Game Thoughts UAB

TU had the effort to contend with UAB tonight but could not contain a potential NBA first rounder Yaxel Lendeborg who had 28 points and 13 rebounds and 6 assists and no turnovers. Clearly the best player in the AAC. TU rebounded very well but lost all chance by opening the second half with 0-7 from the free throw line. A lot of good effort extended but UAB clearly the better team and would win 10-10 times we play them. Apparently they have mostly seniors and I can't find a portal transfer on their roster. They must have wagon loads of NIL money to keep those players there.

Most say Kennedy is by far the best coach in the American and his continual shifting of defenses and set plays were superb. Our defense was good but not to that level. Amadi was sick but otherwise at full strength.

Game Thoughts Wichita State

Probably TU's best overall game of the year. Over 50% shooting and made 13 threes. Effort was A+ led by Dwon Odom missing a triple double by only one rebound. Eric Coley holds the only one in TU history. Jared Garcia and Keaston Willis were superb on the threes. If TU plays like this they could play with most of the AAC. Memphis today looked unbeatable but who knows? It was a huge game for Konkol as well as he needed a big win.

China winning the AI race with less overhead cost and more innovation.

Looks like a bunch of young Chinese university kids beat the socks off of USA's best silicon valley companies including OpenAI, Meta, and X. We've been pouring money into this area of research and were outclassed where necessity breeds opportunity. This is concerning and has political implications if the US can't get its act together in terms of innovation.

To put more emphasis on it... this wasn't just a case of intellectual property theft... they really showed ingenuity in advancing farther, faster, and cheaper than we have been able to.

🏈 Recruiting Tulsa adds more talent from the transfer portal

This past weekend, Tulsa football coaches added to their haul from the transfer portal after another round of visits. TU has now picked up 18 players from the portal so far, including several from Power 4 schools.

The first 100 days

If the first hundred days of a new presidency are critical to setting priorities and getting key issues addressed. It is informative to look at what Trump is initially focusing on. While he stated what he would do, seeing how he did it offered even more information. For example, he did say he would pardon the patriots who tried to overthrow the government on Jan 6, but few thought he would pardon everyone, including those who had assaulted police. So what does that tell us that we didn't already know? A clear statement that no matter what you do, as long as you do what Trump wants, he will protect you. The perfect message is you want members of you administration to ignore the law, and just do as you say.

With that established, firing inspector generals in almost all the government departments reinforces the message. Curiously many of those IGs were hired by Trump's previous time in office, but four years of adherence to the law under the Biden administration means a new set is required.

While some of Trumps EOs are unconstitutional and illegal, it will take time to reverse them. Meanwhile Trump' has sent the message to his administration to not worry about breaking the law, he'll pardon you no matter what. And by the way with the IG's gone, illegal actions may not come to light anyway.

Will our institutions withstand this approach? We'll find out.

Yanks in the UK & Europe

Our new MNT coach might cast an eye on the English Championship season which started yesterday. A couple of strikers always out of favor with Burrhalter are off to rousing starts. Haji Wright scores a brace including the game winner for Coventry City and Josh Sargent misses 4 good chances in the 1st half, but scores & gets an assist in the 2nd vs Blackburn Rovers this morning.

I have no doubt that Pochettino can identify the best players and will use them. These 2 might be there at the end.

📝 Larry Lewis Recap: Tulsa takes down Wichita State, 84-77

With Jared Garcia, Dwon Odom, and Keaston Willis on track, the archrival Shockers didn’t stand a chance against the Golden Hurricane.

Garcia continued to improve and show he is back, scoring 22 points and scorching the net with 5 of 6 on three-pointers. And Odom rarely missed, going 8 of 10 from the field - almost getting a triple-double with 17 points, 10 assists, 9 rebounds, along with 3 blocked shots.

The result was Tulsa soundly defeating Wichita State 84-77 in front of 3,427 fans at the Reynolds Center on Sunday afternoon in a game that was nowhere near as close as the final score would indicate.
