2024 Transfer Portal

This is why the transfer portal stinks: Belmont had three former players ranked in the top 80 of ESPN's transfer rankings: Cade Tyson, who ended up at North Carolina; Malik Dia, who committed to Ole Miss; and Ja'Kobi Gillespie, who will play at Maryland. It will be an uphill battle for Casey Alexander to win 20-plus games for the ninth straight year. Big schools Stealing all the best smaller school players.

Remember when the talking heads assured us that’s not what would happen with NIL and unlimited transfers?

Even happening to our friends at Stillwater where Tramel today says "OSU is mired in perpetual mediocrity, with no salient sign that things will improve." That was a cold welcome to Lutz.................

I’ll be surprised if there isn’t a three year commitment rule in place when the pseudo CBA gets finalized.

I cant wait for the upcoming book and lecture series from Patty Gasso...

"Navigating the Transfer Portal"... a step by step guide to constructing contact/shopping lists, utilizing intermediates to avoid tampering charges, and NIL management for the new age of college athletics.

It would likely be one helluva read. She truly appears to be the master when you take into account the end result.

She's a great coach and previously a great recruiter and developer of FR talent in the softball world. And softball was one of those fringe sports that had open transfers without needing to sit out. That rule was basically a football/basketball rule only.

Now, has she taken advantage of the transfer portal the last couple of years to reload on pitching? Absolutely but I think this year's OU softball team had 7 4 year players who won a national championship each year.

Well said. She's just got that knack for finding the right players to plug into the holes in her squad. It will be interesting to see how she fills those holes in the pitching staff this season. They just picked up the catcher they needed; great behind the plate and an asset in the batters box.

At a certain point, the networks are going to air a game that might have been competitive when scheduled but no longer is competitive on the air date due to transfers. And then they will begin to agree this whole thing is stupid. Right now, all they see is Ohio State and Michigan improving their rosters and making that game more interesting. But it won’t necessarily lead to more viewers. While the Michigan Stanford game may lose viewers.
