TU Softball - Week 8

[Tax Guy]

This weekend's conference matchup is at home vs. UTEP

Saturday's double header starts at 3:00pm 1st game is TV game on FSN
Sunday's finale is at noon.

Tuesday Wichita State comes to Tulsa, followed by Central Arkansas on Wednesday. Both at 5:00pm

Game 1

UTEP had 1 hit 0 Errors and 1 LOB
Tulsa had 7 hit 0 Errors and 5 LOB

Jill Barrett was 2 for 3 scored 1 and walked once
Catherince Horner was 1 for 3 with 3 RBI

Aimee Creger pitched the complete game with 1 hit and 0 walks and 17 K

Tulsa got to the UTEP pitcher and she got frustrated with some illegal pitch calls and gave up the 6 runs all in the first inning. After that was able to keep Tulsa in check.

Game 2

Tulsa 6

UTEP had 5 hits 1 error and 8 LOB
Tulsa had 8 hits, 1 error and 6 LOB

Jill Barrett was 3 for 4 and scored once.
Jodi Edmiston was 1 for 3...a grand slam HR!

Caitlin Sill pitched 5 innings giving up 3 hits 2 walks and had 1 K
Bailey Erwin pitched 2 innings giving up 2 hits 0 walks and 0 K.

It was fun to see it on TV. She had them swinging at air all day.

These ladies don't just beat other teams, they dominate them generally by shutting them out. That wasn't the case even last year, and that team was very good.

Shelby Blanton was 2 for 3 with a HR scored twice and 2 RBI
Erica Sampson was 2 for 3 with a dboule and scored twice and 1 RBI
Julie Kernen was 2 for 3 with a double scored once with 3 RBI
Cierra Hughes was 2 for 2 with a HR scored twice and 3 RBI
Jodi Edmiston was 1 for 2 with a HR scored once and 2 RBI

Aimee Creger ptiched the 5 innings giving up 1 walk and had 12 K

Bats exploded in the 1st inning scoring 10 runs

Jill Barrett broke the TU career hits record with a single in the first. She now has 284 career hits.

Any more softball on tv in the future? Missed the game spending all the time on the road between home and M D Anderson.

From everything I've read about the stats, Aimee Creger is averaging just about 2 K's per inning. That is an astonishing stat. Jill Barrett....ridiculously good. I haven't seen much else in the way of C-USA stats or standings...is there anyone in the conference this year that can even challenge TU? Last year they jumped out to a fantastic start and hit a wall with about a month left in the season. The pitching and hitting depth this year tell me there might not be a wall high or hard enough to slow this team down.

There are not any other regular season games on a TV Schedule but wouldn't be surprised to see that change, and I'm sure when tournaments start in May we'll see some more.

17th in the Coaches, and 16th in the writers poll.
20th RPI

Jill Barrett's Batting Average is .504 ranking her 5th
Bailey Eriwin's ERA is .97 ranking 10th
Aimee Creger's ERA is .99 ranking at 11th
Aimee Creger's strike out total is now 195 ranking 3rd. The others in the top 5 have 21 to 50 more innings to get there.

Team Batting Average is .348 ranking 2nd
Team ERA is 1.07 ranking 4th
Only one other team is in the the top 10 of both.

Creger's numbers ranking 3rd in the # of innings she has pitched is astounding, especially considering the others in the top 5 and their innings. It's also a testament to the quality pitching depth TU has. The girl from OU last year pitched like every game or close to it.

RPI took a hit this week while winning all 3 games. Tell on how bad the majority of C-USA teams are.

Tulsa had 10 hits 1 error and 2 LOB

Jill Roye was 1 for 2 with a 4 RBI (grand slam) HR
Catherine Horner was 1 for 2 with a 2 RBI HR
Haley Henshaw was 2 for 2 witha 2 RBI HR

That was 8 runs via HR all in the 3rd inning.

Central Arkansas scored 2 in the 5th, but no worries...

Cierra Hughes who was 3 for 3 on the night hit a 2 RBI HR in the bottom half for the run rule walk-off.

Bailey Erwin pitched 5 innings giving up 2 runs, 1 ER on 5 hits 2 walks and had 3 K.
Also defensively for Tulsa. After Bailey had the 2 walks in the 4th, but no worries...
it looks like the hit and run was on and lined into Tulsa's first Triple Play! Check it out at link.
