📝 Larry Lewis Recap: Tulsa falls to Tulane in OT

Tulsa still hasn't found a way to win in conference play, which ruined a breakout performance by Matt Reed. Reed had career highs of 13 points and 16 rebounds off the bench, and P.J. Haggerty had 25 points. But missed free throws down the stretch doomed TU in a gut wrenching 94-87 loss to Tulane Sunday afternoon in front of an announced crowd of 2,907 fans at the Reynolds Center on a snow-bound day which limited fan attendance.

🏈 Recruiting Official visitors for weekend of 1-12-24

Tulane BB tickets

I came so close to attending my first game at the Reynolds Center on 1/14. Unfortunately we won’t be able to make the trip to Tulsa. If I can figure out how to transfer our two tickets in section 114 to someone who could use them I’ll be happy to do so. Message me if you’re interested.

Game Thoughts -UNCC

Where to start?

zero energy for the majority of the first half of the game. That’s unacceptable and I hope we’re doing something to address that. We HAVE to come out of the gate with our pants on fire and play like we’re down 10 to start the game.

Garcia just isn’t getting it done. He hit some shots down the stretch when we were down 20, but contributed minimally when it meant something. Idk if he’s just out of position, if it’s a mental thing, or if other teams have just figured him out.

Barnes has to be better. We can’t rely solely on PJ to do everything every night.

That said, Charlotte is a terrible matchup for us. Their size killed us on the boards and their experience took over.

Of course they had some scrub on the bench hit a ton of 3s in the first half. Somehow that always happens to us.

Finally on the little scuffle at the end, that was 100% instigated by the Charlotte players talking crap right in our guys face at the buzzer. He wouldn’t stop either… tried to run at us even after everyone had been separated.

F them.

Haggerty

He was named the AAC Frosh of the Week for the 5th time this season. That’s almost every week. He’s 2nd in scoring, 2nd in steals and 15th in free throw percentage. If he keeps this pace up he’ll win Frosh of the Year and most likely 1st team all conference.

We’ll need a great game by him (and the team) tonight to have a chance of a win. We’ve been tied with less than a minute to go in our last 2 losses. Rebounding, or a lack of it, is killing us, especially on the offensive end. I hope the guys get a shoe on their back side before the tip-off tonight.

Bowl Season 2023

Today we start the Bowl Season off with 7 Games. AS I write this two of them are already finished.

Myrtle Beach Bowl
Georgia Southern and Davis Brin took on Ohio. Brin had 350 yards passing but wasnt enough to beat Ohio as they fell 41-21

Cricket Celebration Bowl

Howard took on Florida A&M in the bowl set for the HBCU's. Florida A&M edged out Howard 30-26

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl - ESPN (In Progress)

Jacksonville state, one of the two teams that made the transition from FCS earned a way in after a spot opened due to not enough FBS teams becoming bowl eligible. They are taking on Louisian Ragin Cajuns

Avocados from Mexico Cure Bowl - ESPNNEWS (In Progress)

Miami of Ohio is taking on the Mountaineers of Appalachian State.

Isleta New Mexico Bowl - ESPN - 4:45 p.m.

New Mexico state vs Fresno State

Starco Brands LA Bowl - ABC - 6:30 p.m.

UCLA vs Boise State

Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl - ESPN - 8:15 p.m.

California vs Texas Tech

GAMES OF INTEREST (1.7.24-1.9.24) @ EAST CAROLINA

ITS GAMEDAY!!!! Tulsa men travel to Greenville, NC to take on the East Carolina Pirates at Minges Coliseum. This is a chance to get the first road win. They travel down the road to Charlotte on Wednesday. Yesterday we had a shocker as Charlotte beat FAU at home by 2. SMU has even moved ahead of Memphis in the NET as the tigers drop another 7 spots. I have to record the game as I will be in Maryland watching the Commanders vs Cowboys.

Big Winners yesterday on the NET were Charlotte (Up 17) and UTSA (Up 11). We had a lot of big losers Tulane (Down 13) Rice (Down 26) with Temple and Rice (Down 7). In the Rest of the GOI Missouri State took a fall (Down 18) after losing by 22 at Bradley. I am sure things were abnormal in Normal. Oral Roberts took a hard fall (Down 21) losing at home to Weber State 83-78 which is surprising they took that big a fall since Weber State was an 89 in the NET. I am sure they had some help falling that hard.

Today’s games

We have an AAC only GOI today.

Full Schedule is below

AND ONE

FAU has dropped 2 out of the last 3 games. Losing to Florida Gulf Coast and now Charlotte. In true road games the Owls are 0-2. Three other teams in the conference have not won a rad game besides FAU. Those teams are Tulsa, South Florida, and East Carolina who Tulsa faces today. FAU is currently sitting with 2 Quad 4 losses and those are to Florida Gulf Coast and Bryant. The Charlotte Loss is only a Q2 loss for the owls as it was on the road. If Charlotte starts to lose games then it can go down to a Q3 loss.
