Tulsa shooting

Sad thing is the number of victims represents only a fraction of the people shot and killed in Chicago this weekend. 80 shot and 20 killed last I saw.

Abbot in Texas claims that AR-15's are a sporting rifle. Some sport.

What's wrong with this picture? The US rate is about 4.1 deaths per 100K likley due to mass shootings of students.

Curious since you tied AR-15s to a death by firearm statistic. What percent of those deaths are from AR-15s? Since you tied them together I assume a significant percentage ? Otherwise, why link them.

For mass shootings I'm pretty certain the % is high. For more everyday shootings involving one or three individuals, it's probably not nearly as high.

You always complain about Chicago. Shootings in Chicago, Baltimore, or where ever, that are not mass shootings, is like a car wreck. Mass shootings are like a plane crash. One is all over the news, the other is an every day occurrence, and doesn't get much press. That's just reality. It doesn't justify ignoring guns like the AR 15.

My only problem is that when the AR 15 is declared illegal, criminals will make easy to do alterations to existing 'hunting' rifles. Those alterations will change them into a gun that operates like an AR 15. Legislation would have to be passed to force the gun industry to make easy changes to the way they manufacture rifles to have any real effect. That is even harder to get through legislation than declaring the AR 15 as illegal.

The shooting in highland park is one of the few scenarios where having a rifle made any difference for the shooter because he shot from a roof. If he didn’t have a rifle he likely wouldn’t have tried to shoot from there. In most cases a mass shooting can just as easily be carried out with a pistol, which is why many have been done with a pistol historically. The reason it happens more with AR’s and the like now is mostly 1. because they’re now just very popular guns in general and 2. Because the media has chosen to emphasize when a rifle is used. So now there is a sort of copy cat pattern.

I asked because WATU posted a statistic of all firearm deaths and linked a specific weapon to the post. Not sure why someone would link those in that way unless (1) said weapon make up a significant portion of those deaths or (2) you’re intentionally trying to mislead people.

Just fyi…I’m not a gun guy. Have never even owned a gun. Have zero insight on converting guns to semi or automatic.

What is the definition of a “mass shooting”? Two or more people shot during a single incident?

Believe it’s typically 4 or more people killed. The number with 2 or more people shot would be very high.

And to your point, no rifles are not usually used in homicides (just a unique kind of homicide). Rifles are difficult to conceal so not a great option for most criminals. It’s a popular gun in general though, so it might begin to be used more often.

I think there is somewhat of a porn definition to a mass shooting.(I know it when I see it.) It has to be a lone gunman.(usually) He/she has to be going after a mass of people for reasons of anger towards a general sect of the public.(employees of a company, members of a church, a certain racial definition, etc.) It cannot be someone angry and/or taking out vengeance on other criminals or known associates.(not multiple innocent victims with no real or solid association with the shooter) And multiple innocent victims have to be wounded, not just one or two caught in the crossfire.

I thought I covered that in the aforementioned excerpts of the post, in above self quoted post.

You did and thank you for the response. It certainly seems like social media is playing more and more of a role in these mass shootings.

I, myself am not a gun guy either. I owned a rifle that my grandfather gifted me around 12 years old. I only used it two or three times for target practice in the year or two after it was given to me as a gift. At that point someone broke into our house in the country and stole it, along with various other items. I could have mentioned it to my grandfather and he probably would have given me another one, but did not have enough of a desire for me to mention it. Other than that, I have fired someone else's pistol in target practice maybe 3 or 4 times in my life. My use of a gun, consists of less than 3 or 4 hours of target practice in my entire life. I don't hate guns, but nor do I love them.

You can look up how to convert a rifle to an automatic weapon and see the ease and minimal amount of time for converting a gun on youtube. It takes a minimal ability with a soldering gun and 5 to 15 min depending how your ability is with a soldering gun. It might take you an hour or two to figure out how to do it the first time, if you have no understanding of the rifle you are doing it to, and no ability with a soldering gun. But after a maximum of 2 hours the first time, you would get very close to 15 min the second time. It is not that difficult.

And that most pistols don't have 30 rounds of capacity.

Google is your friend. 30 round mags are sold for pretty much every semi-auto pistol i've ever used. Most people just don't care to use them

Do you mean converting a rifle to Automatic from Semi-Automatic? I suspect it's much harder to convert a mechanical action of a bolt or a lever to Semi Auto.

I'm aware they are sold. They aren't common, and their caliber is significantly less deadly than .556 (which I'm guessing most of these rifle mass shootings will be)

Even after this incident the Chicago shooter was approved for his FOID card by the state of Illinois which allowed him to purchase the weapon. We can pass multiple laws related to the purchase of firearms but until they work as intended they aren’t worth the paper they’re written on.

No the goalpost is the same. I said, MOST PISTOLS DON'T HAVE 30 ROUNDS OF CAPACITY, to which you replied "but 30 round mags exist", and I retorted, yes the exist but they aren't widely used (or purchased) and they're much less deadly calibers (at least in comparison to mags and ammo for .556 AR's)

Well, that and the fact that he was a complete MAGA wacko.... should have clued us in to some tendencies.

It just seems like during every one of these events one side always uses the excuse that we need more guns, even though our previous deference to adding more and more guns to the equation has just increased the frequency and severity of the occasions.

The only valid argument I hear for 'more guns' is inevitably:

'well there are already so many guns already in circulation, that if we outlaw guns for good guys they will be empty handed when bad guys have them'.

That conclusion leaves me flabbergasted every time....It's the same argument that they tend to use against climate change: "Well, we've already screwed things up so bad, that there's no changing without insurmountable costs to society" It's an excuse for perpetual escalation ignoring the severity of the results of the actions.

In the end, I think it's just the common reaction for people who are told it's in their best interest to stop doing something they want to do. At a certain point it's just obstinance for obstinance's sake. They aren't going to listen to reason.

If you try hard you might hone in on your original argument

You lost me there. He has hours upon hours of content online and zero is really political other than a video or two making fun of Trump supporters. His friends who have been interviewed have stated the same thing…crazy ass but not political. Info may yet come out but I’ve seen nothing he has posted online which indicates he is a “compete MAGA wacko”…and he posted a lot.

Why make this tragedy political?

“Elsewhere on social media, he posted multiple pictures of himself at Trump rallies, some of which feature him dressed as the title character from “Where’s Waldo?” He has also posted pictures of himself wrapped in a Trump flag, and a video he shot of Trump landing at an airport and leaving in his motorcade.”

You wrap yourself in a Trump flag, I typically say you’re a MAGA wacko. Same goes for the girl who got shot attacking the Capitol.

I make it political because part of the reason these tragedies keep happening (or at least the reason they’re becoming more frequent rather than less frequent) is political in nature.

Maybe we make a law restricting the sale of arms to people with neck / face tats. Clearly these people aren’t prone to making good decisions. Lol

I’m not really sure what he was other than a wacko. His Twitter page “awake the rapper” paints an opposite picture of your portrayal. Maybe an alter ego? Lots of social media content including songs and writings. None of which proclaim any fondness for any political line of thought. Not something one typical (never) sees from a right wing wacko. I assume we will find out more in the days and weeks to come. Best insight we have to date are from the people who knew him and they say he wasn’t political which matches all his writings and films.

I don’t believe this shooting was political. You do. We will soon see who is correct.

Paints the opposite picture of my portrayal. It's not a portrayal. It's his actual life. That's where he was.

I never said this shooting was inherently political. My point was that a lot of MAGA nuts have a screw loose to begin with. Btw... the dad of this kid was liking right wing 2nd amendment tweets in the aftermath of Uvalde up to a few days ago.

You literally said “I make it political” . His dad appears to be a nut. His mom is a holistic hippie heeler btw. Both of his parents have issues and apparently ignored their son’s mental issues. Dad co-signed his son’s application to obtain the rifle btw which enable him to purchase it. Signed it knowing his son had previously threatened to kill people. Hope they find a way to charge him with something. He deserves to see the inside of a jail cell imo

The shooter liked a bunch of left wing propaganda under his “Awake the rapper” account. Suppose that’s not real life?

Like I said, let’s see if this tragedy was political (as you made it) or not as I claim. From what has come out today regarding his motivations I’m looking to be the one in the right.

The issue of anyone being allowed to buy the weapons he bought (and attachments) is the point I'm making political. As well as the fact that people wearing Trump flags have shown a clear propensity for violent action. I am not saying that he was specifically out to blast Democrats on the day. There is a difference.

He didn't have left wing propoganda under his Alt account. What you're associating with the left wing is ridiculous. What I'm associating with the right wing is literally attending Trump rallies and wearing Trump flags.

Based on Democrat ad buys and campaign donations around the country, I somewhat agree with your premise of a false flag operations to influence voter outcomes.
