I went to a high school game yesterday for the first time in 4 years. I didn’t know any player on either team but still had a good time as the game ended in thrilling fashion after 3 overtimes.

It was the most exciting game I’ve seen since the night Zaven Collins intercepted that pass.

Watching football should be fun. These last few years haven’t been fun at all.

I agree. Today’s game should be a fun one. The season is done for both teams but we both have interim coaches with something to prove.

I’m excited to see how the players respond to the interim staff. I hope we see two teams with nothing to lose flying around for the fun of it. Most excited I’ve been for a game since Ark St.

2 years ago one of those teams was in a 6OT game in the semis.

Benjamin will play on Sundays for a little while.
Not sure he has the speed and quickness at 5’8” needed to play in the Association. Add to that he will almost certainly be an undrafted free agent and it’s a tough road to make a 53. Rooting for him though

Switzer said he thinks he will play for a little bit. Just heard that mentioned during the game after I made the comment. Don't know that he'll do more than make the practice team.

High School is the best bang for the buck

In about ‘77 or ‘78 we watched a long haired guy, called them hippies at the time, climb the fence at the top of the west stands. He was able to swing over to the light pole and climb to the top of the press box where he chased about a hundred pigeons off the roof.

Then he went back down the light pole to the ground and disappeared. Awhile later, the same guy ran onto the field and grabbed the game ball while the teams were in their huddles. He tried to make it up the southeast steps but was tackled by the Tulsa cops. Our opponent was West Texas State.

That sequence was more entertaining than this entire season.

Damn hippies.

We way underutilized McGary this season. He’s a very good TE. He’s one of many players that Wilson failed to use correctly.

Will the same OU/OSU fan-idiots who couldn’t understand why we fired Wilson, also not recognize how poorly Wilson utilized this Tulsa TE that OU is now recruiting out of the portal?!

I don't think he was under utilized, I think we didn't have the QB who could work through a progression to find him if he wasn't the primary target on a pass play. That's both due to the ineptness of our QBs and being able to work through a progression AND the problems with the OL being able to give them time to work through. It was pretty apparent that 75% of the pass plays were called with Benjamin as option 1. And as much as I like Francis throwing the ball, it was also apparent that he was not able to work through progressions and read what was coming as quickly as he needed to. I think that was Braxton's issue last year. And with Wilson's supposed strength being as a QB coach the fact that our QBs found it difficult to make a presnap read and adapt was a red flag. What was Wilson doing? Just seeing Braxton play the way he did this year at Marshall, what were our coaches doing to develop and prepare our QBs?

Hopefully this new regime can fix that. We'll need an actual QB to come from the portal. Jackson Arnold is available :) But I also like the kid who is on campus now (FR from Indiana, can't remember his name). And considering every OL player has seemingly left, we will need 10-12 OL right away.

McGary is a stud. Like Hunter Henry capable NFL stud

Agreed. Now I know that Switzer had a tough job as the interim...but the game against FAU looked about as bad as humanly possible...we need to wash our hands of the entire staff.
If the new coach comes in and says he wants Switzer back, that’s cool. But if he has some badass WR coach he likes, bring them in instead.

Do we really want to keep any of the old staff? Honestly?
I don't want the new coach to feel he is obligated to keep anyone but keep them on if he decides they are a good fit for what he is trying to doand they've proven they do a good job. IMO, Switzer has been a star at recruiting HS talent and convincing them that TU is a place they could thrive at. WR and RB were probably the 2 positions we were good at and Switzer had a hand in convincing many of those kids to come here.

We've all seen some young star coaches that our previous coaches have hired and hoped we could hang on to. Gillespie from Monty's staff, I think Switzer falls into that category as well. Even in basketball we've seen them and fans knew they were going to be stars if we could hang on to them long enough (Billy Gillespie, Kim English). There are others.

Again, and it's just my opinion, Switzer is going to be one of those star coaches.

I think our poor OL play would make Mahomes look like a bad QB. We need to start there. I thought KW was an OL guy and that would have been a strength. Apparently not.

Yeah, I'll depend on the new coach to make that call.

Early in the FAU game, Switzer was going up and down the sideline trying to fire the players up. "Let's raise the intensity level" was his suggestion. I don't think a single player even turned to look at him.

Unfortunately at that point in the season and where we were at, many of them checked out completely. Don't think that's on Switzer completely and that game is probably an unfair measurement of Switzer's effectiveness as a leader/coach.

I'm sure he will get another opportunity somewhere based on his last name alone.

Ironically, our new coach said almost the same thing (Football should be fun) during his press conference! He was talking about the players having joy playing the game, but it certainly applies to the fans, too!

I watched the game on ESPN+ and saw Switzer begging Ostroski not to give up, as his body language was showing complete resignation after the 2nd quarter. I feel bad for Owen, he's one of the best players on the team, but what's the point of playing defense if the offense can't pass a kidney stone let alone a forward pass?? Need a coach that DEMANDS better, not encourages better.

McGary and all of our TE’s were open in the middle of the field almost every play we ran that had routes >5yards. We didn’t have a QB worth their salt that even attempted passes over the middle. Francis almost exclusively threw to out routes. Like I’m pretty positive you could go back and do the math that our QBs almost exclusively threw balls towards the sidelines.

Tbf our OLine was almost exclusively underclassmen. There’s talent there but the development is needed and many of those kids were obviously not there yet to take on a starting role.

Why do we feel bad for Owen? Because he's a Tulsa legacy? Should he get special treatment? I honestly think it's kinda ridiculous he entered the portal and is advertising getting offers from such places as South Dakota State and Jacksonville State...clear steps down.

Because he worked his ass off every day, game, was a team leader and great student. He was a major contributor and with a better defensive scheme would have been even more effective. Hope he changes his mind if not I wish him well.

Mostly because our offense was so damn bad. I was hoping he'd have a better experience during his time here because his dad had such success during the 1991 season and I bet he grew up hearing about the 40k plus fans roaring the team on back then... I'm not disagreeing with the core of your comment, but I had a soft spot for the guy when Wilson put such a piss poor product on the field regarding the offense and special teams side of the ball. Senior day was such a travesty...

Calm down a bit. He's just posting them as they come in. Regrettably he got one from Memphis very recently. Don't want to have to play against him in conference.
