Games of Interest (11.20.22) Murray State

ITS GAMEDAY!!!

Today is the last day of the Myrtle Beach Invitational and there has been some great games to be at. I have been happy for the most part with how we have played so far. I look forward to the next tournament.

Speaking of tournaments we have several teams in 6 different tournaments this week. There will be a separate post for those tournaments after today. All of those will be on one post through Thanksgiving. Tulsa will play on Black Friday against Oklahoma State.

We do have a big schedule on Tap today and it starts with Tulsa in the Third Place game playing at 9:30 in the morning. Lord that is early. That game will be followed up by the Championship game at noon between Charlotte and Masschusetts. Loyola Chicago and Texas A&M will be playing for 7th place at 3:30. Our next opponent will be playing DePaul in the Baha Mar tournament as will UCF.

Most competitive game will probably be the VCU at Memphis game at 4 p.m. The nightcap will have Houston traveling to Oregon. Both should be good games.

And One

The World Cup starts today with the first game between Qatar and Ecuador at 7:00 a.m. USA plays Whales at 1:00 p.m. Monday. Lets hope we have a good showing. This is a great time of year. Football, Basketball and World Cup. I am going to be very busy. lol

GO TU!!!!

Biden & Burisma Scandal Suppressed by Facebook & Twatter

People should be outraged that social media is actively censoring an actual news outlet (NY Post). People stand idly by doing and saying nothing bc all they care about is getting Biden elected. Just wait until they start censoring Liberals. These companies are the biggest threat to our democracy and their protection must be removed.
Pics of Biden’s son smoking crack, emails, messages, financial records! What a joke!

TW's story on TU's soccer win over Georgetown

Good coverage by John Tranchina. He's the best TU beat writer they've had in quite a while.

Cross Country Nationals

Maybe I missed it but I don’t recall a post on the national championship. Not bad but I really expected a higher finish.

We’ve been consistently good but I was hoping for a shot at the national title. Still, the guys are giving the university some great publicity and have become one of the top cross country teams over the past year. I expect we’ll be right there again in the years to come. Congratulations to Coach Gulley and the guys.

STILLWATER, Okla. –– Cormac Dalton and Shay McEvoyearned All-America honors as the No. 5 University of Tulsa men's cross-country team finished ninth on the Greiner Family Cross Country Course at the Division I NCAA Championships Saturday morning.

"We're leaving Stillwater slightly disappointed with our performance," coach Taylor Gulley said. "But it speaks volumes about the growth of this program when ninth place at the National Championships is seen as a frustrating result. We didn't get out great and couldn't move through the field like we had planned.

"I know this team has done everything possible to prepare for today, and unfortunately we just didn't have our best race today."

Chloe Hershenow placed 135th as an individual in the women's championship, traversing the 6k course in 20:49.6. NC State swept the individual and team title. Katelyn Tuohy made a late push to close the gap on Florida's Parker Valby and win the race, while NC State edged out New Mexico 114-140.

"It's very hard for kids to have a great race in the NCAA Championship when it's their first trip, but Chloe did a great job," coach Steve Gulley said. "On top of that, it's difficult to run as an individual. We are such a team-oriented program and she's not a selfish individual. I think she would've preferred to have her team there with her. But overall, she ran a great race, and we are proud of her."

In the men's race, Dalton navigated the 10k course in 29:16.0 to capture 15th, while McEvoy finished 23rd in 29:25.7, each solidifying All-America status. They're the 13th and 14th All-Americans in the history of the men's program.

"Cormac and Shay timed things perfectly and really moved through the field exceptionally well," Taylor Gulleysaid. "Incredibly impressive running from those two. It arguably might have been the toughest year to place top 40, and those two ran phenomenal races to do so."

Isaac Akers narrowly missed out on All-America himself, placing 44th in the race, finishing in 29:40.4. Micheal Power placed 61st with a 10k time of 29:51.3 and Malte Propp (31:04.9) came in 202nd to round out the top five for Tulsa.

Luke Lambert (31:29.8) and Max Nores (31:56.0) placed 223rd and 236th respectively. Tulsa finished with 304 team points.

The top time and individual title belonged to Charles Hicks of Stanford, who ran a blistering 28:43.6 race. But it was Northern Arizona who completed the three-peat, winning its sixth title in seven years. It was as close a finish as you can get as, for the second race in a row, Oklahoma State tied in points, 83, for the top spot, but lost on the tiebreaker and had to settle for second.

BYU, the team who broke up Northern Arizona's two threepeats, placed third. Stanford entered the race as the top-ranked team but settled for fourth, while Wake Forest rounded out the top five. Wisconsin, Air Force and Colorado were the next three in front of the Hurricane, with North Carolina taking 10th.

Midterm predictions…cuss and discuss

Will abortion save the Dem majorities in the House and Senate or will the economy and Biden’s poor job approval result in a red wave giving the Pubs majorities in both chambers?

Current prediction (I will change it weekly until Election Day):

Pubs gain 25 seats in the House and take the majority

Senate ends up 50/50. Several close races which could go either way here.

Games of Interest (11.18.22 - 11.19.22) Charlotte

ITS Game Day!!!

That was an absolutely great game and I got my voice back from screaming at the top of my lungs last night. The Drunk Massachusetts guy was screaming as well. It was great fun. Thought a couple times Nevada was going to knock the guysbeer over lol. IT was tremendous. All of the teams in the tournament except for Tulsa had a decent fan following yesterday. I believe I was the only fan under 60 there for Tulsa.

Tonight we play Charlotte. This is a preview of next years conference game match up. I am happy Charlotte is coming to the AAC because that will get me another game to go to with me on the East Coast. Murray St. and Massachusetts are the game previous to TU and will set up the Championship game Sunday afternoon.

We have a few tourneys starting. UCF and OSU face off in the Bahamas at the Baha Mar. Georgetown and LMU face off in Montego Bay, Jamaica in the Jamaican Classic

Temple faces Rutgers at the Mohegan Sun for the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase.

Great games today but I will be at the HTC center getting my Myrtle Beach on.

Tulsa Football plays at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN2. That is all I will say on that.

And One

When Nevada and I got to the arena yesterday we went to the concession stand and the guy behind the counter said “You guys came from Oklahoma?” We told him that we didn’t and he had a puzzled look on his face. I told him we were from the Tulsa area but he lives in Nevada and I live in Virginia. Then that afternoon I got to have a short conversation with Coach Conroy and Coach Haymond. Great times. Let get another win.

GO TU!!!!

📝 Larry Lewis Game Recap -- TU holds off USF on Senior Night

The past and the future both shined for Tulsa on Senior Night, showing what has been and what can be. The "old" guys like Deneric Prince and Keylon Stokes had terrific nights, and Braylon Braxton came through with his first win as a starter at quarterback. The result was a 48-42 Tulsa win over South Florida on Friday night in front of an announced crowd of 13,819 at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Myrtle Beach Invitational

Here are where the 8 teams in this tournament stand before the tournament, with their Ken Pom ratings in parenthesis. The ratings are going to be a bit off this early in the season due to a lack of sample size, but it is what I tend to check to gauge where teams stand in D1. It is going to be a tough tournament for us, there are a lot of good teams in it this year.
  • Texas A&M (31): 2-0
  • Colorado (59): 2-1
  • Loyola Chicago (70): 2-0
  • Boise St (83): 1-1
  • Murray St (140): 1-1
  • Charlotte (152): 2-0
  • UMass (155): 1-1
