This is the Democratic Party.

Do you believe Biden cares about optics at this point ? Same guy who swore he wouldn’t pardon Hunter and then not only pardons him for his known crimes but undiscovered crimes for an 11 year period. After what the Dems did to him, Biden doesn’t give a damn and I probably wouldn’t either
All that's left now is for him to refuse to leave the office and pardon himself. Lol.

The Supreme Court's recent precedent has essentially set the stage for a modern day King Charles / Oliver Cromwell situation.

The Supreme Court’s precedent had zero to do with Biden’s ability or decision to blanket pardon a private citizen for known and unknown crimes

Oh I know that. I'm just saying when you give people blanket powers, you can't really be upset when they use them for whatever purposes they deem just. If you don't like the way a president pardons someone, don't give them blanket pardon powers. If you don't like a president not being held accountable to the law.... then don't given them blanket immunity.

The constitution could really use an overhaul to install more protections from corruption and maleficence.

Too much crap is on the honor system. That's why Trump is getting away with a lot of stuff and not much can be done about it. They need to abolish recess appointments for Cabinet positions. They should only be allowed if the reason recess appointments were created for in the first place can be proven to exist at the time. And they need to be proven for each appointment. And whoever judges whether that is actually happening, needs to be given a route to be checked by another branch. We need checks and balances to be emphasized and enstated in more instances than they ever have.

Worst pardon in Presidential history ?

I'd say the Nixon one was the most long-term damaging, honestly. I know nothing about the one you posted, but I'll echo GMoney and say I sure hope that we got something from China in exchange for that one. A lot goes on behind closed doors that we'll never know about.

But there are always pardons that are controversial. I honestly don't care much about Hunter Biden. Billy pardoned Roger Clinton. That was controversial too, but a president pardoning family members for relatively petty offenses is not exactly unprecedented.

It might not be right, but if presented with a power like that, I can't honestly say I wouldn't use it for someone in my family facing jail time for a drug offense or tax problem or what-have-you.

If someone wants to write a constitutional amendment that puts some kind of rudimentary check on that awesome power, I might support it. I like the idea of a president mostly unilaterally being able to correct injustices and release political prisoners which is essentially what it was for. Maybe giving Congress a veto power if 3/4 of Congress disagrees with a particular pardon would be a good check and prevent self-serving pardons? And a ban on pardoning yourself or anyone in your own cabinet?

Looks like the Biden Admin has now pardoned or commuted over 8000 sentences. Including in this is commuting 39 of the 42 current people on death row to life. If the action was due to a position of being against the death penalty I’m not sure why you selectively commute sentences?

if Joe really wanted to do somthing for the good with he last minute EOs, he would eliminate the need for veteran charities like DAV. Wonder Warrior, ... by making these be gov functions where they should be, and let welfare become charity.

Why didn’t Bush do that? He was the one who created most of them…
