Chapman Hair Band Concert

LOL, sounds like someone who doesn't interact with many young women and girls. This will be a life defining concert for many of them. It's hard to grasp how popular TS is with them, it's like U2 was when I was a kid except that the emotional connection they feel to TS is a lot stronger. Trivia question, who is the only artist in the history of the Billboard Top 100 to have all 10 of the top 10 spots?
This is very true. I have 10 and 11 year old nieces that are infatuated by her. Your U2 reference was spot on.

That emotional connection with millions doesn't make her talent any better. Memorable concert that is part of childhood, maybe. Life defining? The boy bands/hair bands though popular, were not life defining. It's milk toast music with no real grit. Johnny Mathis, Tom Jones, etc etc were popular in their day. They were not life defining. Their are tons of acts that were popular with the youth/female youth of their time that were not life defining. All popular musicians with the youth are not Elvis & The Beatles. In fact most acts that are popular with the youth are not Elvis or the Beatles. Those are exceptions to the rule.
The comparison to boy bands/hair bands is silly, you're WAY into "get off my dad blasted lawn" territory. A couple things make TS defining for so many girls and young women. It's clear she's an enormously talented lyricist, and her diaristic, autobiographical style really speaks to the situation of young women, with depth and not just "I like this boy and he doesn't like me". And she's been successful for so long that her music tracks (so far) from her teenage years into her 30s, so her music resonates with the lives of girls as they transition to young adulthood and maturity. For more than one generation now, she's been the main musical influence as girls grow up and move between life stages (she's had 10 studio albums over 17 years and all but the first reached #1 on the Billboard charts, and her most recent was one of the most popular albums of all times, as she gets older, she gets MORE popular). You might not feel her music has substance, but that's because it doesn't speak to your situation as an older man, she's speaking a language you don't know and talking about problems that you don't understand.

If you think her music has "no grit", then you've clearly never listened to it. I don't personally like Anti-Hero (don't tell my daughter) but you don't get a lot more grit than that. The 10 minute version of All Too Well is full on grit. I don't know most of her music but the "no grit" claim is a dead giveaway of someone who has no idea what he's talking about.

BTW, have you seen how many colleges are now offering classes on her music? How many colleges had classes on the music of Boys to Men? I'm guessing not many.

Popularity doesn't mean quality. In the medium she's in(pop) it often doesn't. I'm comparing her to artists who were popular like she is in the past, nothing more nothing less. I don't see how comparing her to popular artists when I was young, when my parents were young, is 'get off of my dad blasted lawn'. I didn't go into younger generations because there wasn't any musicians that immediately came to mind, in train of the conversation going on with others. Yes I am sure she is a talented lyricist. I've listened to some of her lyrics. That alone doesn't define talent for me. Grit is stylistic and musical as well as lyrical.

There are less serious artists in every generation. And popularity for a long period does not qualify as excellence. Celine Dion has been around for a long time and has been popular for a long time. I don't respect her musical talent either. Their are musicians I don't care to listen to, but I respect their musical talent. She is not one of them. I would rather listen to Kate Bush or Macy Gray, or Corinne Bailey Rae for instance. Sue me.

As far as me not having young women around me, why would you immediately take that from my dislike of her? You seem to be implying this is a misogynistic thing? Or that I don't relate to things a woman(young) would. That's rather amusing seeing as how for most of my young childhood I was raised by a single mother without any brothers and sisters. I have interests and sensibilities that are sometimes on the feminine side because of that. I have female cousins,(almost my age) nieces, great nieces, and friends(some nearly 10 years older than me, and some who are male) that like her. That doesn't change my opinion. I didn't listen to music of this type when I was young, nor did most of my female friends. My dislike of her does not imply I don't understand problems young women face. You seem to be taking my aversion to her personally?

I'm leaving this here, because I've devoted way more time thinking about her(in composite) during this thread, than I have since she released her first album. Just one for the road, I can't stand KPop either. That sucks out loud. No matter whether somebody comments on this today or four months from now, I won't respond back. I refuse to focus my brain cells on Kpop for more than 30 seconds.

It's just my taste in music. It's not fact for the world.

I listen to old man music and Taylor Swift is not on my playlist but I have visibility to her through a teenage daughter. I do agree that many "sophisticated" music fans, especially those of a certain gender and age, tend to diminish her talent and career because her target audience is younger women, who those "sophisticated" fans do not view as being equally serious. But she holds pretty much every streaming record there is. And her last album release, timed at midnight to protect the streaming services, still crashed Spotify. She resonates at an artistic and emotional level with many, many millions of fans in a way that no other current artist does.
She connects with her fans in a deep way. My three teen daughters are devoted.

She is a no flash in the pan!

We finally have agreement! "I don't like it" =/= "she has no talent". It IS possible for both of these to be true: you don't like her music and she has enormous talent.

Completely unrelated, turns out TS was the only celebrity approached by FTX for an endorsement to do enough diligence to understand that it was illegal. She's created a hell of a business and apparently is pretty sophisticated.

Taylor Swift Was Apparently the Only Celeb Too Smart to Fall for FTX

I knew someone was missing from Clinton-fest in the Bahamas... ( i say that because i was at the Baha Mar the same week all the investors were there and WJC was with them.. ) ..

Another huge price drop for concert tickets.

Sideline section that had been selling for $123.50 are now down to $53.50. They may sell some now.

I think the problem with this hair band show has been very little promotion. I got a couple of emails from the school early on but that’s been about it. It doesn’t bode well for future shows in the stadium when ticket prices have been slashed by two-thirds.

They should have rented some of those light up billboards like BOK Center did for Aerosmith. That show was a virtual sellout (except for back stage) in just a few hours. The few remaining tickets with a view start at over $300 and will probably all be gone soon.

This and the fact that it is going to searing hot at that time of year.

This has become comical. It’s Concert Week at Ticketmaster and you can now buy tickets to the show for $25 all in. Now through May 16.

Cheese wrappers are next.
I’m guessing if you live in a major city it’s now cheaper to buy a plane ticket and a ticket to the Tulsa show than it is to buy just a ticket to your local show.

We go to a lot of shows and usually have a pretty good idea on which need to be bought in advance and which can wait until day of.

I completely missed on this one though. This tour was the hottest thing out there last summer and now they can’t give them away. Everyone must be saving up to send their kids to see Taylor Swift.

At least we got that one for 49 bucks the day before the show when others were paying 500 for the same seats. I guess we broke even.

If you paid $49 for Taylor Swift tickets for your wife and daughter and didn’t have to go to the show, that my friend is a trifecta you will never see again. Husband of the Year, Father of the Year, while getting to enjoy a beer and a quiet home alone. Bravo.

Oh no, they got me a ticket too. For that price it was worth it just to visit areas of AT&T stadium that I would never be allowed in during a football game.

We self upgraded to standing room only inside the stadium club and had the whole show right in front of us. Those areas are for members only for Cowboy games.

That weirdo Barrister who used to post here several years ago would have probably enjoyed it, but that’s all I’m saying on that topic.

I know this is going to sound really dumb, and I dont know how to explain it, but I'd rather buy a $75 ticket, than a $50 ticket with $25 in fees.

Concert tickets are now 4 for $80 all-in through August 1 with Ticketmaster’s Summer’s Live promotion.

It looks like over half of the available tickets have now been sold. Students will have returned to campus by then and I’ve got a feeling that they will be begging them to head over to the show.

My wife looked at tickets today and saw some for $35 each, but after you add in all the fees, 2 tickets would be well over $100.

I stopped by the school this morning to drop off some stuff at the fraternity house. That stage is noticeably taller than the Case Center behind it and is quite impressive. Looking forward to a good show tomorrow.
Why on earth is the stage so tall? Those old-timers probably have a fear of heights like me.

Oh man, Tower Guy is on his way. Probably sit up there for a whole week.
Strangely enough, I saw an ad a few days ago looking to hire tower climbers. Apparently that's a job. I'd think the job would be more about what you do when you're at the top of the tower but I guess the climbing is the key part.

I remember seeing Alice Cooper at the Convention Center during my senior year of high school in 1973. 50 years later, here he is again. They did a fake guillotine act to climax the 1973 show. He may actually look healthier today.

Anybody on here go what size crowd did they have ?

The stadium was pretty full, much better than the ticket sakes looked even a couple of weeks ago. Lots of fans on the hillsides and just a few areas of scattered open seats in the corners.

Traffic was backed all the way to the Harvard/244 off-ramp about 45 minutes before showtime. I saw cars from as far away as Kentucky.

Concession lines were very long and slow. They’ll need to work on that if they try this again. They really needed more stands selling just beer. Beer was $14 for a 25 oz can with Michelob Ultra or Busch Lite as the only options.

Alice Cooper took the stage right at 5:45 and put on a very good show. Having a backup band of musicians half his age or less worked very well. And yes, the guillotine and boa constrictor did make an appearance.

Motley Crue was up next at 7:15 and were much better than I expected. Those two dancer sure were distracting, but in a good way. Tommy Lee reminds me of a 15 year old kid. He just wants to bang on his drums and coax the ladies to lift their shirts, many of which were eager to comply.

Def Leppard was the closer at 9:15 and was exceptional. They did seem to crank the volume up noticeably louder than the first two groups. I’m sure the neighbors will be calling their city councilor in the morning trying to put a stop to this nonsense.

Next up is Billy Joel/Stevie Nicks at Arrowhead on Saturday.

Carson and TU tweeted that they'd like to do about 4-6 concerts like this a year. Maybe we can get Garth to come do a week of shows here. He did a set at the old Drillers' stadium in the mid 90s. I worked the beer wristband stand during those so I got a week of free concerts and it's probably the only reason I like Garth Brooks.

The last time I saw Garth, he was sitting on the floor in Home Depot late on night rummaging through a box of extension cords. He was frustrated that he couldn’t find what he was looking for and no one was around to help. Several employees were at the end of the aisle peeking around the corner but were afraid to approach him.

I told the group on the way out that the guy down there needs some help. Hopefully one of them got brave enough to assist.
