I think that’s because they’re all grown men coached by others and Penny hasn’t had time to ruin them yet.
Rick Stansbury is Penny's Wainright.

Certainly a much better hire than faith in Haith was for Memphis. Haith needed Wainright in order to pretend like he was a good coach.

Jacksonville state rocked Yooler 90-60. This is going to be a real bad loss. This should drop them back to a Q4 loss and might be low enough to be there for a while. Wow.

Random Stat on the team this year (from Ken Pom):

Haggerty and Cobe are in the Top 50 of players in the country for steal percentage at 4.4% and 4.5% respectively.

To be in the ranking a player has to play at least 40% of the minutes in the season.

Archie is not currently eligible (but very close at 38% of minutes), however his steal percentage is at 6.4% which is good enough for 5th in the country!

If they maintain a 4% or higher steal percentage, we will be the only team in the country with 3 players stealing at that rate. As of now we are one of 11 teams with 2 players with a steal percentage of 4% or more.

Archie’s PER and TS% would be near tops in the conference if he had a few more minutes to be included in the rankings.

It’s sad that Haggerty is getting the “Freshman“ accolades when Archie really deserves some recognition as well and he is a true freshman.

I don’t understand the “sad” comment. I’m happy that Haggerty is getting freshman accolades and I think they’re well deserved. I hope he gets AAC freshman of the year. It’s been a while since we’ve had a player recognized by the league.

I won’t say this often but I agree with Aston on this. The “sad” portion is that he isn’t recognizing Haggerty is not deserving it’s that Archie is more deserving and because of the lack of minutes that he isn’t up there. I have been pretty vocal on how I am not fond of Haggerty’s “style” of play as I think it is good at times but mostly reckless and costly he is deserving as he does get to the line a lot more than the rest. Archie produces more, in my opinion, than the others with the amount of minutes he is on the court.

I was also just saying that it’s amazing the level of play Archie is at more so than Haggerty. Haggerty had the benefit of practicing with D1 players, in a D1 system, and had adapted to college life. Archie is playing this well in his first go-round with 3 months of college basketball and that’s it.

I think Haggerty could be All-League caliber, but what Archie is doing given 3 months of coaching and weight training, after being an unheralded after thought in the recruiting class is legitimately astounding. Haggerty has shown that he’s above average, but Archie has looked transcendent (In limited minutes)

I love watching Archie, especially in person. He creates excitement with his amazing plays. He’s worth the price of admission by himself!

I think Haggerty is more valuable than even his stats show. While I agree with Loca that he seems to have a selfish bend to his game, he has been passing better as the season has progressed. What doesn’t always show up in the stats is his very high basketball IQ. He tips passes, gets in passing lanes, etc. that creates winning plays. Just like Archie, I appreciate his game even more when I watch the game in person.

What really lifted my overall impression of Haggerty was his postgame interview after his game winning 3 point play to beat Missouri State. Bruce was congratulating him for his clutch shooting and asked his thoughts during the final timeout when he was waiting to shoot the potential go ahead free throw with 3 seconds left. He said he cost us an earlier game by missing a couple late free throws and he was determined to not do that again. I thought that was a humble & mature answer for any player, let alone a freshman.
