AAC releases band, spirit squad guidelines for upcoming season
Safety prioritized by new mandates

The American Athletic Conference has mandated changes for bands and spirit squads for the 2020 season, according to collegemarching.com.

According to the new mandates, no band will perform traditional pregame, halftime or post game shows.

Bands sitting in the stands must maintain adequate social distancing. In some cases where the size of the band will not allow for proper social distancing, the number of people in the band will be reduced to follow state safety standards.

New guidelines prioritizing safety have been created for the upcoming season:
  • No visiting team bands or spirit squads.
  • No on-field performance for the home team’s band.
  • No spirit squads on the field to start the season.
  • Home team band and spirit squad limits to be re-evaluated as stadium restrictions are lifted.
The restrictions will impact all AAC teams, including Memphis, Navy, SMU, Tulane, Houston, Tulsa, Cincinnati, UCF, Temple, USF and East Carolina.
