Regardless of it meaning anything for our beloved Hurricane, the data is always interesting. Thanks for keeping your skills up until Konkol gets this thing turned around.

Queens beat FGCU and will face Kennesaw St. tomorrow
Bellarmine beat North Florida and will face Liberty tomorrow

What will be interesting is which # 1 NCAA seed will play the 8-9 winner with UNC being the #9 seed this year but still one of the favorites to win it all. UNC did something similar in TU's elite 8 run.

Davis had 3,604 points coming into the game today. He is now at 38 points with 3 min remaining. Since he will play at least one more game he is assuredly going to break the record

Mercy won 81-68. Davis is now at 3,642 points. If he scored 28 or more in the next game he will break the record

Let's make sure this record has an *** by his name. It's a great accomplishment for sure and he is a tremendous scorer, but he played 5 seasons to Maravich's 3 (FR weren't eligible to play.) Davis has played in 143 games to date, Maravich played in 83. Want to do an apples to apples comparison, look at the career avg. points per game. Maravich is at 44, Davis is a tick about 25. 25 ppg over 5 years and 143 games is nothing to sneeze at but I don't think anyone is really going to question who the best scorer in collegiate history is. That's why I like Brennan Marion's current NCAA record for avg. yards per catch in a season. It's not like he had 2 catches, 1 for 60 and 1 for 2. He had 39 catches that year. His career YPC is pretty impressive too at 28.7

If there is an Asterisk by anyone's name, it would be Maravich stating what he accomplished in 3 years. Unless he goes out with a leg injury, he will break the record and it will be talked about and scrutinized just like we have been doing on here. also I was wrong. he will break it at his 26th point.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter. Is there a stat correction for the points Maravich would have scored if there had been a 3 pt line when he played? That'd be interesting to see where he would have ended up.

It would have been interesting. Even when they first introduced it a lot of players were not using it like they do today. It it would be interesting

Looks like I'll be firing up my ESPN+ at work. Always loved this week.
BTW, the MVC Tournament holds a special place in my heart. Back in 1996 I won a contest and got to participate in a shooting competition at the convention center at halftime of a TU game...against 3 others. Winner won a trip to the MVC tournament and a chance to shoot for a million dollars. It was sponsored by Subway and Pepsi. The winner from Tulsa would shoot against the winners of the other 8 MVC schools. So the contest at TU consisted of shooting FTs for 30 seconds followed by 3-pointers for 30 seconds. I hit something like 8 FTs and 5 3 pts and won the Tulsa competition. So in previous years to win the million dollars you had to hit a half court shot during halftime of one of the MVC semi's. So I practiced a lot of half court shots to the point where I could hit 4 of 10 pretty consistently. 3 days before the trip, a contest coordinator calls and tells me what the contest will look like. Each of the 9 contestants would have a shot at a 3 pointer...anyone who hit the 3 pointer would then qualify to take the million dollar shot which was from....THE OPPOSITE FOUL LINE. So I spent probably 20 hours in Mabee Gym the next couple of days practicing my baseball throw from the opposite foul line (at this point I had practiced so much 3 point shooting I was hitting something like 65% from the top of the key). Evening before I leave I hit 2 of 3 from the opposite foul line and just said I'm done practicing because it's pretty much never getting better than that.

I shot during halftime of the Bradley-Missouri State (then SMSU) semi final....shook Charley Steiner's hands on the way out (Bradley alum). I was the only person of 9 to hit the 3 pt shot in order to take the 3/4 court shot. 3/4 court shot wasn't even close...think I blacked out in there. Shooting for an actual million dollars in front of about 12k fans is way different than heaving shots towards a basket in an empty Mabee Gym. I got a free trip and tickets to the tournament and a free stay in StL...but all I got for actually hitting the 3 pt shot in the contest was a Pepsi t-shirt 😂 So that's the reason I still tune in to a lot of the MVC games when I can.

This happened at TU once
I remember that. Like I said, glad it didn't happen to us, this year. The poeticness of it happening to Louisville when they are extremely bad is not something that would have looked good on us. (or Louisville for that matter)

I shot free throws at half time against another competitor at the TU Bradley MVC Championship game. I shot like Anthony Price with a Deer in the Headlights shot and got beat. It was for SW Air tickets to anywhere.

:30 s to go, youngstown up by 4 mercy ball still 6 away with 4 fouls

When I was in school, I got my ticket drawn 3 times for the $100 scholarship shootout. (the ticket taker was a family friend).

I hit it all 3 times, and even went 2 for 2 one night to win a hundred for the other shooter.

A Pepsi shirt would have been nice though.
