📝 Larry Lewis Preview -- Tulsa has chance to finish on positive note against East Carolina

When going through a rough season, every opponent seems like a tough one. Conversely, when a team is having a good season, it expects to win every game. Tulsa (3-8, 1-6 AAC) is in the former category this season, unfortunately. That is why its 1 p.m. game Saturday afternoon at East Carolina seems like, although winnable, it isn't a game that Tulsa almost certainly will win.

James Madison

JMU is #21 and 10-1 in football, #22 and 5-0 in basketball, just beat Fresno by 31. In the Sunbelt.

I have read that they have a very pro sports president, and have made a good investment in sports.

Seems like a case study for what we should be doing. Biggest difference is they have 20k undergrads. Which also enters our discussion, that we need to grow our enrollment for many reasons, not just sports related.

🏀 News/Notes Where are they now?

Bryant Selebangue was the one player I was hoping TU could keep on the roster from last season. He averaged around 12 points and 9 rebounds last season. If he had stayed, he'd probably be getting even more minutes and would have fit nicely with this athletic and long squad.

He's now at Arizona State getting 16 minutes per game, averaging 4 points and 4.7 rebounds. ASU is 2-1 and has not looked impressive so far.

---------------

Tim Dalger is having a nice season at St. Louis so far. Still has too many turnovers, but he's shooting 40 percent from three and averaging 11.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in 23.3 minutes per game. St. Louis is 4-2 with a win over Sam Griffin and Wyoming. Glad to see Tim having success.

------------

Speaking of Griffin, he is leading 4-1 Wyoming at 20.4 points per game on 52 percent from three (14 of 27). 15 turnovers in five games though.

-------------

Central Michigan is 1-3, picking up their first win recently over South Florida. Anthony Pritchard leads CMU at 16 points per game and is their 2nd leading rebounder at 5.3. He's shooting 45.5 percent from three. Still turnover prone -- 16 in four games.

Just thought it'd be interesting to check up on some of these guys.

Isaiah Hill — Fresno

I was looking at the box score from the Fresno/New Mexico State game and noticed Hill led Fresno with 21 pts. He’s having a good year as a senior.

He’s tied for the team’s lead in scoring, at 14.8 pts/game. He’s shooting 42.2% fgs and 44% 3-pt, 100% fts (10-10), 4.3 rbs and 1.3 stls What impressed me was he’s averaging 6.8 assts to only 2.3 to’s.

Another interesting tidbit from looking at that game is a player on the NM St team. They have a 6-2 guard in Chris Cook from Midwest City.

As a senior, Cook was named class 6-A all-state and offensive POY. He played at Northeastern State in Tahlequah for 3 years before transferring to NM-St.

At NM St, he’s avg 12.7 pts shooting 56.4% fgs, 42.9% 3-pt and 92.3% fts. He’s doing quite well coming from a D2 school.

Non Conference Schedule

We’re off to a good start but against inferior teams. We should enter conference play with a decent record. A lot will depend, IMO, whether Willis is back in the lineup. He’s probably our best shooter, especially from 3-pt range.

We could go undefeated in non-con (highly unlikely) or finish with 2-3 losses (more likely). I feel our toughest games will be OSU and Mo St. We’ve been down playing OSU but they are/have been dealing with injuries, and significant ones.

Their 1st loss to Abilene Christian was without, IMO, their most valuable player pg Javon Small along with Jamyron Keller and Isaiah Miranda.

Miranda, the 7-1 Rivals 4-star talent from NC St and a player we really wanted in the portal, has yet to play due to a hip injury.

Keller, a top 150 player missed the 1st 4 games and returned from a wrist injury to lead the Cowboys with 18 pts, including 4-7 from 3-pt in their win over New Orleans.

Bryce Thompson injured his knee in the St Bonnie loss and hasn’t played since. 2 of their 3 losses have been by 2 pts. IMO, they are a much better team than their early record indicates. When they get their players healthy they’re going to be pretty good.

They have too much talent, although much of their talent, like ours, is young.

Missouri State has a good team. Their only loss was their opener at West Virginia and they led much of the game (up 30-24 at half). They beat ORU by 15 and Abilene Christian by 18.

I’ve been watching a lot of basketball this year and the Valley has some really good teams. I’m watching Northern Iowa up by 6 on North Carolina at the half. Drake, SIU, Mo St, Bradley, Indians St, etc are decent.

Interesting side note—announcers said that the best shooter on UNC’s team is Dougies son Paxson Wojcik. Cue The Beach Boys. Lol

📝 Larry Lewis Game Recap -- TU puts away SC State to win Golden Turkey Slam

It will be tough to lose with Jared Garcia playing like he did Monday night against South Carolina State. Garcia had 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, and a steal to lead Tulsa to a 90-70 win in front of 2,791 fans at the Reynolds Center.

Technical oddity happened to me posting on here.

@Chris Harmon

I left something unposted. I was either going to come back to it later to edit and post, or just erase it. I don't know if this is a new feature to chrome, a new feature to the rivals site, or some oddity that will never happen again. On my pc, in the bar that you can move to any side of the screen you want it, where it throws up icons for apps you have open, it threw up a smaller icon for chrome. It was separate from the one already there, and it said Reply next to it. I clicked on it and it opened up a new tab with my unfinished post, next to all my other open tabs.

That's a nice feature that keeps unfinished posts in a separate and referenceable place on your screen. Just wondering if anybody else had experienced this, and/or knew where this possible new feature came from. I posted a link below that shows a screen shot of it.
