Pro Ball aside for the offseason.

I was really wanting to see #7 seed play-in and #8 seed play-in go at it in the championship. Was my hopes from the start of the playoffs. Probably Lebron's last chance at another title. Laker's are falling on their a$$ though. Miami seems to be keeping up their end. Can't see Boston coming back at this point.(or the Lakers for that matter)

The playoffs are the only time I watch pro ball any more. Not since Jordan, have I been interested in the regular season.

Memorial Day-2023

The day we remember loved ones and honor those fallen in battle for our country. I am fortunate that my grandfather survived in France during WW1 and that my father survived Pearl Harbor (12/07/1941) and WW2 fighting on Destroyers in the Pacific for the duration.

I'm certain there are those on here who have lost ancestors in war. It's a special day for you & certainly for me.

Worst Call Ever

Not much happening on the board so I decided to try to have a little fun with something different. This is a contest to post the worst call ever. It can made by an official in any sport. I am starting it off with my own entry:

Marc Gasol has possession of the ball and is standing stationary when Chris Paul runs into him. Gasol is called for a blocking foul. It's a shame that this clip doesn't have sound. I would love to hear the crowd reaction.

If someone posts an entry that I feel is better than mine then I will make a modest custom donation to the TU Basketball NIL fund. I am the sole judge and I am somewhat biased. I really think that my entry is strong. However, I will give you my honest opinion and I will give you the tie breaker, if one should exist, if your entry features a call involving a TU player, either current or former. I'll leave it open through the end of May. That will give me time to save up some money.

Bob Breitenstein RIP

Just ran across this:

TULSA, Okla. ––
The University of Tulsa Athletic Hall of Famer and football star Bob Breitenstein died Monday, March 13, at the age of 79. Breitenstein played three seasons (1962-64) on the Hurricane varsity football team before a career as an NFL offensive lineman.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 8, at 2:00 p.m. at the Southwood Colonial Chapel (3612 East 91st Street). The service will be held on what would have been his 80th birthday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made to the Tulsa Football Academic Enhancement Fund at The University of Tulsa in honor of Bob Breitenstein by clicking http://bit.ly/40hxWLb . Checks can be sent to Tulsa Athletics, 800 South Tucker Drive, Tulsa, OK 74104, and made payable to: Tulsa Athletics – In Honor of Bob Breitenstein, or call the Golden Hurricane Champions Fund office at 918-631-3347.

Breitenstein came to Tulsa in 1961 from Farmington High School in New Mexico. He was an All-Missouri Valley Conference and honorable mention All-America selection in 1964, after helping pave the way for the nation's leading total offensive unit (461.8 ypg) and top scoring team (38.4 ppg).

In 1965, Breitenstein was drafted by the NFL's Washington Redskins with the 21st overall pick and was also drafted with the 33rd pick in the AFL draft by the Denver Broncos. He signed with the Broncos and played in 14 games with four starts his rookie season. In his six professional years, Breitenstein also played with the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons. He played in a total of 58 NFL games and had 40 starts, as his career was cut short due to injury.

Breitenstein appeared in the movie Brian's Song, when the director used actual game footage, showing him help carry the great Bears' running back Gale Sayers off the field following an injury.

Breitenstein was inducted into The University of Tulsa Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994 and also received induction into the Farmington (NM) High School Hall of Fame in 1991.

🏈 Recruiting TU Football adds grad transfers to roster

TU has signed three grad transfers to financial aid agreements: OSU defensive end Ben Kopenski (who I mentioned previously), FIU offensive lineman Rey Burnett and Nevada deep-snapper Austin Ortega. Also, Demarco Jones of OSU is official after completing his undergraduate degree.

Kopenski and Ortega have one year to play, while Burnett and Jones have two years remaining.

KOPENSKI: During his last two seasons at Oklahoma State, recorded 17 total tackles, six tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. In 2022, he had 14 tackles, four TFL's, 3.5 sacks and eight QB hurries.

BURNETT (6-5, 290): Originally from Edmond (OK) Santa Fe High School, he spent the past two years at Florida International. Before that, he played nine games in 2019 at Houston Baptist before red-shirting a year later. He appeared in six games and made a pair of starts on the offensive line at FIU in 2021.

ORTEGA: Originally from San Antonio (TX) Regan High School, he earned four letters as Nevada's deep-snapper. He handled all long-snapping duties for the Wolfpack in all 25 games over the last two seasons.

Sources: Kevin Wilson bringing highly regarded Ohio State staffer to run Tulsa defense

Matt Guerrieri had a long run at Duke, reunited in 2022 at Ohio State with Jim Knowles

Back as a head coach for the first time in six years, Kevin Wilson is working to assemble a strong first staff at Tulsa, and he's got his defensive coordinator in a key move.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Matt Guerrieri has agreed to become Wilson's first defensive coordinator for the Golden Hurricane.

It's a quick return to play-calling duties for Guerrieri, who spent the 2022 season as a senior defensive analyst for Jim Knowles's Ohio State defense after Guerrieri's final four years at Duke saw him as the Blue Devils' co-defensive coordinator.

An Ohio native who starred in college at Football Championship Subdivision program Davidson, Guerrieri turned in elite work at Duke, where he was an AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year finalist for his work with the Blue Devils' defense in 2020.

Wilson and Guerrieri were colleagues the past year at Ohio State, and sources told FootballScoop that Guerrieri had made an immediate impression on Wilson -- and the entire Buckeyes' staff.

Tulsa parted with Philip Montgomery following a 5-7 2022 season. Wilson previously served as head coach six seasons at Indiana University, where Wilson gradually carved a competitive program that made back-to-back
postseason appearances in Wilson's final two seasons at the helm.

Wilson is set to be greeted with a daunting non-conference schedule in 2023; the Golden Hurricane open with FCS-program Arkansas-Pine Bluff but have scheduled road games at Oklahoma, Washington and Northern Illinois all within the season's first month.

USMNT U20s

Playing well so far. Up 1-0 on Qatar which should get them through to knockout stage. Qatari GK just made an absolutely brilliant save on a PK which was struck and placed well and then stopped a 1 v 1 a few moments later.

I'm thinking we need to be paying more attention to this group of kids. There are some really special players

15. Tulsa Golden Hurricanes

There are a number of non-power conference programs that I could’ve included but one that really stood out is the work that head coach Erik Konkol has done so far at Tulsa. After winning just five games this past season, the roster has added a ton of talent, including four D-I transfers.

Cobe Williams reunites with Konkol after leaving Louisiana Tech, coming off a senior year of leading the team with 18.9 ppg and 4.1 apg. The 5’11 guard had 8+ points in every game and went for 20+ points in 11 of 23 games total. He’ll be paired in the backcourt with Keaston Willis, a four-year double-digit scorer also from La Tech, averaging 12.4 ppg last season on 38% shooting from deep.

The Hurricanes also are taking a couple of flyers on some power conference transfers. Chauncey Gipson is a 6’5 guard transfer from Clemson after redshirting, while also adding former top-100 prospect Isaiah Barnes, who played two seasons of limited minutes at Michigan.

If either one of them breaks out, that’s a lot of talent at Tulsa as they look to rebound as a program. With Houston and others gone, the path to moving up the AAC ladder is easier. It’ll depend on how the former La Tech guards do at the next level.
