Tournament of champions

Spent afternoon watching Edmond north and TO Barrett play matched up against Bartlesville and David Castillo. Both PG’s and both teams played man d. Barrett dominated. I know Castillo national ranking but TO looked much better. Tulsa was Barrett first division 1 offer but he seems to be fixated on OU, OSU or Missouri.
Just confirmed to me how the national rating services are so biased and not totally reliable

TPS HS TofC

Was played this last Wednesday-Friday. This tournament takes some of the best from all classes in OK HS basketball and pits them against each other. In an absolute stunner, Dale (2A) won the tournament with victories over 6A Union, 4A Crossings Christian (?), and 5A Tulsa Memorial. We know what Union and Memorial are in terms of being among the best in the state and Memorial is usually one of the best in the state regardless of class. Crossings Christian beat Edmond Memorial, another of the good 6A schools in the 1st round. Apparently Dale has a Jimmy Chitwood type of stud named Dayton Forsyth who had 34 pts and 10 rebounds in the final over Memorial. The HC at Memorial compared Forsyth to Keiton Page.

Seem the judge thinks he can make his own rules, overreach?

📝 Larry Lewis Game Recap -- Tulsa blown out by #3 Houston, 89-50

As ugly as the game was for Tulsa against No. 3 Houston, sadly, it was completely expected. The Cougars showed why they are a juggernaut, destroying TU 89-50 Wednesday night in front of 4,807 fans at the Reynolds Center.

T.U. Santa Christmas List

1. Coaches that know Texas like the back of their hand.
2. A couple of under the radar Juco players.
3. Two super senior lineman. One for each side of the ball.
4. A portal linebacker that’s tougher than battery acid and mean as a snake.
5. A portal D lineman that’s been buried on a power 5 depth chart that’s ready to step up.
6. That zero star “diamond in the rough” high school player that’s an outlier.

A city leader and a T.U. leader, Rick Dickson, that want to collaborate with like minded people in the city for an indoor arena for a variety of sports, including a place for T.U. Football to practice indoors.

Games of Interest (12.21.22-12.27.22) Loyola Marymount

ITS GAMEDAY!!!

Today Tulsa Men travel to California to take on the Loyola Marymount Lions. This is our last Non Conference game of the season. We open Conference play on Dec 28.

Only one big change in the NET. Temple who was a 180 dropped 22 spots after losing by 8 at home to University of Maryland Eastern Shore who was a 305 NET.

Todays games

Detroit mercy travels to Cincinnati which should be a good game
High Point is at East Carolina. They are fairly even on the NET so this could be a good game as well.
Houston is taking on some cannon fodder in McNeese before the start of conference play.

And One

The winter storm that has come through the northern states this week has postponed or cancelled 4 games today. The one that impacts this thread is the South Dakota vs Oral Roberts game. The SDSU and ND games were also postponed.

Also Hall of Famer and hero of the Immaculate reception Franco Harris passed away today. His number is supposed to be retired this weekend in Pittsburgh during a ceremony on the 50th anniversary of that game.

GO TU!!!!

Back When

The idea that Tulsa football can be successful focusing on NE Oklahoma recruiting is a myth. You need that core group of players, but you can't win recruiting "on a tank of gas."

Basketball, on the other hand, is another story. Once upon a time, you could have put together a team that would have won the national championship, if we would have had a coach that could connect with the city.

I can't speak for today, but if we would have kept three, maybe four of the guys on this list, and stayed off probation, what a year 1990 or 1991 would have been. How many guys went to the pros off this list? At a glance I can spot 3, maybe 4. But look at the names below those guys. We could have put together a pretty darn special team. Yet we only signed one. And he was a transfer.
