🏈 Recruiting OFFICIAL VISITORS -- 12/1/2023

In speaking with prospects, high school coaches and sources close to the program, below are the prospects expected on campus this weekend for official visits. Recruiting changes quickly, so there could be more that I'm not aware of.

GAMES OF INTEREST (11.25.23 - 12.1.23) @ LITTLE ROCK

ITS GAMEDAY!!!!!!!

Tulsa travels to Little rock to play their first game away from the Reynolds Center. Yooler has 264 KenPom and is 1-4 on the season so far. It is vital that TU gets this win as they are higher on the KenPom and have a better record, of course to lesser talent, but it is on the road. Road wins are needed to make teams great.

Todays Games

Nice little slate of games today. Jackson State travels to DC to take on Georgetown. Incarnate word and UTSA take on each other in the last meeting of the Cardinal/Roadrunner Classic.

East Carolina travels to Fairfax to take on George Mason. While Norfolk State travels to Wichita to take on the Shockers.

The game to watch today at least the first half is the South Carolina State vs Missouri State game. We have already played South Carolina State and Missouri State is coming up in our non-conference slate.

AND ONE

Tulsa starts the day with a 207 KenPom. Using this metric only 4 teams in the non-con have a better rating. Oklahoma St. (Dec 10), Missouri St. (Dec 16), Loyola Chicago (Dec 5) and ORU (Dec 2). These also happen to be our next 4 games after today as well. All of the American teams have a better KenPom than Tulsa except Rice and UTSA.

Bonus: Today is the end of Football season as Tulsa is currently in Greenville, NC to take on the Pirates. I would be there but I have family at the house and I don’t want to hear it from the wife.

GO TU!!!

OK High School Basketball Preview

I went to Union's season tipoff last week. Still have the 7 footer. His little brother who's in 9th grade is on the team too...he's around 6'4" and looks tiny. Union also has a 6'7" PF they run out there who is a nice HS player with a lot of different facets to his game. That said, the player TU should be watching from this group is Dalen Fulller. 6'4", they list him as a SG but he's probably running more of the PG role. Really good ball handler, good passer, good shooter. This kid can jump out of the gym and probably has the same ability to elevate as Eric Coley and I'm not exaggerating. In warm ups he had a 360 windmill dunk that was NBA Dunk Contest Dominique Wilkins quality. He's super athletic and can get up and down the court and is a really good perimeter defender. I know he took an unofficial to TU last year along with Eric Madrid and one other player.

I believe Union also has 2 players from the football team who will join the basketball team once the season is over. Isaiah Covington and Jino Boyd have been part of the basketball team. Since Jino is a D1 football recruit he may elect to sit out, it was hard to tell since they were at the event but not allowed to participate per OSSAA rules which don't allow participation in multiple sports at the same time.

I've not seen any other teams so I can't give a full context to how the season will play out. BTW is now 5A and I believe Bishop Kelley is bumped to 6A for this season. While BK is a decent team, I don't think they will threaten the top 6A teams. I expect BA to be really good again this season along with Edmond Memorial.

How About This Defense

Watching TU's too-often outmatched defense this past season got me thinking about some of the defensive greats we've had over the years. So I decided to compile an all-time TU defensive team by position, going back to 1963, the year I started following TU football. These selections are all guys I've seen play, and who I remember as being awfully good.

DT: Willie Townes, Kevin Lilly
DE: Dennis Byrd, Tracy Scroggins
OLB: Zaven Collins, Barry Minter
MLB: Chris Chamberlain, Mike Bryan
Corner: Cornell Webster, Nate Harris
Safety: (tie) Jeff Jordan, Ralph McGill

I'd like to hear folks' thoughts. Disagreements?

Hurricane Impact

Now that the season is over, and we are going to be seeing a lot of activity in the portal, this is the time to make a commitment to help this program.

You want a higher level of player? Then step up. Give to the Hurricane Impact fund. Either designate a football donation, or let them decide where it is best to give. No, I am not affiliated with them, but I am as passionate about my team as the rest of you. It's time to make a tangible impact on our football program.

Coaches Show Comments

For those of us out of town or unable to listen to the shows any interesting comments?
- Did Wilson discuss anything about the recruiting plans/needs or what they learned as a staff from this year?
- Did Konkle comment on Archie not playing at the end of UALR?
- Did Nelp talk about the teams comeback wins vs. UAPB and Clemson, the challenges of playing MSU?
Thanks for any feedback.

On to ORU

I got our seats online tonight
Not many available near center although anything in the lower bowl is a great seat.

I expect a very close and exciting game and hope our fans show up. Years ago TU bought tickets for around 50 students behind the basket.

Last year at Reynolds with Abmas, ORU bought an entire endzone section for their students. I thought their cheering made a difference in what started as a close game .

A satiric cheer would be Go Horns Go.
