Best burger in Tulsa?

I've recently checked out all those joints, but my choice is still Judy.

After a 3 year "vacation," I returned to the Corps. It's just too hard to beat the Federal benefit system.

I always rated Bill's Jumbo high on the list based on reputation and my father's recommendation from ages ago. Finally, I went there last week and had the Bill's Special. EXCELLENT burger, as many of you know. Absolutely fantastic. And the clientele was fun to watch as well.

I made it to Linda-Mar Drive In #2 (their second location on Admiral). Holy cow...that double cheeseburger was amazing!! It's in the old Ike's Chili location across from Dino's Tire & Wheel. Fries were pretty good too, but the meat on their burgers is fantastic. As Jules Winfield said, "Now that's a tasty burger!"

I agree that most of the good burger joints are north of 41st (and west of the river in many cases). But there are a couple of places to get a good burger in South Tulsa that are not chains.

Mack's Grill at the Plaza on 81st & Lewis serves a great Angus burger and has a full bar as well. Karl's Famous Burgers at the strip mall east of 91st and Deleware is good and more of a traditional burger joint.

Other than that, it's pretty much a cultural wasteland, between ORU, the Creek Casino and El Wal Marto.
Most good everything is north 41st street. Seriously other than Lana Thai what the hell else is out there? Not much unless you have an affinity for big box stores and national chains. My girlfriend and I were out at 71st and Memorial this weekend. It seriously looks like complete hell out there.

I like Upper Crust Pizza on 91st. Good beers. Leena's on Memoria is good. India Palace. Other than that, I don't have reason to go south.

Upper crust is solid. I am surprised you would support an OKC based restaurant though.

I don't go often. But it is decent. Isn't it part of the endemic Hal Smith group?

They have a good Mexican burger at Goldie's.

Brownie's has a location on 71st just east of Sheridan (in the building once occupied by Boston Seafood). It's as good as the original location. Ron's is still good on occasion, but the original location at 15th and Harvard always tasted much better than any of the satellite locations. Fat Guys has some good burgers if you're looking for a unique combination of flavors. Tastee Freeze in BA still has the nice sheen on the buns when you order a burger and its loaded with flavor too.

Tulsa World put out a list about 20 years ago in its weekly Thursday SCENE section (before they moved it to Wednesday) and my wife (girlfriend at the time) went to 6 out of the 7 places they listed (Brownie's, Ron's, Weber's, Ty's, Goldies', and Lot A Burger). We didn't make it to Claude's.

For the record, I've been to an Inn N Out in California....I really don't see what the big deal about them is. Give me a Whataburger over Inn N Out any day.

Went to Hank's Hamburgers on Admiral today and took a photo for you guys....single with cheese...

This photo could only be better if there was a bit of mayo in the bottom of the tray next to the burger.

I hear there is a new place on 21st, just west of the river, called Okies. Anybody been?

Went to Okies today around 1:15. No more than 5 - 6 people, the 30 minutes I was there on a Friday.

Burger was good to very good. Not the best in Tulsa. I will go back again when in the area.

Very enthusiastic counter person regarding the quality of their food.

Ordered the burger, no fries. After my burger wad brought to me. The enthusiastic young counter person asked if I liked spicy sauce.
I said yes, he returned with two different spicy dipping sauces and probably a half order of fries. The fries and sauces were good.

Hope they have enough business to survive.

I tried Okie's. Very solid. Comparable to Fat Guy's without the ridiculous wait. I will go back.

Went by Okies today. Closed down, for lease sign in the window.

As far as West Tulsa goes, I don't care much for Arnold's but that Linda Mar is awesome. Great burgers and you get to watch Andy Griffith while you eat.

I actually enjoyed the burger at Arnold's, and the onion rings were pretty good. But I agree on Linda Mar being awesome. One of the best burgers I've had so far was the double-cheese at Linda Mar 2 on Admiral.

Had Karl's Famous on 81st & Delaware this past weekend and was not impressed.

Arnold's and Linda Mar are both fantastic. Bundy's in west Tulsa was better than both. I miss that place.

Went to JJ's Gourmet Burger today. Hadn't been in several years. Still good, definitely a different type of burger than Biil's Jumbo Burger, Linda Mar's, Hank's, etc. It's not a inexpensive burger at all. $20.00.before tax and tip for the standard burger setup with a small side and beverage. Also be prepared for a small ground ribeye burger, not a half pound regular ground beef burger. It's a unique place in many ways.

I've always thought about going, but it all seems so weird.

Smitty’s=Big chain burgers. Easily skipped.

Fat Guy’s is number one in my rankings at the moment. They just do it better. Don’t know why they moved it so far down the terminal in the airport.

The Lot-a-burger at West 23rd and SW Boulevard is sneaky good. The spicy burger is worth venturing over there for. Couple of young guys trying to do something unique.

I’ve lost interest in the burger at the Tavern. However, Bull in the Alley added an absolutely ridiculous burger that’s a must try.

The Stonehorse burger is kind of weird these days, too.

Goldie’s across from Utica Square closed and they tore the building down.

There’s a decent burger being made by the Palace Cafe guy on Friday nights at Philbrook (if you are a member) during the summer. $8.50.

Freddie’s at 8th and Lewis is still my most underrated. It’s just great. I went in there a few months back after a long day in court and got my ear talked off by some weirdo crazy lady. She kept hitting my arm. When I’m in lawyer mode I really don’t want to talk. The burger made up for it though.

High Society is just opened up in the old Quizno’s on Cherry Street. Owned by the Rib Crib people (so expect to see 300 of them in region with varying quality). THE Garrett Mills is in charge of the concept, so I won’t make any other disparaging Rib Crib comments. For now.

Other than that’s where the Hawaii players used to eat. So like Campbell’s sweaty shoes have been on the floor there.

We can agree here. Peanut Butter Bacon Burger Thai Style is a gift from the heavens.

So the Brownie's Gourmet Burger concept in Utica Sq. was pretty good. My sister from PA loved it.

Smitty's- chain and only adding some crazy toppings to what is essentially a SmashBurger doesn't quite do it for me. They do try some unique toppings.

I'll be shot for this but Red Robin had a Queso Fresco burger with a chimichurri aoili that was amazing. They grilled a slice of queso fresco which added a unique nutty quality to the creamy cheese part and then the chimichurri added a bit of a spicy kick while also being bright and refreshing. The fact that the beef was also cooked to perfection for me(medium) and was pretty juicy helped as well. It was a limited time menu option. I haven't found anything quite like it anywhere else, chain or not. I tried to recreate it and make my own chimichurri and it didn't quite turn out the same.

Almost any place that does the thick burgers can make them pretty well. What unique combination of flavors and toppings can you put on it ALONG with having a bun that can stand up to the toppings and juiciness. A joint gets an F if they can't have a bun that keeps the thing together while I am eating the burger
