Full Schedule is below

AND ONE

It is February people and with that means that we have a short month and are on the backside of the schedule. These wins and losses are about to start mattering for seeding in the tournament in March. As I posted previously with the American going to 14 teams we now have an extra day of tournament. They used to start on Thursday after the last games were played the Sunday previous, now there are two games on Wednesday. We just need to stay out of the bottom 4 to not play on Wednesday and in the top 4 to wait to play until Friday.

GO TU!!!

CBS is slobbering all over themselves about the Memphis talent but the scoreboard at half is not flattering for that awesome talent. They will probably win this with one of their instant semester transfers if they get enough of them.

That was disappointing. I would have loved to see the Tigers lose two straight home games to the bottom 2 teams in the conference. The Shockers gave them a scare though.

Memphis hasn’t looked good against anyone in the conference except for one game at Wichita State and they are building like we are. They won the game but this wasn’t a good look for them

In the second half

Oklahoma State is up on Kansas State 32-29 with 19 minutes remaining

Charlotte and ECU tied at 31 with 17 min remaining

Missouri state up on Belmont 60-47 with 13 remaining

Memphis had a Wichita St sandwich. Wichita St in last place got beat both home & away, and Memphis lost to everybody in between. Poor Wichita St.

The Wichita kid who missed two consecutive layups and missed the last free throw basically lost the game. Memphis would have been down 13 if he makes either I think. And why not foul someone other than Jones or Quinnerly and make the bad free throw shooters beat you at the end with a one and one with 12 seconds to go when you are a huge underdog and at least have a chance to tie or win?

South Florida is gonna get brought down a notch pretty quickly. North Texas & Charlotte are probably winners in the next two games. Just like North Texas got dropped from the top recently, so will USF.

Looking at our upcoming schedule it’s a lot tougher than we originally thought it would be. We’re missing home games against some of the bottom 6 due to the 14 team conference.

Oklahoma state over Kansas State 75-72
Charlotte over ECU 67-52
Missouri State over Belmont 87-80
Rice over UTSA 80-76

South Carolina state is up on Morgan state 41-33 at half

Little Rock up on Eastern Illinois 34-24 starting second half

Central Arkansas up on Stetson 33-31 with 18 min remaining in the game

North Texas up 31-26 at half. I expect N Texas to close this one out at home in the 2nd.

Yesterday was rough man but that is why they are a ranked team. We have a young team that is still working it out but they must get better with the ball handling and lazy passes. Our turnover rate wasn’t bad but when you are going against a top 25 team you have to play at the top of your A game.

The TU Women are in action this afternoon taking on North Texas at the Reynolds Center. Go out and support the women.

Today’s games

Temple at Tulane
UAB at SMU

So, if you have not heard already New Mexico State Forward Robert Carpenter decked Liberty Flames Shiloh Robinson in the early minutes of their game. Watching the video it was egregious. Carpenter was issued a Flagrant 2 and kicked out of the game. New Mexico State still won the game in overtime. NCAA rules state that he has to serve a 1 game suspension but NMSU said that his actions “do not align” with the school standards and have suspended him indefinitely. Good for the school because there is no place for that garbage.

Wow, just looked up that punch and NMSU did the right thing, you just can’t have that kind of thing in college sports.
I definitely think NMSU did the right thing, especially with their ongoing problems with discipline and the shooting. But the player he punched put a hand hard in his face, right before he punched him, maybe intentionally. Did they call that foul?

I’m sure they didn’t as that hand didn’t knock the guy to the ground

It looked to me like they should have at least called a regular foul against the player that got put down, and a flagrant 2 against the guy from NMSU. That foul shouldn"t be ecxused because of the flagrant.

But as we saw during our game since that foul wasn’t called they can’t call a late common foul they would have to call it a flagrant and those two fouls do not equal each other

Yeah, they would have to have called that foul during the game and give flagrant 2. But they could have called it when they called the flagrant and said that it was a slam bam thank you maam set of fouls and that it was a late whistle on the first foul and a concurrent whistle on the flagrant. They would have had to have called both fouls before the review though, right after the whistle. I'm sure they just missed that common foul unintentionally, until the review though.

SMU beat UAB 72-69
So to the board in general, who thinks UAB or N Texas will be the tougher match? I think it will be Yaxel Lendebourg and UAB. I see N Texas as being the easier shot at a win. Not because they are a win better in the standings, but because they are more dominant on the interior with Lendebourg. We will have problems matching up with them. They score more points, they get more rebounds in general, and get more OR as well.

I say North Texas will be tougher. They have a lot of grit and they play tough.

Right now we’re looking like a one bid conference if FAU wins the conference tournament. Assuming they will lose at least one more game I think Memphis is too low in the NET despite the gaudy Q1/Q2 record and while SMU is in the borderline NET area for an at-large they have a dismal Q1/Q2 record.

Have to win those OOC games... or win nearly all conference games. Somehow the Mountain West has discovered the formula.

I believe they could have gone back and assessed double personal fouls via replay and then assessed the 2nd as a F2.

A common foul cannot be called using replay. Replay can only be used in instances like this to determine whether a flagrant foul has been committed.
