This is the Democratic Party.

What an odd framing for that video. It's not at all about "how Democrats run things when they have all the power". It's about how actual policy change in the face of NIMBYism is really hard.

You think inflation (which the rest of the world is dealing with too) is worse than attempting to subvert a 250 year old Republican Democracy? It’s not. Not even close.
An act by a couple 100 idiots with no chance of success versus an economic crisis which affects over 300 million Americans and will result in increased homelessness, deaths, despair…yeah. Millions of Americans lives are going to be financially ruined over the next 18 months. Lose your job in a recession. Not being able to afford food and rent for your family. Buckle up buddy.

For the record, I support all those involved being punish. Trump should not be allowed to run for office again.

For the record, a greater threat to our 250 year old Republican Democracy is the federal government using social media sites to violate its citizens first amendment rights. Any true threat to our republic will start and end with the silencing of dissenting voices. Never thought I would see the day when the federal government would take such actions. Never dreamed I would see the day when so many people would support such actions. People who have comprehensions of the danger of such actions despite a long history of the same. They need to remember, next time it might be the other side silencing them.

another threat is when one political party uses its government offices for politics

You will give people a voice they never had before the internet and social media, and let it be a free for all? We see what that has done to/for Trump, faith in our elections, jan 6, racism, faith in the doj, faith in the SC, etc. We now have more problems with our government than ever before.

I will not support the federal government silencing the speech of those who might disagree with those in charge…and neither should anyone. This is a fundamental foundation on which our democracy is built and is there for protection against tyranny. Again….history provides valuable lessons. Silencing doctors for suggesting Covid originated in a lab is minor compared to the risks associated with a government being able to silence its critics….and there are those who still support this. Crazy

Social media does come with problems. You outlined a few. We also saw our cities burn during the Obama years when lies were spread on the media. Saw cops targeted and murdered due to social media posts calling for the same. Still…free speech is a fundamental right. A government who is enabled to silence its critics is then free to act in any matter it chooses. For the record, speech critical of the DOJ, FBI, law enforcement, criminal Justice system should particularly be protected…as long as said speech doesn’t advocate violence. The reasons are obvious

You limit the scope of that event to a couple 100 people… it wasn’t just a couple hundred people… it was a couple hundred people who were being egged on and lied to by many multiple political pundits, public figures, and politicians… none of whom were ever punished for encouraging such an event. When I say “This is the Republican Party” it’s not the 100 stooges who are the worst of that party… it’s the people at the top who are praying on the stupidity of others for their own gain, to the detriment of Democracy.

Again… inflation isn’t even close to as big of a problem. Hell I would take another Great Depression just to keep the people who tried to subvert Democracy out of office.

And no one is coming for your freedom of speech. Quit whining about what the same people who tried to overthrow democracy a few short months ago tell you to whine about.

How quick people are to forget that the GOP attempted a violent coup and then tried to act like they had nothing to do with instigating it.
The GOP no more attempted a violent coup than the Democrat Party tried to burn down major cities in the summer of 2020 to gain political power.

Everything on both sides of the aisle gets blown way out of proportion, and has for a while now. Social media is a huge cause of that. It's become unbearable for the majority of the country that identifies with the more moderate portion of each party.

Oh no! You've come over to the dark side of the board. Temporarily?

dems, reliance on gov
rep, self reliance
BS. GOP uses the government to fill their pockets and those of their friends. Instead of caring for people they'll toss an extra $2B at the Pentagon to approve another defense contract that will ultimately end up in the pockets of a buddy of theirs. Instead of trying to combat climate change, they'll throw extra money at the oil and gas industry (ultimately run by their friends and donors).

But they're first in line when something bad happens in their district wanting the government to bail them out after railing on socialism. Complete hypocrites.

So.. is that how the Clintons get an estate in the Hamptons, the Obamas get a Marthas Vinyard Estate, Biden gets a besch house in Delaware and the Kennedys have managed to go all these years without honest jobs?

C'mon man, Joe Kennedy got rich bootlegging during prohibition and then running the Irish mafia in Boston. You can make a lot of money that way (and making a lot of other people rich too just to look the other way). And many politicians make plenty of money from their "fame" post-office. I think Bill was charging something like $1M per speaking engagement. Obama is up there too. Their book deals were some of the most lucrative for former Presidents.

And the Kennedy's were different. They were rich before they every got into politics. How they got the $$$ was questionable and they probably used the money to buy their first political offices. But don't forget, both Jack and Bobby served in the military. Hell, Kennedy's PT boat was blown up in the South Pacific so no cushy air national guard post in Alabama for him. And he also married into an extremely wealthy family (the Bouviers) who made their money in real estate and on Wall Street.

They didnt get those deals by not greasing the proper skids..

Both parties have participants that do things like this. Corruption isn't a GOP problem...it's a human problem and happens in both parties. I'm fully aware of the large problems in both the Democrat and Republican parties, so I vote for whichever party is looking to work on issues that are important to me.

Good morning, everyone.

Dark money. By now you’ve heard the term, but may not have known what it meant. If you traveled at all during the election season you saw it in action. Highiy organized and funded by sources you’d rather not know about, their ads had one theme - fear.

And the gullible bought the fear factor in many states. The third party fear ads for Greg Abbott and Kevin Stitt were virtually the same with only the name of the opponent changing depending on the state. And the people bought the lie.

There was a lot of focus on inflation which is a real problem for many people. What these ads failed to say is the fact that inflation is a worldwide problem not caused by policies only in our nation but as a result of a worldwide pandemic and actions taken nearly 3 years ago. Dealing with this inflation calls for coordinated action among nations of the world. One governor or senator or house member will not affect it nor will a political party or nation individually. And the people bought the lie.

During our last visit to Tulsa we visited Greenwood Rising, located in the Greenwood District - the one that was destroyed over a hundred years ago during the massacre that took place. The center speaks to the historical record and what led up to the massacre, history that wasn’t taught over the years. As a result, it is somewhat startling that when I mentioned that we went to the center to visit and someone’s response was “oh, that never happened”. And the people bought the lie.

Putin bought his ads and his allies well. The media are more than willing to receive the money - even reputable stations and not just ones owned by Fox or Sinclair. Most media these days are desperate for dollars in a debt leveraged media economy. So repeating the same lies over and over again is an effective tactic. And the people bought the lie.

What lies ahead? If you’re interested I have attached some information about the history of Willy Brandt and what he experienced during the 1930s in Germany, although he eventually became chancellor of Germany. It is not fun reading.

1978….if you believe more “dark” money supported ads for Stitt opposed to Joy you weren’t paying attention. No clue what happened in Texas other than a double digit win for hot wheels.

I expected Abbott to run away with that race as Beto is done as a viable statewide politician in Texas. 11 points is very close to what I had predicted.

Stitt’s margin frankly shocked me. Expected 5-8 not 14. Dems had a chance but needed a better candidate and campaign. Joy got rolled.

I don't think it proves that the Dems had a bad candidate, I think it proves that Okie Republicans will vote for whomever they are told to vote for.

Thought her campaign was awful. Which I can only attribute to her. As I said before, you have to give the people a reason to vote for you other than “I’m not him”. Running ten versions of the same campaign add was beyond dumb imo. I understand wanting to run up your opponents negatives but at some point you have to give the people a reason why they should vote for you. She never did and it showed. Not often you see a candidate outspent and win by 14.

lol at 1978 posting Hitler stories btw.

"I'm not him" should be sufficient when you're standing next to certain people... you know, criminals, thieves, murders, etc... lol (not that Stitt is a Murderer)
