Best burger in Tulsa?

I've never eaten at the Tavern...so I know nothing about that burger.

My favorites continue to be Linda-Mar, Arnold's, Freddie's (8th & Lewis), Claud's, Hank's and Bill's Jumbo. The Lot-A-Burger on 11th is pretty good too.

The Tavern is something of a landmark. It’s like the Brook without the cleaning material smell and higher end food. When they were remodeling it, Kaiser gave them an extra space to stay open. It’s that big of a deal.

Monday I ate at Okie Annie's, a really good burger place in Verdigris. The sign says old fashioned burgers and that's a good description. The onion rings are also very good. If in the area, check it out. Or if you're up for a little bit of a drive, it's 10 minutes from the Hardrock Casino on Route 66.

I tried Society. It’s good, but I don’t know why you’d go there in a town with Fat Guy’s, Ron’s, Claude’s, Weber’s, Bill’s, and Freddie’s. They serve beer, but I have beer at home. Fries were nothing special, which they needed to be to compete. Good burger, but Braum’s also has a good burger. Wouldn’t play for TU under Wojcik.

And The Brook doesn't taste nearly as good without eating it while "enjoying" the cleaning material smell and a stack of 50-500 napkins on your table.

Went to the Brook last week and they’d upped their game. They have a separate Mac and cheese menu now (chili Mac, yo) and extra cleaning supplies, but fewer napkins. At least I’m not getting E. coli the same way.

Agreed. Not sure why Ty’s is on the list. Couldn’t stand it as a student and still don’t like it. Goldie’s must be on there for the nostalgia factor.

Why have I never heard of Hatfield's? Any good?

Freddie's Hamburgers (8th & Lewis) is missing from the list.

Goldie's, Ty's and Billy's are all decent burgers, but in my opinion, they aren't on the level of the rest (Bill's, Claud's, Arnold's, Linda-Mar, Hank's, etc.)
Yeah, inquiring mind's want to know. I've heard their name before, but I never heard anything but their name. Has anybody eaten at Hatfield's before?

Hatfield’s was the neighborhood burger joint when I was a kid. Went there a lot with the baseball team after games. They’ve been in business at last 40 years or more at Admiral & Garnett.

Good back in the day, but I haven’t been there in ages. Good to hear they’re still at it.

I went to Hatfield’s about a year ago. (The sign is a hoot, it says “the real McCoy” under Hatfield’s). To be honest, it’s just decent. Wasn’t bad but there are 15 better places in the metro. I got the impression that it had a lot going on. They also had barbecue. Might be worth going back to but i never go to that part of town.

Freddie’s has to be on the list. It’s really one of the top three or four every year. Bill’s get up there. Then you have to include Fat Guy’s. Then Weber’s or Claud’s. Then Ron’s.

Ty’s sucks. Why is it still going? I know people who swear by it and they are wrong. Goldie’s is weird. It’s not bad but I feel like it’s past it’s time.

And now I’m hungry!

Anybody else been to Hamburger King in Shawnee? It's great. Been around since 1927, and you place your order with a phone at the booth.

I have only set foot in Shawnee once. If I never set foot in there again, I will have lost nothing in my life. That said. Nic's grill is the best burger in the state.

Looks like JJ’s isn’t long for this world. There’s a “property available soon” sign out front. JJ is almost 79, it turns out. Anyway, if you want a uniquely Tulsa experience, that’s it. I feel like every time I go in there the soft ending to Layla is playing for the entire duration of the meal.

Hahaha on the Layla

Had the hot hamburger yesterday, taking the long way back from Pawhuska. Doesn’t get it’s due. Next time TU interviews a president or athletic director, someone should take him to Murphy’s and see how he handles that. If he gets it, he’ll be just fine.

Gravy over all?

I tried Howdy Burger. Reminded me of a Braum’s Burger with much better ingredients. (That’s a compliment.) It deserves some more tries before being ranked, but it’s noteworthy. They make their own hot sauce. It’s that kind of place. It’s in Mother Road Market.

I went to Flo's last week (11th Street, right across from the New Hong Kong). The burger was actually pretty good. I'd say it was in the area of Ron's (original location), Weber's, and Brownie's. The fries were really good.

I ate at that Flo's location several months ago. I thought it was definitely a good burger, but I was shocked at how hardly anyone was in there during core lunch hours. I was afraid that location wouldn't make it.

Do they have another location? Also, there is a Flying Burger going in at 71st and Elwood near Tulsa Hills. Their menu looks.....diverse. Has anyone ever eaten at one? Any good?

Flo's is right near my house. It does not show a ton of business on a regular basis. Not much in that location has shown a ton of business ever, including that BBQ place owned by a former Tulsa football player?

There's a Flying Burger almost next door to the original Flo's in Catoosa. The Flying Burger opened two months ago. Haven't been there, have heard mixed reactions on the quality of food.

Flo's in Catoosa is good, but they take forever. I asked about my order after waiting for 25 minutes and they got an attitude, because I asked about my order. Haven't been back since then. I use to eat there occasionally.

That was Capp's right? Their food was pretty good. I hate it when people who have great ideas and food end up in bad locations that run them out of business.

The guy from Capp’s played at TU. It started in Okmulgee. I think it’s totally gone now.

Speaking of TU barbecue, I wish Big Anthony’s would come back. Best brisket in the state. Everything was awesome.

Harvey "Capp" Crowder. He was at TU when I first came to campus. I believe he was dating my RA in LaFortune Hall. Good guy. The pulled pork and homemade hot links at his restaurant were phenomenal.

You mean it's totally gone on 11th St., or it's totally gone on 11th St and in Okmulgee?

Just read, Billy's on the Square is closing at the end of May. I've never eaten at the location. Had a few of their burgers at the BOK. Might try to get there before they close.

C+ Burger. I will miss that place though. Great onion rings. It’s so vintage 1980’s Tulsa. I remember going there when I was a kid and thinking it was big time special. A lot of the employees have been there for decades. Sad to see it go.

I drove by Bill's Jumbo Burgers one day last week. The parking lot was completely full and many cars on the street. Looked like they had plenty of customers. Been awhile since I've been to Bill's. If I get brave, I will go.
