GAMEDAY!!

TU Men are hosting the SMOOOO at home today. The two bottom teams in the conference going back at it. Tulsa got rode out of the gym in Dallas. Hopefully we see the growth and we can run them out of our gym.

Women won a road game at Temple and because it was so close at the end during a bad second half the women dropped a spot in the NET Rankings. Memphis, Tulane and South Florida are the only teams ahead of the women in the NET. The women play Tulane Saturday and then host USF on Wednesday. This is an important week for the women.

Todays games

Two other American games today and Bedlam tonight when Oklahoma travels to Stoolwater.

And One

Antoine Davis of Detroit Mercy set the NCAA record for 3 pointers, hitting 11 3 pointers in a game to get him to 513 for a career eclipsing the 509 set by Fletcher Magee of Wofford. Davis was 5-14 against Tulsa from 3 but was the second highest scorer in that game at 23 points behind Gerald Liddell with 27 points.

Isaiah Jacobs

I saw on Twitter that TU has offered Isaiah Jacobs from Owasso. He's the younger brother of former Alabama RB and current La Vegas Raider Josh Jacobs, right? Seems we are the first to offer and he called TU his "CITY Tulsa University".

What class is he? Usually their Twitter profiles have this listing...his does not.

NIL

I’m not sure how we can compete with this.

South Carolina women’s basketball players to each receive $25,000

Team-wide NIL deals are not new in college athletics. Level 13 Agency committed $25,000 per player to Texas Tech earlier this summer. SMU’s Boulevard Collective announced in August plans to pay players on both the football and basketball teams $36,000 a year — a total payout of $3.5 million annually — for NIL activity.

And this week, South Carolina‘s women’s basketball team was given a similar opportunity. Thanks to former state legislator and current CNN political analyst Bakari Sellers and a group of other prominent donors, each member of the Gamecocks team will be provided the opportunity to earn an average of $25,000 or more in NIL deals — roughly $325,000 total.

Garnet Trust, the South Carolina-focused NIL collective, will help manage the deliverables with NOCAP Sports assisting in contracts and payments. Each member of the team will be expected to execute a variety of deliverables. Community appearances, social media posts and sponsored interviews will be on the list.

This deal marks the one of the first times a collective has worked closely with a national brand to secure NIL partnerships for its athletes. The high-protein chocolate milk brand Slate Milk will be featured in promotions.

NOCAP Sports will also be in talks with national brands throughout the year discussing more potential NIL opportunities for the team. Wednesday’s announcement at South Carolina is a sign of what it will take for the top 25 women’s basketball programs in the country to compete for national championships.

📝 Larry Lewis Recap: Tulsa suffers another tough loss, falling to SMU in overtime

You know your luck is going bad when a banked three-pointer after terrific defense spells your doom. But that is the way the season has gone for Tulsa in 2022-2023. Even when there are heroics and an amazing comeback, in the end, another loss.

Bryant Selebangue was terrific for Tulsa, scoring 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, including a dramatic tip-in with 0.6 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. But that led to still more disappointment for a team that won't give up, as the Golden Hurricane fell 79-76 to SMU Wednesday night in front of 3,047 fans at the Reynolds Center.

Zaven Collins

Although Arizona lost Sunday to the Seahawks 19-9, Collins was the Cardinals standout on defense. He had 9 total tackles, 5 solo and 4 assisted. He had 2 sacks for 18 yards and 1 pass deflection.

His 9 tackles were the most on his team and he had 5 more yards in losses than the rest of his team combined. In his 2nd year, he’s beginning to understand what’s expected of him and appears to be positioning himself as the leader of their defense.

I sure wish we had him back at Tulsa this year, and the year after and ……

Game thoughts SMU

I don’t know, man.

II has been right about the point guard situation. Too many turnovers.

With transfer rules being what they are, I am very concerned with the team we put on the court. This is unbearable. Can the basketball minds tell me I’m missing something?

I remember being mad about Self the first year. There were a lot of issues with that team. It wasn’t anywhere close to this pathetic. I realize that team had Coley, Ruffin, Hill, and Thompson, but I bet if you went back you could see something building,

I can’t tell you what is good here other than promotions and half time entertainment. And I’m not sure where that money is coming from.
