Ark PB game thread

Anyone else have issues with our broadcasts? Last game my feed was blurry 3/4 of the game. This time the picture is great but the sound is in and out constantly.

Good game. Everyone got on the stat sheet. Really like the potential of Smickle, Nash and Behrend.

You guys are a lot more optimistic than I am. We allowed a very bad team to shoot 51% overall and 67% from inside the arc against us. That isn’t going to work against even average teams. They shot 34% against Cincy for reference.

McWright and Reed are playing too many minutes.

I'll wait till we get Garcia back, and play a couple of games with everybody healthy, against better competition, before I make any judgements against the team. After the Loyola game we should have a better idea of what kind of team we have. You want to pass judgement after an exhibition game, & after the first/second game of the season. You are taking Aston's mantle? We got 20 turnovers against them, and 14 steals, and played good defense on other levels, besides allowing them to shoot a better percentage.

Yeah they are playing too many minutes against somebody we were up by 30 on, and beat by 23 after throwing a bunch of reserves in. You play them with a lot more minutes in a game like this. It figures that it would take something so convoluted for you to find to criticize. The fact that you criticized at all in a game like this is amusing.

I’m not ready to make any type of judgment on this team yet. My post was directed at those being what I feel is overly optimistic based on today’s performance. Agree that we won’t know much until Loyola. Nice to win though. Our OOC schedule is downright bad.

Missouri St will be a nice test.

They were picked next to last in the Valley preseason poll. They’re better than most the teams on our OOC schedule but we should be able to handle them
7 pt road loss against Butler so far. That's not bad.

Butler lost at home to Austin Peay yesterday. Butler ain’t the Butler of old.
Butler was #68 in net last season. Austin Peay might be good this year. Can you take 5 min off of reaming the team, to be glad we were up 30 pts today, and that we might not have a bad team. God, I can't believe we're getting so many negative comments after a 23 point win where we put in the reserves before the 5 min mark.

Yes PIne Bluff is not good, but jeez louise, it was a blow out win. Aston really is rubbing off on you. That's your first comments after the game, and you seem to not have anything good to say after the game unless you said it while I was writing this post. There was some promising play out there. We didn't turn it over, we shot well, we out rebounded them without Garcia, we got a whole bunch of steals, etc, etc. Yes we should have done this, and we did.

I'm over the moon excited for this season. We finally have a fairly well balanced team; guys that can shoot, drive, and bigs to rebound the rock. This is going to be a fun season.

If anyone sees a Smikle or Odom kids basketball shirt or jersey at the games, please let me know.

Did you watch the game?

First half. Had kid activities so I missed the second half. I’m not down on this team. Suppose I may have PTSD from football and the last few basketball seasons. I’m just hesitant to believe….at least not yet. I’m also very disappointed in our schedule. Makes an at large bid almost impossible.

That's when we put the gas on. Came out, and put it away. We were playing decent defense on a lot of their shots that went down, as well. That is, if you want to focus on their shooting percentage.

Uh… Reed was a starter? Lol

McWright didn’t just play in scrub time either (and he has 2 years of previous observation)

I didn’t just mean to criticize. Odom, Barnes, Archie, and Willis have been awesome. I will feel a lot better when we get Garcia back and he is in game shape. I feel like this team could potentially have 20 wins with a healthy Garcia and the 4 I mentioned playing 24-28 mpg. Also glad to see Amadi on the floor. Smikle continues to be in front of where I anticipated.

Fair enough. Sounds like your expectations are higher than mine. I agree the schedule is a disaster and Konkol’s politician answers about it don’t give me hope that it will improve in the future. Despite what they say publicly, it’s not currently a program acting like it aspires to at-large bids. But for a team that won 15 games last year and lost its best player, I thought they looked good.

We knew interior defense/rebounding would be a major weakness and it doesn’t help that skinny Reed kinda stinks right now. But we turned them over and did a nice job of converting those into points. On offense, it’s hard to complain about much outside of Carrington’s shot selection and everything McWright does.

But presumably Willis will play more than 18 minutes and Odom more than 21 in competitive games. And while Garcia isn’t a savior, his size is what this team desperately needs. After the exhibition game, I didn’t see a path to 20 wins. Now I do. Whether that’s an actual accomplishment is up to the reader, I suppose.

How do you ever expect Reed or McWright to ever get better if they don't get anything but scrub time against an inferior opponent? We won going away. Later on in the season, if Reed & Mcwright show any improvement, we'll be thankful that they got a few more minutes against teams like Pine Bluff. If there was any threat of us losing the game, McWright's minutes would have gone down. Everybody got more than scrub minutes except Behrend & Seals. He's preparing us for tough games later in the year.

McWright was 2 of 3 from 2 pt land and if he had made 1 more three he would have been 50% from the field. He took several fouls for us, and made a phenomenal play to recover an alley oop that was overthrown. He was very good defensively, and tied with Odom for the most steals. We had plenty of offense to go around. I'm sure players like Willis will pick up a few of his minutes in games against tougher opponents, but it is wise for him and Reed to get minutes against teams like Pine Bluff, Little Rock, Detroit Mercy, Georgia St. Especially if we are blowing them out. I imagine his minutes will decrease against Missouri St, Loyola, OSU, and UCF unless he show's more against the other teams.

Glad you have no control over the rotation. We will love the depth minutes like this could gain, later in the year.

Same page. Always appreciate your thoughts ctt. You do it more eloquently than I am able to, but I think you’re spot on.

McWright should have had one more bucket except Behrend was in the wrong place on an alley oop and ended up blocking him out.
