There are many similarities between the current state of the US union and the Ukraine (old Ukrainian Republic in the Soviet Union). Here are a few.
1. A Republican form of govt with a President who has seized strong authority over the legislature i.e. concentrated power in the executive
2. Monetary instability created by fiscal ineptitude in the economy resulting in inflation, devaluation, waste, fraud, abuse
3. Open political corruption
4. Election fraud and intimidation
5. The govt "monitoring" speech
6. Political unrest resulting in political instability and a rise in anti- govt factions
7. A population rejecting religion and growing atheism and secularism
8. An affluent political class that makes the rules
9. A secretive authority with police powers to surveil the populace, espeically those they view as enemies
10. A press that is mostly pro govt with little political debate
In my view, these instances of rebellion are always caused by a govt that is too big, too intrusive, too tyrannical and too self serving.
