China winning the AI race with less overhead cost and more innovation.

Looks like a bunch of young Chinese university kids beat the socks off of USA's best silicon valley companies including OpenAI, Meta, and X. We've been pouring money into this area of research and were outclassed where necessity breeds opportunity. This is concerning and has political implications if the US can't get its act together in terms of innovation.

To put more emphasis on it... this wasn't just a case of intellectual property theft... they really showed ingenuity in advancing farther, faster, and cheaper than we have been able to.

SoCal fires

Yes, but:

Fire risks are worse than when many people moved in due to extended drought. It's not always a choice or someone being irresponsible and building newly in a fire area. Los Alamos National Laboratory is in a high fire threat area and almost burned down in the 2002 fire. It would easily cost tens of billions of dollars to just move it. Not to mention all the people living here that would have to uproot and also need to live near the lab to work effectively.

Also, if you read the article you will see they are considering a number of factors. We can't know what will be in the final bill, but they are discussing fire prevention and remediation efforts as part of the requirements for qualifying for the state run insurance.

As an aside, if your insurance company drops you and you refuse to meet some basic state standards to qualify for the state-run plan, I am totally okay with you not getting a penny of relief funds. I also really don't want you as a neighbor.
My problem is primarily with the middle and lower class homeowners subsidizing the insurance for the millionaires who want to enjoy the views along the gulf coast or in the hills of Southern California. Hopefully there will be caps on what is subsidized.

Agree with some basic requirements to receive federal relief funds.

Sounds like people in lower risk areas will soon be subsidizing the insurance for those who chose to live in high risk areas.

And speak of the devil:

Not sure it will get done this year as we have a really short legislative window, but there is very clear bipartisan support as communities of both GOP and Dem strongholds have burned down in recent years.

Yes, there have been issues with big forest fires in logging areas. There were multi million dollar settlements to logging companies in Oregon in the last few years for damage to their leases.
Hey, speaking of cargo planes fighting fires, the chemicals that they are dropping on LA residential areas is going to make those areas toxic for a long time. Not sure how they detox those areas sufficiently to rebuild when they want to. But it will be expensive and will insurance cover that sort of risk?

Grocery prices finally coming down….

I’m not going to say that people are going to starve due to a tomato shortage, and things like bread and corn don’t really require manual labor…. But produce shortages do really affect the diets of America. People probably won’t die, it will upend the entire grocery economy as well as screw over countless restaurants and fast food chains.

Imagine how far the sales of Papa John’s Pizza Hut and Dominoes would dip without tomatoes. Of course we can import but now you’re probably 1.5x ing the cost of the most popular meal in America.

All because people couldn’t put aside racial prejudice.
Let's see what actually happens. I suspect you are correct, but few will care before it's clearly taking place. Then the excuses can start.

Tulsa Man Wants J6 Pardon

lol. From someone who brought up the Whiskey Rebellion as an example of how those who commit treason should be treated yet had zero issues with Washington pardoning every person convicted in said rebellion. Your fake partisan outrage is ridiculous.
There were only 2 people convicted out of thousands of rebels. Most of the rebels fled when Washington's forces came into the area.

Happy End of Democracy Day

Its an amateur sport which 90% of the participants will never continue past high school and 99% won't continue past college. Who cares? We artificially draw lines and divisions based on who's daddy has the funding to buy them private coaching lessons and can afford travel. If there's a girl good enough to play on our men's team and win us games... I'll take her tomorrow.

Some of Tulsa's men's players over the past few years probably would have fit better among decent women's players than they did on the men's team.
1) You’re taking educational and athletic opportunities away from females.

2) You’re putting female athletes at a much higher risk of injury or serious bodily harm by requiring them to play against males who have gone through puberty prior to transitioning to female.

Happy End of Democracy Day

I have my doubts if there will ever be a female who is transitioning to a male post puberty competing in high level (D1) college athletics or at the Olympic level. Would be very interesting to see it but the physical disadvantages of not going through puberty as a male would make it very difficult imo.

My daughter occasionally trains with the local 15 and 16 year old MLS Next boys. 3-4 years ago she could play them heads up. Those days are long gone.

USMNT New Era

My son's old soccer coach is in Tampa area now but I think he had his team on the Gulf Coast of MS for a tournament and he shot a photo right outside his hotel (on the beach) and it was just plastered in snow. He is not a cold weather type of guy. There have been some FL soccer moms on a Soccer Parent page asking about cold weather gear for their kids because they've never really had to deal with it. I just had to laugh. I remember the TU women playing a home game back in 1993 in late October and Skelly was covered in snow and ice. It started falling early in the game and the ref (and I think it was Milo) just kept playing through it. It was hilarious.

Too funny... snow in a swamp. I guess it can happen.

Oklahoma Governor Race

Does the Drummond campaign just have money to burn? Campaign commercial after campaign commercial. Is anyone even running against him?
Well, there have been some big-money events for Ryan Walters. Did you not see the post that TikTok video of one of the donors doing a hit-and-run at his event? It got at least 250k views on there in a day. It has probably been seen a million times, considering all the different people who reworked it in various ways.

The former CEO of NGL partners, SageNet guy and head of Shaw Homes was hosting that event. The wife of that Shaw home seems like a trump butt sniffer. She hosts a minor podcast but has had the usual menagerie of trump zoo animals that get Trumplican jollies going. If Melania was down for a swinger event, I am sure she would be in.

Drummond has pissed off some people in certain circles in the past. I want Walters to run out of pure amusement.
