Williams again led his team to a 73-53 win over Baton Rogue CC with 25 pts, 4 rbs and 2 assts. In 4 games (3-1) for the 10th rated juco, he’s averaged 19 points and 7.8 rebounds.

There are other factors here, but seriously, this is garbage. I’ve never been as down on any TU program. Right now I’m not renewing tickets next year.

Our bench is looking awful thin today

I have followed TU basketball since I was in high school at Will Rogers since the early 60's. I haven't searched the records but can not remember us being so inept. We can't shoot for percentage, turn it over too much, defend like we are blind, and overall don't seem to have much talent. We maybe have 2-3 players and a little youth. We, obviously, don't match up with the worse teams in our league. But we are the worse team. Now why??? Did Haight leave the Hubbard bare? Did our new staff get established too late to capitalize on the portal? Can our new staff coach basketball? I only bring all this up because I bleed Tulsa blue. Can't make many games in person (3 hours away), but I still have football and bb season tickets. Our future is definitely in our incoming recruits, but 2 of them are freshmen. Doesn't bold well for getting out of the cellar anytime soon. We need a major makeover to even be competitive next year. Gotta get this NIL thing moving!! I bring up a lot of topics, but only because I care?!

Watching Tulsa's depleted squad almost pull off an amazing win was heartening. Especially when you see the four players first year TU coach Eric Konkol signed -- Brandon Betson, Jesaiah McWright, Bryant Selebangue and B.B. Knight -- all showing promise.

Betson led the way with 20 points, but Tulsa fell just short in a 62-60 loss Tuesday night to East Carolina in front of about 500 fans in an announced crowd of 3,002 at the Reynolds Center.

So a post on Twitter included a vid of Prince training for the combine and running a 4.4 40 yd. Guy who posted it said Prince only took 18 strides to complete it. If he can sustain and repeat that type of performance, he's going to find himself with his name called in the 3rd or 4th round, especially since he is a pretty good blocker and he's go great size. We didn't feature him much in any passing game, but if he can catch the ball out of the backfield, he's going to be a nice option for a team.

Tulsa Men travel to Philly to take on Temple. Not sure if Pritchard will be out there but if the press conference after the USF game and what has been happening, I am sure he didn’t make the trip.

Yesterday the women got ran over by Memphis which makes both teams 1-7 in their last 8 games.

TCU hang a hundo on Oklahoma State and beat them by 25.

The only game in American action saw Tulane (Tulsa’s only conference win, beat up on South Florida on the road by 18.

There are four game in the American, a double header on the U with Cincy at UCF and Tulsa at Temple. Memphis travels to Houston on ESPN and the Pirates and the Ponies are on the plus.

AND ONE

Antoine Davis of Detroit Mercy scored 30 points in the Titans 20-point win over Oakland. He has 3,471 points so far and 196 from tying Pete Maravich. With a minimum of 4 games left he will need to average 49 points to catch Pete. That will be a massively tall order to fill. So if he has any chance at getting that this season the Titans will have to make the NCAA tournament by winning the Horizon or he will need a couple of Hall of Fame worthy games. That Hall of fame run starts this afternoon against IUPUI.

Now that’s a bunch of I know we get out rebounded have 20 plus turnovers and Lose by 25 fans that no longer give a s$it.

I.T.S. faithful and unfaithful, our new D.C. is heading to that bastion of football greatness, Indiana. I find that a little disheartening. Yet, the old head ball coach, Kevin Wilson, has a drawer full of, metaphorically speaking, coaches‘ résumé’s. A savvy head football coach has his IPhone contacts handy for “just” this situation.

If this was the one and only time for a ball coach to grab the “bigger better deal” then I’d be just a bit concerned, but remember America’s mantra has and always will be the “bigger better deal”. I could do a stand up Seinfeld monologue on the “bigger better deal”.

Why did OU and Texas leave for the SEC? Bigger better deal.
Why did USC and UCLA move to the Big Ten? Bigger better deal.
Why did Lincoln Riley leave for USC? Bigger better deal.
Why did the colonies break away from Britain? Bigger better deal.

Phones, houses, cars(Oklahoma it’s pickup trucks), schools, TV’s, marriage partners. Loyalty, value, commitment, integrity, honesty, trust, are still things that a lot of solid core value people cherish. When I look at résumé’s for a prospective hire I look at their work history. Are they “constantly“ moving every 1-2 years over a 10 year period, and we all know that the college coaching profession is not for the faint of heart.

There’s an up and coming smaller school defensive coach just chomping at the bit wanting to get to the next level. What do they want? A bigger better deal.

Must have been right after TU walk through at the basketball court.

Eric Konkol was so disgusted in what he saw. He couldn't take it any more.

And for good reason. It would be hard for any team to play this poorly.

With TU down 29 points at 83-54 with 8:48 left in the game, it was timeout time. Tulsa had just given up another ridiculously easy layup with no defensive effort to a poor South Florida team.

Konkol quickly turned to his bench and motioned the rest of the team to come in. The only 5 available players who weren't in the game. A whole new group was coming in. No matter who.

Tulsa still ended up losing badly, but a 2-point improvement from that low mark in effort occurred, and Tulsa lost 96-69 in front of less than 1,000 fans of an announced crowd of 3,019 at the Reynolds Center Wednesday night.

Both the Men’s and Women’s team play today. The Men host South Florida at the Reynolds Center, and the women travel to Wichita.

Yesterday Kansas eased by Oklahoma State 87-76. Also two of the teams in the Myrtle Beach Invitational squared up with Loyola Chicago going to UMass and edging the Minutemen 64-62. Tulsa beat the Ramblers in that tourney and the Minutemen won the tourney. Oh how things change during a season.

Only a few games till we start the Conference Tourney.

Knicks To Sign DaQuan Jeffries To Camp Deal​

3:05pm: The Knicks are signing free agent swingman DaQuan Jeffries to a training camp contract, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Jeffries, 25, spent most of his first two NBA seasons with the Kings after going undrafted out of Tulsa in 2019. He spent time near the end of the 2020/21 season with the Rockets, then had a brief stint with the Grizzlies in ’21/22. In total, he has averaged 3.8 PPG and 1.9 RPG in 47 appearances (13.7 MPG) for Sacramento, Houston, and Memphis.

Jeffries has had a larger role at the G League level since going pro, recording averages of 15.7 PPG and 5.8 RPG on .469/.342/.778 shooting in 43 games (29.0 MPG) for the Stockton Kings and College Park Skyhawks.

Jeffries, who has also represented Team USA in several World Cup qualifying games over the last year, played for the Knicks’ Summer League team in Las Vegas this July.

The Knicks currently have 15 players officially under contract — 13 on guaranteed standard deals and a pair on two-way pacts. Jean Montero and Garrison Brooks have also reportedly agreed to Exhibit 10 contracts.

While it’s unclear what New York’s plans are for Jeffries, it seems he could claim one of the two open spots on the team’s projected 15-man regular season roster if he has a strong camp and preseason.

The NIL situation is getting buried in a variety of threads and since it and the portal will help decide the future of TU athletics, I thought it might be good to have its own thread. I don't know much about it at TU but other schools are promoting it on their official athletic web sites and it is rumored we have lost a few recruits already because of it.

I know it may be time for someone in the know (Huffy) to explain collectives and how it may be working at TU and why it has not been publicized to our donors.
