Blankenship can coach some prep ball

Bill lost me when he hired his kid who couldn't cut it in the high school ranks. No doubt he loves TU and was placed under some difficult circumstances but he made some arrogant bone head decisions.
I agree that hiring his son was a terrible decision if for nothing else than optics after a failed season. What was actually funny was that the offense improved quite a bit during Bill's last season (with Keevan and Dane), it ended up being the defense that tanked the team.

Arrogant. Key word.

I really don't know why we are even talking about this anymore. Babe the Blue Ox still has a hard on for him I guess.
Its a coping mechanism to overcome the loss to Toledo.

The Muskogee team that the kid coached was probably the worst 6A team I've seen play in several years.

Owasso coach Bill Blankenship coaches on Union’s visiting sideline for the first time after leading the Redskins to three state titles. What a difference a year makes. There was no buzz surrounding this game before Union’s 59-3 win last September. This year, this is a matchup between the top teams in Class 6AI, as Union is ranked No. 1 and Owasso No. 2. The crowd is expected to be more than 12,000 — more than attended the Union-Jenks game earlier this month. - Tulsa World

I'm hoping this game is as good as it seems it should be!
I'm excited!

I had no idea it was 15 degrees cooler on the south side of Tulsa ...

Tickets are available online at StateChamps.com

They generally only have two windows open at the visitors ticket booth at Union-Tuttle which can lead to some really long lines. They're expecting the visitor side to be more crowded than the home side this week.

For the love of all that is HOLY. NO ONE CARES.

You know it's a rough year when we have TU fans who are more excited about a coach who ruined a decade of success, who now coaches hs, than what's going on with our own team this year.

Hey Babe the Blue Ox, I have a HUGE idea for you:

How about instead of pretending to be a TU fan and passively aggressively implying your want Blankenship back, you go be the water boy or team trainer for Owasso....maybe...THEN JUST MAYBE..you'll be able to get close enough to BILL to give him a little tug before each game.

Wow, you may just be the easiest person to rile up on this entire board, and that's saying something.

Please don't question my support of Tulsa football. I've been around here a lot longer than you have and will probably still be here after you're gone. I'll post what I want until the mods tell me to stop or move it to another board. Since the board mod seems interested in the game Friday, I doubt either of those things will happen.

And to be perfectly clear: I don't want Bill Blankenship back at Tulsa, he's fine where he's at. I'm just happy for a fellow alum who happens to now be working where my kids attend school. That's it.

The board Mods seem interested in the game? That's an interesting conclusion. Sure Bill is a TU alumn, but after dragging TU's name thru the mud after we fired him...I don't even really feel the need to talk about him anymore.

You've been around SO LONG that you must know so much more than me. Why? Because they played in leather helmets when you watched? La de frickin da. Just because a few people on the board don't clown you like I do when you bring up a high school game doesn't mean they care about it. This thread dies until you feel the need to talk about where to buy high school tickets or how many people are expected. I would rather watch re runs of King of Queens than watch a high school game.

But I'm sure when Owasso wins this next week you'll be back on here saying "OWASSO'S SUPER DUPER COOL OFFENSE DESTROYS BIXBY!"

YAY.

The board Mods seem interested in the game?

Yea, I'm interested.

I live in Owasso, I know kids on the varsity team, my son plays 8th grade, and I've coached youth ball for a while.

If you have any interest in HS football in OK then Friday's game has to pique your interest.

I don't think it's as much about the game as it is the passive aggressive attitude toward TU and fans who don't care for Bill. Also, the "I've been around longer than you" crap is a huge copout to make it seem like some opinions are more valid than others.

It's not hard to see what you're trying to do here.

I'm more interested in the Noble - Coweta matchup.. but.. it's a personal choice.

Union officials are urging fans to take advantage of advance ticket sales for Friday's football showdown against Owasso.

“We are telling people to get their tickets early as we are expecting a sellout for Friday’s football game,” associate director of athletics Steve Dunlap said in an email.

“These two schools have played great games in the past, but this just might be the most anticipated game (in the series),” Dunlap said, adding that “13,000 or more” are expected to attend.

Union is the defending 6A Division I champion and the No. 1-ranked Redskins and No. 2 Rams are both 4-0 overall and 1-0 in District 6AI-2 play.

The game also matches the winningest coaches in Union history, Owasso first-year coach Bill Blankenship and current Redskins boss Kirk Fridrich.

Blankenship guided the Redskins to 154 wins and three state titles over 14 seasons (1992-05). Fridrich, who assisted on Blankenship’s Union staff for nine years (1993-01), has won 121 games and five state titles in his first 11 seasons at the helm. He was also head coach at Owasso in 2006, going 10-3 and leading the Rams to the playoff semifinals.

I also can read the Tulsa paper...I don't need you to post blurbs on here. You and your little buddies need to start a text chain so as not to pollute the board with this crap.

Wouldn't it be awesome if you focused this much energy on TU?

Fortunately, I'm able to support both programs. I'll be in the stands on Saturday afternoon holding out hope for a win. I was terribly disappointed last week, both in the crowd size and the loss. I'm afraid that the kickoff time had a lot to do with the crowd and we didn't get as many walk participants to stay for the game as we had expected.

Even though we played poorly, I still expected a win up until that interception.

Well we had an 11 page thread on this board last fall that centered mostly on high school band competitions. Don't push me or I'll fire one of those babies up for this season.

I'd rather talk band than bill Blankenship any day.

You're on. You can see two of the top 25 marching bands in the nations perform on Friday night. Anyone who wants to attend in person needs to plan ahead, it's gonna be crowded.

You can also see an Owasso athlete and probably a few from Union that have Tulsa football offers.

Ok guy, you win. You clearly have zero idea where we're coming from. So go on and enjoy your hs football game with your idol coaching.

Just keep in mind the whole time you're watching that that individual ruined a decade of success and blamed it on TU when his nepotism bit him in the ass. I for one don't care for people who tend to drag my alma mater through the mud, but I guess you're one of the few special cases who enjoys that type of thing.

The last point I'll make is one that I made earlier. It would be fantastic if you put this much energy promoting TU in non-TU sports venues in owasso like you're doing here. Do you get in all the hs message boards and get in arguements about how great of a coach Montgomery is? I doubt it.

Anyway, you can sit back in your easy chair and enjoy a nice diet rite cola and giggle in your relaxed fit jordache dad jeans that you sure stuck it to some TU fans.

Hope you got your tickets early. But I'd be willing to bet the GHC would be a better place to put your money as opposed to bill...

Man, I'm afraid that you've stuck me with some hidden agenda that simply doesn't exist. I'm not sure how you misinterpreted that. I don't know you, but I'd stack my support of the University and the Hurricane club against just about anyone. My family and I have held season football tickets in the same section since the 1950's and have been regular contributors to the Hurricane Club during that time. Some family members have held officer positions in the club but I haven't. I only go back to the F.A. Dry days, but I have attended virtually every home football game since then. I do remember Blankenship when he played QB but I preferred David Rader. I will miss the Memphis game this year as it's on Senior night and I'm expected to be on the high school field as an escort. I'm very opposed to TU games on a Friday but that's a topic for another day.

I also volunteer my time to the Future Owasso Rams youth sports organization and have known many of the current seniors since they were in 3rd grade, well before the current coaching staff was in place. One of those seniors has an offer from Tulsa and I hope he accepts it. And yes, I am very happy for them as they've had it rough the past couple of years. I'll be at the games on both Friday and Saturday. 2 of my kids are performing on Friday evening. I've spent most of this evening trying to find enough players to put together a 9th grade basketball team. As the boys get older, they start having conflicting priorities and it's becoming harder and harder to field a decent team.

It's crazy to think that if Union hadn't mis-hired Kevin Wright 10 years ago, Kirk Fridrich would probably still be in Owasso and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

And let the record show that I wouldn't be caught dead in Jordache pants and have never tried a diet drink. Fair enough?

I really don't get why people are getting so been out of shape on this. You have just as much right to post something as anybody else, if they don't like it, they don't have to read it

Thanks Rising. You know, I've read back through this thread again and still don't see where I even remotely implied that Coach Blankenship was my idol, that I wanted him back or that he got a bad deal at TU. If you can point if out to me I would appreciate it.

If anything, the original intent was to show that he's at the right level now. I was extremely critical when he hired his son here, not only becaus of the nepotism but also because the kid's Muskogee teams were probably the worst coached and definitely the worst disciplined that I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot.

That being said, the coach is a fellow alum and I'm glad that he's doing well. I'm also happy for the kids and the community. They had a tough past couple of years and now they seem to be getting it.

How about we talk about the Navy game. We have a home game on Saturday and not a single thread about it.

It's one thread , it's not that hard to skip over it instead of having a meltdown over it , no I don't want Bill Blankenship back as head coach and am glad he is not here anymore. No, I am not a fan of what he said after he left, but more than likely he said those things out of hurt. He loved TU and he was fired from his dream job. Most of us would probably say something too. Just because his last two seasons were bad does not make Blankenship evil.
