A personal attack is a poor coverup for being dead wrong on the facts. People who don't get vaccinated are public health risks, as some are symptom free carriers and homes for mutations. Maybe they are ok, but the people they go on to infect are endangered and continue the spread.
In countries that did much better than the US, the consistent theme is leadership that took the virus seriously from beginning and implemented consistent public health measures. Examples of liberal democracies and US allies that did so include
New Zealand, Australia, S. Korea, Taiwan, Israel, Japan and Iceland.
That some of these countries are in Asia is a result of their experience with SARS which prepared them for dealing with a pandemic. Unfortunately Bolton and Trump dismantled the White House pandemic response team prior to Covid and opposed implementing basic public health measures consistently. Hundreds of thousands of Americans died who did not need to.
In sum, the US response in 2020 was erratic, politicized, and its detrimental effects continue.
