∙ Houston continues play in the Global Sports Classic with a matchup against Grand Canyon Monday evening at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. The Cougars, who have won eight of their first nine games to open the season, posted an 81-65 win over Eastern Illinois in its last time out Saturday at Hofheinz Pavilion. Rob Gray, Jr., who leads Houston and the American Athletic Conference with 18.9 points per game, sat out Saturday’s contest and will be a game-time decision Monday.
∙ UConn shot over 60-percent (32-of-50) from the floor for the second consecutive game in Sunday’s 88-79 win over UMass Lowell. Rodney Purvis scored a season-high 28 points for the Huskies and Daniel Hamilton added 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. UConn, which outrebounded the River Hawks 30-18, played without the services of starting center Amida Brimah to do injury. The Huskies host Central Connecticut Wednesday before taking on Texas on Dec. 29 in Austin, Texas.
