2015 American Athletic Conference Football Highlights
Three Teams In Final College Football Playoff Committee Rankings
Houston (No. 18), Navy (No. 21) and Temple (No. 24) were ranked in the final College Football Playoff Selection Committee rankings of the 2015 season. The conference breakdown of the CFP rankings had the SEC and Big Ten with five teams each, the Big 12 and Pac-12 with four teams each, and The American and the ACC with three teams each.
Houston To Face Florida State In Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl
Houston will face Florida State at noon ET on New Year’s Eve in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. Houston is one of five teams nationally with at least 12 wins this season, joining Clemson, Iowa, Michigan State and Alabama.
Navy’s Reynolds Registers Top-Five Heisman Finish
Navy QB Keenan Reynolds, the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, finished fifth in the voting for the 2015 Heisman Trophy. It was the best finish by a service academy in the Heisman balloting since Navy’s Roger Staubach won the award in 1963.
Temple’s Matakevich Chosen As Nation’s Top Defensive Player
Temple LB Tyler Matakevich, The American’s Defensive Player of the Year, was chosen as the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s top defensive player. Matakevich also became the second American Athletic Conference player in three years to earn NCAA Consensus All-America status, joining Memphis P Tom Hornsey, who was chosen in 2013.
