Youth soccer club

We loved Yo, despite not being able to have tons of interactions with her. The times she ran my daughter’s trainings was so good. She really set a level of expectation that the girls needed.
At what age? A big difference exists between running a 10-year-old training and 19-year-olds in college. Her record at RSU was mixed--winning and losing. She was 10-6-2 and was 5-8-5 in her second year.

Well it was around 10-11 I think.

Her college record doesn’t really matter to me, to be honest. She was
Good for my daughter / the group, and since that’s my experience with her, that’s all that really matters to me.

I was referencing her as a TU coach.

Don’t know why we think she would be some marked boost. Better background and pedigree but she didn't exactly kill it in a the college coaching ranks.

oh yeah I have no input on the collegiate level. My fault.
No worries. I am glad you have joined our conversations. It is always nice to have another perspective. I have younger children, and I enjoy hearing about others' journeys. Different people always have different experiences.

Thanks for taking the time to type and bring your vantage.

My 2 cents on Yo. My kid never played for her at TSC or trained with her there. When Yo left TSC she contacted us and asked if my daughter would come to some trainings she was doing with U14 to U18 girls. I thought those trainings were high level. She also reviewed game film with my kid and gave feedback and evaluation. Didn’t charge us a dime for those reviews. I’m a fan. No clue how she would do as a D1 college head coach at this stage in her career but as a trainer and person looking to help girls improve their game there are few better imo.

Just a thought on soccer coaches…they come in all varieties. Some with will mesh well with your kid and some won’t. Some are very demanding and harsh while others are rainbows and unicorns. The best ones have a combination of those traits imo. The high level coaches at high level clubs are under tremendous pressure to win. Imagine your career being dependent on the performance of 14 year old girls. Some handle that pressure better than others. There are no perfect coaches.

I'm just happy to be here and be able to have what seems to be pretty objective conversations about things happening around Tulsa youth soccer.

IDP just happened / are happening for my daughter’s team.

Hers was pretty good. Her coach has pretty good communication skills, despite English being a second language for him.

I’m hoping that he’s able to follow through on the goals he’s set for the team. I sometimes wonder how much the “club” gets in the way of these coaches.

He did mention a thing that I think was accurate: the main difference between TSC and the other teams we’re playing seems to be mentality. We lack the right mentality to be winners.

She can coach high level talent. She did a great job as player coach of Fortuna Tulsa which she had to recruit players to come and play for. I have no doubt that if she were to take over a D1 team, with her experience in the pros, she would be able to recruit and put a good product on the field. Even at TU.

And let's remember, D2 is not the same as D1. You're not getting the same resources, you can't bring in all the same level of talent, and my guess is there are some restrictions at places like RSU where she needs to take a majority of Oklahoma based players.

And some of those 14 year old girls are on the team not because you chose them but because you couldn't send them down to the 2nd team for more playing time and proper development because mommy and daddy have money. I don't know how any of the other ECNL clubs really work but I know TSC does do this because to the brass at TSC, keeping a kid at TSC (and their parents $) is more important than having the best possible team for that level.

Yeah this is a thing I think we're seeing a lot of right now...but I also think that TSC is just not able to get other talented players from other clubs to come over, for whatever reason.

For my daughter's team, I know that there is a competitive roster out there, but for one reason or another, parents would rather keep their kids at WSA / Blitz / wherever instead of going to TSC and trying to play NL.

Like, these girls aren't even coming to tryouts. That's wild to me.

I can't speak for WSA but the girls that play at Blitz love their coaches. I think WSA has a direct connection to a D1 girls program at ORU and I know Wes Branstetter recruits a lot of WSA girls to go play at Pitt St (D2) and he had a connection with the Bushes at WSA as well. Plus both of those clubs have RL and I know they're being told if they play well enough they could get promoted. Plus the politics at TSC I know has pushed a lot of girls to the other clubs. They might be NL quality but weren't getting the looks they thought they should have been getting so they went elsewhere. I know several TSC players (boys and girls) who have left over the lack of transparency in the tryout process. Players know what's up and who should get those shots. I mean the Oklahoma State Gatorade Player of the Year left TSC because TSC refused to move a GK off the NL team.

There's a lot of pressure to play ECNL and the players feel it and I think it burns them out as well. I think some of those players move away from TSC or stay at their current clubs because they just want to play and enjoy playing.

That makes sense. NL is a lot of pressure.

That Gatorade player of the year got butthurt because he was told he was going to have to share time. Reality bites when you competing against Dallas Texans academy vs PC original.

Who is telling they are getting promoted to NL as a club? I have heard this line of horse dook since I moved back to Tulsa.

It seems like there are a bunch of truly ignorant parents that don't understand the vast chasm between NL vs RL play. If you say there isn't, then you know very little about soccer.

If Pitt state is your goal for soccer, you can probably make it as a GA player. I have refereed many RL games, and I can hardly do it anymore. I have done WSA games. It isn't pretty.

If I was the director of the ECNL, I would watch that and say there isn't a chance in hell that is standing in against Real Colorado, Solar, Texans, FC Dallas, and Challenge. The unfortunate thing as I have mentioned on here is that Tulsa is a small market. If we start disaggregating the talent, it really screws us up to compete with Texas.

It sucks to make Barry the dude because I guess he pisses off so many people but Tulsa coaches also bounce around too. Look at Joao he has gone through all 3 of the bigger clubs now.

But also agree with you at ECNL there is a lot of pressure, some people may not want that. That is cool. Soccer is a journey. define your path. Friendships, coaches, experiences, teammates, winning all add up. You may just want to hangout and play more competitive games with your pals. That's fine too.

It would just be nice from a competition perspective if there was someone of a very high level ready to slip in. In Dallas, I am sure there are 6 girls ready for every one that leaves

I really like Wes. He led Pitt St to a .500 record last season in the school’s first year of women’s soccer. He’s been everywhere this fall recruiting. I could see him landing a D1 job in the next several years.

I saw where Jack Franklin “Gatorade POTY” signed with a D2 school. Pretty unusual for the Oklahoma POTY not to go D1. What’s the story there ? Granted a significant number of the best boys in the state don’t play high school soccer.

There is more smoke that usual this year surrounding WSA taking the NL spot from TSC. Especially on the girls side. In part due to WSA girls being invited to the ECNL showcase in Dallas next month. It’s been a tough year at TSC on the girls side with all the NL player defections and their teams struggling to be competitive. That said….this rumor kicks off every year about this time and nothing ever happens. I expect a repeat again this year. ECNL meetings are at the end of this month. If anything does happen the information will leak shortly.

It’s a little easier to compete on the boys side as ECNL is the second tier league to MLS Next. In Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc…the best boys are in MLS Next

I have watched the teams. Unless something has changed, the chasm is wide. They will get lit up.

That was not a knock on Wes. Trust me Wes is a solid, solid dude.

there is a lot more to that story That I don't want to type on this board.

I’m very aware of the size of the chasm. I’m also aware that u13-u17 girls play for the letters “ECNL” and not the club. If WSA were awarded TSC’s NL status the player exodus from TSC to WSA would be massive and immediate. Very few girls are staying at TSC to play ECRL for Barry

Assume everyone saw where Scheels is sponsoring their own academy league this spring?
