Transfer portal 2023

Speaking of ... what's the big construction project on the river around 21st? Looks like paths and fake rock formations in the riverbed?
So they are redoing the low water dam to make a lake between 21st and the Gathering Place, along with a new pedestrian crossing bridge across the river to the west bank trails.

Interesting, thanks. The pedestrian bridge will be nice.

There was an uproar when they tore the old one down and people didn't even care that several engineers deemed it extremely outdated and unsafe
It would have been nice to refurbish it to a safe level, just too costly. It was like a historical building that was too expensive to refurbish. I was upset when they tore down the sixth street bridge/tunnel in the same way. They tore something down that meant something to me.

Yeah, my wife knows more about it but essentially the stanchions in the river that supported the bridge were the problem, something about them not being secure in the bedrock under the river bed and thus easier and safer to replace than trying to retrofit them.

I enjoy looking at loca's posts about the transfer portal. I was worried that we still have so many scholarships after signing day but his post shows that the majority of the transfer portal has not signed with other teams yet. How will this shake out? Do we keep picking up players over the summer to fill these slots? Is there a date that we have to have the roster filled? At that point do we load up on scrubs just to fill the roster?

It's still early in the process. It'll happen over the rest of the spring and summer likely. We won't just load up on scrubs, we just got rid of a bunch of them.

Last year we signed Betson and Selebangue in May. I think it will be similar this year.

Yeah if we don't have it down to two or maybe three spots left by mid to late May then it's time to get a little nervous. If we fill 2 or 3 additional scholarships by then, then we're doing ok. Especially if those cover most of the three primary needs.(two bigs w/ at least one being a rim protector, and pg)

Finding 12 schollies in a recruiting season takes time. Look at when Jerome Tang completed his recruiting last year at KSU. It was around August 21 when Tang added Florida transfer Keyontae Johnson, and juco guard Anthony Thomas, to fill his Roster.

There are a few changes this week. With finals coming up I have a feeling that we will have some major movement in the next couple of weeks.

Any word yet on a big man?

Any word that if Konkol nabs a big man that Selebangue will return?

As far as I know he is a shooting Guard. Have not even seen him listed as a combo guard. He certainly is not a point guard.
So the highlights someone posted of one of TCU's early games where they were blowing out whoever and he got plenty of minutes...he certainly played the point for them in a couple of his stints on the floor (maybe a game vs ULM?). Guards who score a ton in HS usually can handle the ball and create their own shots off the dribble. I would suspect we might see him lay some PG when the natural PG is not on the floor.

Here’s a few excepts from articles. He’s definitely a combo guard and played as a pg as well. I have a feeling he’ll backup at pg some next year, along with McWright, unless they sign a true, young pg. I doubt an experienced one will come knowing they’ll get very few minutes behind Williams.

All-Greater Houston boys basketball player of the year: P.J. Haggerty, Crosby

(I couldn’t read all of the article since I wasn’t a subscriber).

P.J. Haggerty is a basketball player born on April 13, 2004 in Crosby (TX). His height is six foot three (1m90 / 6-3). He is a point guard who most recently played for TCU Horned Frogs in NCAA.

P.J. Haggerty is a PG who plays for Fort Bend Ridge Point. Click here to see relevant articles & info on his Prep Hoops player profile.

TCU took one high school recruit this past cycle in combo guard PJ Haggerty from Crosby High School in the Houston area. Haggerty was a highly touted recruit ranked as a top 150 player in his class and a 3 star recruit by 247 sports. Haggerty should bring some much needed ball handling and scoring ability to a TCU squad looking to build on a very successful season.

Playmaking: The gap between high school and college defenses is a large one, especially in terms of team defense (as opposed to individual defenders). Moving from high school to college, Haggerty will see a number of new and more complex defensive schemes as well as better help defense and rotations. Haggerty showed good floor vision in high school in the pick and roll as well as kicking out to shooters when driving and will need to continue to develop that part of his game this offseason.

From the TCU site, stats from his senior year in HS: Averaged 28 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game while shooting 49 percent on 2-point attempts and 41 percent from three…

Stats consistent with a combo guard role. Like the almost 3 steals a game.

I'm so glad he is coming....I can definitely see him making the playing rotation quite early....
His stat lines in HS show that he is a very active player, and that he plays both ends....A
dramatic difference from last season.....

He is listed on the site as a point guard that’s all I am reporting lol
I made a mistake. Everywhere I looked he was listed as a guard or shooting guard. Apparently I didn't look in the right places, and he is a combo guard. I looked at 4 or so places. What site listed him as a point guard?

Side note: I asked this before, to the general public and got no response. I'll ask you specifically this time.

Are you having verbal commits come up less now on your google searches? I could type in a general search on a player or recruit and stuff used to pop up on verbal commits in my google searches.(1 or 2 years ago.) Now it seems On3 has replaced it in the general searches. If I want verbal commits, I seem to have to put verbal commits in the search terms, and even then it doesn't always pop up.

I do get more On3 results than anything else. I have verbal commits bookmarked though as I have used it for a few years but the verbal commits is in the first page of the search engine

My guess is that is a photo from this past season that they've just photoshopped a Wyoming uniform onto. BTW, that :crap: brown color is just awful for a uniform.
Worst color scheme in college athletics. Interesting tidbit re Wyoming…several Tulsa area girls signed with Wyoming to play soccer in their 2023 recruiting class.

Yep. Khari Carreno from Union was one of them. Wonder how her mom is going to deal with that...I'm not sure she's been away from Khair for any appreciable amount of time ever. She's a really good player but I wish Union's girls HC would coach them to play the game vs the kickball they are currently playing. They've struggled to generate offense against better teams because their fastest forward hurt her knee at Edmond North and I don't think she will play again this season. She used to be able to chase down defenders and win the ball and then just created all sorts of problems for teams. Without her Union has struggled because they simply don't work at keeping possession and working the ball into the attack.

He looks extremely happy to be there. 🤣
Who cares, he's gone.

Also, this is a cool story but I was in a twitter discussion with someone about Griffin, and all I said was that unless he's on fire shooting the ball that he struggles to contribute (I promise, I know I've had my moments on here but I'm trying to be a better poster). Well, he sent me a DM saying to keep his name out of my mouth, I probably haven't played at this level before, and then cussed me out. Oh...THEN he blocked me.

Super duper cool guy.
