What a finish. PJ has to be POG. When we were down 9 I figured we were done.
Missouri state is a good team. Glad the guys fought back to get the win
I went from melting to celebrating in under a minute. Holy hell what a finish!!!
Yes, it does... pure talent can make up for some experience, but playing time matters.
TU 18 for 22, Mo St 4 for 8 and a key miss by an 82% FT shooter. Tulsa did not crack, Mo St did. I hope that carries over to the next stretch run and we don't see another ORU.
If only Monty was coaching our basketball team then we might get a positive comment! We won. Sometimes teams are lucky to win and sometimes unlucky to lose. We won against a good, not great, but good team so let’s celebrate for a few hours.

Regardless of the defense down the stretch, that was a good team we beat, after being down 10 late in the game, making a clutch free throw to seal it, all after playing the worst game of the year last weekend.
Are there things that still need to improve? Obviously - but I think we have a lot more to be pleased with in this win than we do to be upset about.
It speaks to a bigger problem we have. Many other teams won't shoot themselves in the foot like Missouri State did while we are struggling to score and to defend.
So them losing was purely their fault and had absolutely zero to do with us. Got it.
I get it, but he did have a sharp shooter, Willis, and a really good down low guy...with 3 who can score who/how do you guard...gave him more options...but I do agree he has a lot of unforced turnovers.
They make 2 FT's and it doesn't matter what theatrics we land at the end. I just have a more Nick Saban-ish mentality. We shouldn't be ecstatic about playing poorly and being bailed out at the line.
What this reminds me of was overhearing Dane Evans his sophomore year bragging to a bunch of women's soccer players about is theatric 2OT win against Tulane. The team went 1-10 the rest of the way. Sometimes players need to realize that just because chance goes your way today, it doesn't mean it will tomorrow. You have to perform to the best of your ability to make the results on the floor less chaotic and more of a sure thing.
The team got their behinds handed to them by ORU, and OSU and in needed quite a bit of luck to squeak by today. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.
I will say that this team didn't give up which is certainly a positive that you look for in high caliber teams / programs. Now we need that tenacity matched with improved capability.

I’d be more upset about it if we hadn’t made adjustments and/or if it was a lack of effort on that end. The unfortunate reality is that our bigs are a liability on that end. We tried some 1-3-1, we tried some full court press and trap, we switched Barnes onto Clay.
If you hadn’t watched any other games this season and you came in expecting an at-large type of team, then disappointment would be understandable. But given what we’ve seen from this team and who’s contributing, hard to say it’s anything but a great win.
Mo St. has a higher NET rating than we do. It was a hard fought win and the team never gave up.
I get the critiques but puhleez let’s enjoy this and realize that we now have one more win than last year and two wins that were better than those five.
And most importantly we are undefeated at home and should be going into the Memphis game.
TU game management needs to figure out how to ensure a crowd for that game.
The honor students and family that filled a section were the ones screaming and cheering down the stretch including the crucial missed freethrow by MoSt.

Cobe's shooting % is way down from last year and not surprisingly as a result, he's taking a couple fewer shots per game. Otherwise, he's pretty close to the same guy statistically as last year. He was the best player on a team that went 15-18. 🤷♂️
What does 5-25 have to do with this year? We have a single holdover from that team who basically doesn’t play.
I’m grading the program on this years performance because it’s all we have to go on. Certainly better than last year, but that’s a very very very very very low bar to zero the ambition of the program at.
Improving from terrible to mediocre would have been good if we returned a bunch of kids from the 5-25 team. I expect a bit more from a team filled with transfers & recruits as highly touted as ours were.
He’s known for his defense, not his scoring. And at almost 3 steals per game, he’s living up it on that side of the ball. I did not expect him to be as careless with the ball as he has been though.
He seems out of sync offensively right now. Hope he gets it going on that end. Need it. The defense is legitimate.
IDK, he was LaTech's leading scorer last year at 18.8 ppg and it wasn't close (next guy was 13.7), shooting 46% from the field. Year before he was in a committee of 4 guys all pretty much averaging ~11 or 12 PPG behind the big dog who was over 16. Doesn't sound like a defensive specialist. His turnover rate is pretty much exactly what it was last year, on a 40 minute basis, he's averaging 0.12 more TOs this year than last. He's averaging almost 1 steal per game more than last year, otherwise he's down about 0.7 assists and almost 1 rebound per game, if you think that's significant. Statistically he's pretty much the same guy as last year except for scoring % and the steals improvement.

Ok, we found the problem at least. This is completely unreasonable, a dream world. You don't go 5-25 and fill the roster with top flight transfers unless you're Deion and even that didn't work out as planned, and FR take time to develop, and teams take time to come together. If you really expected 20+ wins and a tourney worthy team, which seems to be your expectation, then you're the problem. You're not living in the real world, I'm afraid.
