I could only speculate regarding numbers, but tulsa was well represented.

There weren't significantly more people from Virginia Tech than Tulsa, probably 60/40 in terms of out of town fans. The locals supported the bowl well in their LSU attire. I was shocked to see so many people in the TU section with OU or OSU gear on.

They said good bye to the TU fans in the 3rd quarter as they headed out to lose their not so big stakes at the casinos in Bossier City. They amused me.

That might have been the same group of LSU fans I had the pleasure to meet. They were cordial enough for the most part but they were pretty drunk. After I talked to them a little bit they cheered more for Tulsa except for the one that bet $500 against us. I wish he would have stay around to see the end of the game.

The bowls are made for TV events. ESPN is so desperate for live programming their fees cover all the costs. The ticket sales are merely gravy.

I expect the seemingless endless escalation in what's being paid for programming to end. truff. Disney recently dumped around 200 ESPN employees. More cuts to come soon. ESPN has far out spent its revenues and Disney ain't paying for it anymore.

No, the only thing that keeps ESPN relevant is live programming, which they outsource the crewing of. They are eliminating many of the daytime fill shows that no one watches yet have high employee requirements. There will always be extremely high demand for any live programming whatsoever. No one is subscribing to ESPN for Stephen A. Smith, they're doing it for college football and the NFL.

Disney is going to chill for a while as The Star Wars acquisition will pay off in a big big way via ticket revenue and merchandising, promo ad rights continue to build. With a new movie due EVERY YEAR, Disney is going to do just fine.

Where ESPN has failed is its inability to remain objective and that has turned fans off. That and keeping the same tired on air talent. Sorry the NFL Sunday kickoff and wrap up shows with Berman and Jackson have just gotten tired. You hear the same cliche crap every week. They report false info and never recant or apologize when called on it. It's like watching Fox News and expecting accuracy.

Bowl attendance has now decreased for 6 staight years fwiw. Very few bowls are happy with attendance and some are seeing rapid declines. However, as long as ESPN pays for television rights I don't suspect we'll see a reduction in the number of bowls anytime soon.

As long as sponsors pay the advertising dollars, no change will be required in the bowl system.

But ESPN should push for more slots in a real playoff not decided in a committee room. There needs to be a system similar to the I-AA colleges and below. Do that and the money will flood in. It would be "January Madness". The thing that makes college basketball so popular is that the national championship is open to all the schools that play the game. That should happen and be dxxxxed with the status quo. IMHO

32 is a tad too many. 16 works. 11 conferences send their champion whether a conference championship game is involved or not plus 5 at large. That's 1 month of extra football. 15 bowl games could use those games as their game.

If they do go to a 16 game playoff, I think it might be advisable to go back to the 11 game regular season format.

FCS playoffs started Thanksgiving weekend, three weeks prior to FBS postseason. And will end after FBS does. Nearly six weeks of playoffs is ridiculous in college football. They also don't have bowls.

Not really going to justify much response to basketball. They play nearly 4x as many games as football players in the same amount of time.
