than say the Pac 12 champ, they are guaranteed a spot.

TU Women vs New Orleans

TU needs to find some depth. Poindexter has 24 with time left in the 3rd. Crawford has 10 and everyone else has 5 or less. We get almost nothing from the bench. And this team is go go go all the time almost to the point they're out of control. It leads to a ton of turnovers because of ill-advised passes forced into traffic (wonder if they talk to Braxton too much) or dribblling 1 v 3 into traffic.

BTW, TU leads by 15 with 1.39 left in the 3rd

GAMES OF INTEREST 11.10.23

All the American conference teams won yesterday by 10 or more points. SMU has impressed me by playing 3 games in 4 days and winning by big margins in all three contests. I know they level of play was not as high but that is getting tournament form in. They should be good this year.

Out of all the days this weekend, this will be the heaviest list of games. Tomorrow will be a Game Day for TU but until then we need to dive into the list for today. There are a few “Special” type games today.

You have the “He Gets us Hall of Fame Series” in Charlotte, NC today at the Spectrum Center. Liberty vs Charlotte, Virginia vs Florida and Virginia Tech vs South Carolina. That should be a great day of basketball for those in attendance.

The Asheville Championship tournament starts today with Clemson vs UAB and Maryland vs Davidson. The finals are on Sunday.

Lastly you have the Veterans Classic in Annapolis, MD today. This features Navy vs Temple and College of Charleston vs Duquesne. This is only a one-day classic.

Todays Games

In the rest of the games today you have Central Arkansas taking on a division 3 team in Hendrix along with Oral Roberts playing one of there many games against NAIA schools. Mississippi Valley continues its death march rolling into Norman to get slaughtered at the hands of the Sooners. UTSA travels to Minnesota and this game will be on Peacock. Rice is playing host to a team with superior intellect in Harvard and the game of the night pits Memphis at Missouri.

Also, the women host New Orleans at the Reynolds Center at 11 a.m. this morning.

AND ONE

Today is the 248th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. Today I salute my fellow Marines past and present by wishing them a Happy Birthday. Semper Fi.
