Yeah, that's what I expect. Based on his stats, he was more of a 3 pt specialist for FDU, more than half his baskets were 3pt. Other than 3 pt %, his stats were pretty pedestrian at FDU. I haven't watched his game at all, just looking at stats, but assuming some regression against better competition, his stats don't seem to suggest a lot of other areas of major contribution beyond a role player. His 2 pt FG % was high, maybe he's a good shooter if he gets turned loose closer to the basket?

I also always worry a bit about the guy who was the best player on a bad team. What will he do when he has better guys around him?

Somebody suggested Garcia would never be any more than a role player when he committed last year, and that he wouldn't ever get more than 15 min a game or something . We'll see.

This brings up another question, why have our recent coaches been unwilling to have 2 big men in at the same time? We would have never seen Magnay and Igbanu playing together. I would like to see two big men in at a time on occasion so one can alter shots and the other rebound.

Maybe I'm totally wrong but I feel like we've had a run of coaches in both BB and FB that are more focused on playing their way than winning. I'm thinking dougie's tantrum zone Ds or pretty much ever offensive play under Monty and Frank and BB. I get the sense that Konkol might be more willing to think outside the box if it could bring some wins with the team we have.

Agree. I would expect him to be a major contributor. Top 7 in the rotation. Look at his stats against Illinois. The kid can play.

Adjusting on a 40 minute basis, the FDU guy shot more and scored more than Carlous and was a way better FT shooter (who isn't) and 3PT shooter but otherwise their stats are very similar. Carlous averaged a little more RB and a little better 2PT%, FDU guy a little more assists but his assists weren't meaningful, that wasn't his game. Blocks are basically the same. The FDU guy can shoot FTs and 3PTs, otherwise their stats would be hard to tell apart.

Ultimately, it’s viewed as an antiquated style of play. It’s like asking Coach Wilson why he doesnt run more wishbone.

Not sure that has much to do with what I said. The concept isn’t about raising more money to compete with your peers. It’s about accepting the limitations that an unfair game presents to your organization, and using outside the box thinking rather than traditional talent evaluation to put together a team that can compete with organizations who have much larger bankrolls.

I thought you were only referring to playing by paying to compete with rivals.

Actually using the concept of moneyball doesn't work much better though. If the team performs well then the other teams will still come cherry pick the stars, simply based on the team doing well. They won't leave them alone because we picked them due to moneyball reasons. I don't think moneyball selections every year will leave us less prone to bad selections. And the less players one has on the field, the less effective moneyball works IMO. When you have 5 players vs 9, moneyball becomes less effective.

Half of the top 25 transfers are from non-power 5 conferences and all but 3 are going to power 5 conferences. A case of the rich getting richer. This is not sustainable for any school except the big ultra rich.

Yeah, he needs to watch how the women's team ran the weave and then all of a sudden one of the weavers became a screen and another became a back door cut. Konkol's weave had no purpose to it. Wasn't designed to get a specific person the ball, wasn't designed to run a defender off and gain a mismatch, wasn't designed to confuse via movement.

If Shea Seals doesn't get all those fouls against Clemson, If David Brown doesn't get hurt in 1981, If Kurtz and Coley went to OSU who recruited them both, If we had hired Billy Gillispie instead of Buzz Peterson, on and on..
