Outside of lee, grant and sherman, you could create a list of base names and most people could not tell you if they fought in the civil war for the north or south or some other war or was just a special person.

Beauregard is pretty self explanatory. Pickett is obvious due to his charge at Gettysburg.

Some people are interested in the deeds the people went through them did. Polk, Bliss, Sill, are some in our area. Once a fort has a name, changing it tinkers with history. Some of the bases named after Civil War members have long following traditions, which have nothing to do with the Civil War.
