USMNT WCQ Thread

Time to shift gears as we are less than a month away from US vs El Salvador on Sept. 2nd and US vs Canada in Nashville on Sept. 5th. It's extremely important that the US take all 6 points in these 2 games. I think if the US can garner results in its 7 home matches and at least 3 of the away matches, we should qualify. A quick start would be extremely positive.

Who do we expect to be named to the 26 (or so) for training camp and what do we expect the starting lineup to look like:

F: Pulisic, Reyna, Sargent, Hoppe, Zardes, maybe Arriola
MF: Weah, McKennie, Lletget (Berhalter favorite for whatever reason), Acosta, Adams, de la Fuente, Aaronson, Roldan. Musah
D: Brooks, McKenzie, Cannon, Dest, Ream, M. Robinson, A. Robinson, Yedlin
GK: Steffen, Horvath, Turner

Keep in mind I think there are a lot of interchangeable parts in the MF/F selection so don't get hung up on where I put them.

I think Ream is going to be name specifically because I think Berhalter wants to play a 3-5-2 and having Brooks, McKenzie/M. Robinson, and Ream as the 3 makes sense with Dest and A.Robinson/Cannon playing the outside of the 5. I think Adams and Acosta are vying for the 6.

I didn't put Walker Zimmerman on here because of his injury and I didn't put Aaron Long on here but maybe he should be over Ream.

My guess at who starts is:
GK: Steffen
D: M. Robinson- Brooks - Ream
MF: Cannon- Adams-McKennie-Pulisic- Dest
F: Sargent-Hoppe

Discuss. And there's plenty to discuss...

📝 Larry Lewis Selebangue making major impact at TU this season

Shooting nearly 70 percent from the field is insane. It just doesn't happen much. That's one reason Tulsa coaches were encouraged about the arrival of 6-foot-8 forward Bryant Selebangue this season. His 69.8 percent field goal percentage in juco last year showed he could finish, and he’s continued that stellar play for TU this season.

Ate at Oakhart BBQ Today

When I took my first bite of brisket I knew that these folks are serious. Tender, juicy, nice bark and peppery beef flavor. I got one pork rib as an add-on; it was equally awesome.

Their sauces are tasty, but I just dabbed my bread in them. The meats did not need sauce.

They had a reasonably good crowd but far from packed. Hope the word of mouth helps. This is excellent Q.

Game thoughts SMU

We are terrible. It defies reason. They had 25+ assists. They don’t get assists. Everything we are doing is bad.

The offense seems to be built around Griffin. That’s a mistake.

I’m in Dallas just hanging out and I’d rather stay at my hotel and work on billing. On a National holiday. That’s how bad we are.

I can’t describe how down I am on this right now. Other than the recruits, I see nothing improving any time soon.

Will Guerrieri Keep the 3-3-5

Sources: Kevin Wilson bringing highly regarded Ohio State staffer to run Tulsa defense, Will He Keep the 3-3-5

“Matt Guerrieri had a long run at Duke, reunited in 2022 at Ohio State with Jim Knowles

Back as a head coach for the first time in six years, Kevin Wilson is working to assemble a strong first staff at Tulsa, and he's got his defensive coordinator in a key move.”

Wilson Vs Konkol

Expectations:

I think a lot of us are giving Konkol a little bit of a pass this year and maybe even next to an extent. We know the crap show he inherited and the turn around will take a couple years. What he has shown already on the recruiting trail and the style of play he brings has a lot of us excited. Here is my question, Wilson coming in is inheriting a team that isn't where it should be but is miles ahead of where our basketball team was. Do we still give him a complete pass for next year as long as we see the pieces being put together, or is there a higher expectation because he is starting in a better off position? Also, higher expectation because there is more money on the line. What are your thoughts? How much of a pass are you willing to give, what is your minimum expectations? Are you evaluating by wins or more by style of play? How big is recruitment stars going to factor in (especially since Wilson said he probably wouldn't be going after 4 stars and above, not his exact words but more his sentiment)?

Game thoughts Houston

I will always love this team, this school, and this city. Right now, it’s time for some tough love. We just don’t have talent. With a few obvious exceptions, every roster spot needs to be open to a transfer in the spring. This may be our worst team in my life time.

I didn’t go. I have more important things to do that make me happy. I couldn’t get anyone to take my awesome seats. My friend and family are the top 1% of TU fans. I’m sorry. It used to be I could count the games I’d missed in this arena on one hand, even when I lived out of state. Ever since 2020, this has been brutal.
