ITS GAMEDAY!!!

We have two tournaments that are starting today. The Myrtle Beach Invitational in Conway, SC and the Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach, FL. Tulsa plays the late game at Myrtle beach. We also now have a ranked team in the tournament. Texas A&M is now ranked #24 and they play Murray State today in game 2. South Florida is playing Austin Peay in the Sunshine Slam. Unlike when Tulsa was in the Sunshine Slam, this one will be on ESPN+ and not the LOCA Network. Lol.

We only have a few games today but the holiday tournaments are going to be starting up this week.

And One

Since I am here at Coastal Carolina for the tournament. Virginia has cancelled their game at home with Coastal. Virginia has one game left and it is at Virginia Tech. I don’t think its likely but I would like to see Tech move the game back to Charlottesville and have tributes to the three young men. I believe this would be a massively class move. I don’t think it will happen but I hope so.

Heres an idea maybe polls should wait to see who really in the top 25 this year. The first poll should be No sooner than Dec. 1st IMO.
Some of these schools start out high and end way too high.

Today is the home opener for the Men’s team as they take on Jackson State who is 0-1 on the season. Jackson State lost to Abilene Christian 65-56. Abilene Christian built a big 20 point lead at half but Jackson State started clawing back but was not able to get on a good run to get it close. Ken Evans Jr. (19 points) and Gabe Wilson (16 points) were the only players in double figures. Both teams shot the same from the field but the tale of this game is that Jackson St. went 2-19 from beyond the Arc. They can make free throws so keeping them off the line needs to be a focus.

So there was a game that messed me up as Mississippi Valley State played Hawaii in the Rainbow Classic and lost 72-54. This is a must win game for TU.

Also if you didn’t see Temple pulled off the upset of #16 Villanova. South Florida gave #15 Auburn a good game and made them sweat. The American went 4-2 yesterday. Hopefully the conference wins more out of Conference games.

We don’t have a powerhouse of games today but there is still college football. The game to watch today is #17 Tulane hosting #22 UCF. This could very well determine who could be going to the NY6 game. The only bad thing is the game is at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2. So set your DVR’s to record that game. I will have both games up.

We have some players but this needs to end. It’s the same thing every week.

I was not aware of the relationship between TU and the tower. Also, I think KMOD’s studios were located there after the building was finished.

Can anyone use red lot parking passes for the basketball games (especially anyone going to Myrtle Beach)? I checked my PO Box today and found a pack in there. I won’t be in Tulsa during basketball season so I would be happy to pass them along.

Definitely some difference in atmosphere and appearance in Reynolds. Too early to tell about attendance. Jackson State who usually is small and quick , look tall and long in warmups. Maybe no Nikita today , not warming up.

If Embery-Simpson, who scored a career high 20 points to lead the Golden Hurricane to a hard fought 85-79 victory over Jackson State, can play anywhere near like this the rest of the season, TU's hopes have just been raised.

But I see an 0-1 BB team coming off an 11-20 season, with a sell out. And I hear about the FB tailgates. And I just can't help but think there's a real and meaningful potential fan base in Tulsa waiting to be activated by the right coaches and administrators. Brad's focus on making games fun events, exciting and winning teams, engaging coaches. I see more opportunity here than I ever in a million years would have guessed. Lot of hard work ahead but lots of positive signs.

what happened to the NHHU offense? it relied on speed to keep the defense off balance. now its just a reactionary spread offense with no real function other than to eleminate the huddle. Once tulsa lost the speed of the offense, the advantages it had were gone

....... tonight was the last nail in the coffin ⚰️ ... pull the trigger now or at the end of the season ?

Happy Veterans Day!

Unlike Memorial Day, today is a day to thank veterans for their service. There are people that do not believe in thanking veterans for their service and that is ok. This is the country thanking veterans. As a veteran I do not seek recognition and when I get it I feel weird about it. Its doing a job for me and that is what I did. There is a little extra that comes with it and that we must deal with on our own by getting the assistance that we need. All of us, me included, have had our lives affected because of a veteran. I pass by Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon every day that I go into work. I pass by the Air Force Memorial and The Museum of the Marine Corps every day.

I served in the Marines for just over 9 years and had 3 deployments with them into Iraq and Africa. I still have not set foot in the Museum as I have not become ok with it yet. I was medically retired due to PTSD, Severe Anxiety and Morbid Depression. Doing things like this post each year helps me center myself and gives me a purpose to express myself in different ways. I know you didn’t ask to hear this and its ok because its my post. Lol. I am just one of many of the veterans that have stories. IF you are a veteran then thank you for your service. I challenge all of you and I ask that you challenge others to seek out a veteran and let them tell you their story. Some of the older ones just want someone to talk to.

Now on to basketball!!

The Tulsa Women move to 2-0 as they dismantled San Jose State last night and have a date with Arkansas on the 14th. This team has improved from last season from the looks of it so far and this game will be a good check on how far they have come. Coach Nelp is doing a fantastic job. I am not a big Womens basketball fan because a lot of games just seem disjointed. I do find myself watching this team. Remember tickets are like 5 bucks and would be a good time for a family event at the Reynolds center. So there is that.

Cincinnati had to hold off Cleveland State who just would not go away. Oklahoma State did not have such luck as they lost it at the end at home to Southern Illinois.

Marquette destroyed Central Michigan and UC Riverside edged out Loyola Marymount.

Today we have a rather large slate of games.

We have Temple, SMU and South Florida playing top 25 teams this evening. Only Temple has the game at home. The other two are on the road. Houston and Saint Joseph’s are playing a neutral site game in Annapolis for the Veterans Classic.
