Kevin Wilson’s coaching staff appears to have made Choctaw (OK) standout Will Smith a priority since the spring. Smith plays both receiver and defensive end for Choctaw, and he’s projected as a linebacker by Rivals.com. TU is recruiting him as a defensive athlete.

The University of Tulsa has agreed to a home-and-home football series with Conference USA member Sam Houston State with games scheduled for the 2026 and 2031 seasons.

Tulsa travels to Huntsville, Texas, for the first of the two games on Sept. 12, 2026, at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium, while Sam Houston State returns the trip to Tulsa on Aug. 30, 2031.

The two teams have played once before, coming in the 2009 season when Tulsa defeated Sam Houston State, 56-3, at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Kicking can be as much of a head game as golf. Or shooting in basketball. The skill and ability can be there, but after that, it is almost all about confidence. Tulsa will have a new kicker and punter handling things this year. How they perform, especially at place kicker, will go a long way in determining if Tulsa wins or loses close games.

🏈 Recruiting 2024 QB Cash McCollum impressed with Tulsa

2024 QB Cash McCollum has been racking up scholarship offers, including one from Tulsa, where he visited recently. (By the way, McCollum is one of only two 2024 QB's with Tulsa offers that are uncommitted.)

Already at war with China

Under Trump and more so under Biden, the US has cut off China from access to cutting edge chip technology. Given the importance of these chips to both research, AI, military weapons, and even some high end consumer products, some has called this an "act of war". NYTimes article below details the issue. Have to wonder if visits by senior US officials are a sufficient offset or what they discuss with the Chinese.

Gold Cup

So, the US is playing well other than the goal they conceded to a fired up Jamaican side. Despite that the US looked decent with their B side. They are playing everyone else's A side, except Mexico May be playing the A-minus side. Lots of starters playing for Mexico minus Lozano (injured). I think the days of Herrera, Chicharito, and Raul Jimenez are over.

Shocking results so far in that Canada hasn't won in their 1st two group games instead drawing Guadeloupe 2-2, and a scoreless draw with Guatemala who actually created more chances than Canada.

US plays T&T today and if they win by 2+ goals, will likely earn 1st in the group and avoid Mexico until the finals setting up a nice clash. Canada will likely need to beat Cuba by 2+ goals and hope Guatemala and Guadeloupe don't draw. Cuba has been a disappointment so far. Coming in I think Cuba was pegged to finish 2nd in the group. The little islands have played well. Guadeloupe for sure. Martinique has played well also.

CONCACAF mainstays Costa Rica and Honduras have been dreadful.
