College Basketball-General

Watching the Colorado/Washington game while the Cotton Bowl is at half. Washington has this dude in the middle that looks like the love child of Kurt Rambis and 70s Trailblazer Bill Walton (the one with the hippie beard). When I first saw him I instantly thought Rambis. Washington also has a PG who , if I were an opponent's fans, I'd start a Webster chant.

Pac ??

I have my reservations, mostly because of kickoff times, but im curious to hear everyone's thoughts knowing what we know now. If WSU and OSU Somehow acquired financials for the PAC to rebuild with the best thats left from the G5, would you be excited or concerned if Tulsa expressed interest?

📝 Larry Lewis Matt Reed adds toughness in the paint for Tulsa

Matt Reed has already done something that has rarely been done at TU. As a true freshman, he began the season as the starting center for the Golden Hurricane. And Reed was not just starting. He was showing he can be a pretty good player. The 6-foot-10, 245-pounder from I-School Academy in Lewisville, Texas, has started 6 off 11 games so far this season. He is sharing time with 7-foot sophomore St. John's transfer Mohamed Keita at the 5 position.

GAMES OF INTEREST (12.22.23 - 12.28.23) NEW MEXICO STATE

ITS GAMEDAY!!!! Tulsa hosts New Mexico State this evening at the Reynolds Center. This is the Last non-conference game that goes on the NET. The last NonCon we have will be against SWOSU (Nevadanatural’s alma mater). Wichita State, Temple and UTSA took big hits in the NET yesterday. They are nothing compared to the shellacking that Little Rock took in the net dropping 46 spots. They are safely sitting as a Q4 loss for us until they can get back to a 240 or higher on the NET. The Big winner yesterday was Incarnate Word rising 30 Spots.

Today’s games

Charlotte is currently at half time against Division 3 school in Greensboro College. Charlotte is up 46-29 at half and the second half is starting.
George Mason Comes to Tulane. This should be a really good game.
SMU travels to Murray State who lost to Yooler
Temple faces Old Dominion in the consolation bracket of the Diamond Head Classic

AND ONE

Non-Conference wraps up a week from Saturday when we play SWOSU. We have New Mexico State tonight and they are a Q4 right now. Then we start 2024 with the conference slate. Currently this is the Quad type each Conference game is as of right now. Tulsa right now is a Q3 game for them on the road and a Q4 at home. So, we are considered a bad loss now.

Interest in QB transfer

Hey all, Sean Williams here, do a little bit of everything at Rivals.com

Was told Tulsa has offered Western Kentucky transfer quarterback Caden Veltkamp. This connection comes by way of Tulsa OC/QB Steve Spurrier, Jr., who held the same position at WKU during the 2017 season and helped coached Mike White, who is a backup QB for the Dolphins. Spurrier, Jr.'s son, Gavin, was the quarterback at South Warren (Ky.) HS that seasons, which is the same HS Veltkamp attended. So, he's got a good relationship and connection with South Warren's head coach.

Veltkamp is coming off one of the best bowl performances of the year so far, going 40-of-52 for 384 yards and five touchdowns. He came in the game when WKU was down 21-0 to Old Dominion and led them to a miraculous comeback.

He definitely made the most of his opportunity. Will be interesting to see if his situation changes with WKU and their staff based on his bowl performance, but for now, he remains in the transfer portal.

Have also heard TCU and Southern Miss have also expressed interest as well.

GJ Kinne

In his first season with Texas State, GJ Kinne guides them to an 8-5 record and a 45-21 win over Rice (who Tulsa lost to this year) on a team primarily comprised of transfers.

Should’ve been the hire for Tulsa but our administration screwed it up. Let’s hope next hiring cycle he even considers us but imagine he will be coaching in a power conference in two years.

Once again, a miss from our athletic department. Have heard this story too many times.

Important Questions for 2024

Thinking ahead to the new year and scouring this board topics and comments I began to ponder key questions. Perhaps there are more but any thoughts are appreciated:
- Has Kiefer become America’s team?
- Are the Royals really winning more Championships?
- What really is the best BBQ in Tulsa?
- What really is the best CFS in Tulsa?
- Has anyone ever had their opinion changed reading the Crossfire page?
- Will TU build an IPF?
- Will TU build a parking deck or improve parking?
- Will TU bring back baseball?
- Will TU move to the fill in the blank conference?
- Will the back up QB always be the favorite of most TU fans
- Can TU fans go the entire year without mentioning a former coach whom they disliked and blame for all current problems?
- Can TU fans go an entire year without mentioning a former administrator or President whom they disliked and blame for all current problems?
- Will most fans support a new coach beyond their first game?
- Will our new mascot last more than five years?
- Bonus question to ponder: how does the fly land on the ceiling? Does it fly upside down and then land or does it fly normal and flip at the last minute?

📝 Larry Lewis Game Recap -- Tulsa outlasts NMSU, 65-59

It was a fitting throwback to the Nolan Richardson days for Tulsa to have an exciting, gut-wrenching game against former Missouri Valley Conference rival New Mexico State. As in the old days in the early 1980's, Tulsa found a way to prevail in a game that could easily have gone south. P.J. Haggerty scored a game-high 23 points to lead Tulsa to a 65-59 victory over New Mexico State Friday night in front of a crowd of 2,871 at the Reynolds Center.

NMSU Game Thread

Did it get deleted? Just wanted to praise the defense for a great job and the rebounding the last 10 minutes by Reed and Garcia was tremendous. I can see why Cobe was one of the defensive players of the year at La Tech. He was great. Haggerty continues to be the go to guy when we need points on the board with drives and free throws. I thought he was going to get 30.

NMSU is better than their record. They were a tough physical team and happy to enjoy some atrocious calls tonight that went for NMSU. We may escape OOC play with a 9-3 record. Few thought that possible.

🏈 Recruiting Tulsa signs six in-state prospects during early signing period

Included in Tulsa’s early signing day haul were six of the top football prospects in Oklahoma. Kevin Wilson and his coaching staff beat out Power Five programs Michigan State, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Indiana, Washington State, Iowa State and Oregon State to secure in-state talent.
