Tulsa softball

I was expecting us to close the season around 6-3. If we get lucky tomorrow we'll close it at 3-6. Apparently all we are capable of is beating the non competitive conference mates. We are 0-8 against Charlotte, North Texas, and FAU. Can't see us beating FAU tomorrow, considering a win by them wraps up the first seed, and the regular season championship. They have little more to fight for than their pride. Oh well.

Girls lost their 4th straight today. Pitching has been a struggle down the stretch giving up an average of 8 runs per game over the last 4. Have some holes which need to be filled as well as an overall roster upgrade

Tulsa puts a 6 spot up in the top of the 5th, up 8-4 heading to the bottom of 5th against Wheat Shockers.

Our pitching has been down right atrocious over the last several weeks.
Poor defense lost this one, 5 unearned runs on 2 fundamental throwing errors lead to the 6 run outburst by WSU in the bottom of the 5th. Back in the 4th the 3B and SS colliding on a routine foul pop lead to another unearned run for WSU.

Defense has been an issue all season. I'm not sure I saw more than a couple of errorless defensive outings all season and that's an issue and puts a lot of extra pitches on the pitchers.

Maybe but we are 114th in the country in team ERA. That will not get it done if we have NCAA tourney aspirations.

We blew that lead but the umpire blew one that really hurt us Strimple was really mad you could read her lips she said it was bull :crap:.

Let's start with a coaching up

I know I'm a little late to the conversation. The throw from the 3rd baseman to catcher wasn't a bad throw.

For all those wanting a coaching upgrade.
The issues with softball are bigger than the Coach. Why do you think Bargfeldt moved on. Start with the 3 issues I listed below. If you surveyed all the softball coaches, players and support staff in the Conference to compare all the schools in the AAC we would be in the bottom tier of all 3 issues. (Bottom tier = Worst in the Conference)
Take a look at Wichita State and North Texas, Tulsa isn't keeping up.
  • Budget/Support from Athletic Department/Administration
  • Facilities
  • Social Media/marketing in the 21st century (this matters to kids these days)
The new AD has a lot on his plate before he gets to softball unfortunately.

PS. Last years team was the 3rd/4th best hitting team in Tulsa's history.

Tulsa has the same issues in practically all non-Olympic sports on campus imo We want to win but it isn’t the priority. Signing kids who we at least break even with regarding the cost of attendance is a very real thing at TU at the moment in these sports

2025 Softball season is ready to start this weekend at Sam Houston in Huntsville, TX. Good luck Ladies!

First game Texas A&M Corpus Christi Friday at 11:30am.

***Any chance Tulsa athletics/softball could get their Record and Fact Book updated? Last one on webpage is 2023. Most schools have their 2025 media guide books coming out now. Ex. North Texas.

Are you able to give us a quick rundown on this years squad?

Maura Moore returns on the mound. Maura is very good. Alexa Hopkins returns and Brinly Maples transferred in from McLennan Community College in Waco. I'm guessing those 3 will eat up most of the innings. They have another transfer from Colorado and a freshman from California, so there is depth. Hopefully Moore gets some help from the others.

Position Players: Return 3 everyday players from last year and 1 transfer that has played a lot.

Claira Skaggs will be at 3rd again, Claira had a very good year last year. Hit .331 last year and has a career .276 average.

Celeste Wood returns, sounds like she's moving to the outfield after spending last year at 1st base. Hit .221 last year and a career .238 hitter. Celeste having a good season at the plate will be needed. Both Claira and Celeste are 3 year starters.

Maci Cole will be moved to the middle infield after getting most of her starts last year at catcher. Maci, will start off somewhere at the top of the lineup, .269 last year after transferring from Junior College. Maci's versatile and can help the team anywhere Strimple needs her.

Paige Knight transferred in from New Mexico State and Oklahoma her freshman year. 1st base or DP. Middle of the line up kid, has hit well at her previous schools.

Faith Russell returns from medically redshirting last year and will play 2nd base. Left handed hitter that will be at top of line up with Maci, had a good fall at the plate.

Danielle Burns 1st or DP. Danielle has been in the program for 3 years but not a lot of AB's.

Have 5 freshman that should see time, 2 may start in the outfield. Annika Dill from Poteau is one to watch. Showed some good game in the fall, especially at the plate. Brookley Foster from Owasso should see time in middle infield. She was out with knee injury most of fall, hopefully she's good to go. Amber Turner will likely do most of the catching with Emma Vickrey medically redshirting with a lingering shoulder issue. 3-4 freshman may be starting Friday.

Team will not have the speed they've had the last couple of years.

Go Canes!

Thanks. Do you have a daughter on the team? I promise we won’t talk trash about her :)
