This looks like a rough week in the AAC as only 2 out of 12 games are favored by league teams. FAU and South Florida are the only favorites. Navy and Army both have the weekend off.

It’s criminal for the officials to take the game away from the players like that. Awful call.

The University of Tulsa Extends Konkol’s Contract

TULSA, Okla. –– After leading the Golden Hurricane to an 11-win improvement in his second season at the helm, Tulsa men’s basketball head coach Eric Konkol’s contract was extended through the 2029 season, University of Tulsa Vice President and Director of Athletics Justin Moore announced today.

“I am honored to be the head men’s basketball coach at The University of Tulsa, and my family and I love calling Tulsa home,” Konkol said. “We are excited about the progress we have made together and proud of the culture we have built in our locker room, on campus, and in the community. We have a determined group of players, staff, administrators, and supporters and I’m grateful for their commitment to improvement.

“Thank you to President Brad Carson, (then) AD Rick Dickson, and our TU Board of Trustees for bringing us here two years ago and for their confidence in our vision for the future. I’m excited about working with Justin Moore to build on our progress and bring even greater success to this storied program, elite university and wonderful city. Reign ’Cane!”

The Golden Hurricane is coming off a 16-15 season in 2023-24. The 11-win improvement was the largest increase since the 1924-25 campaign. Tulsa was a force at home, finishing 14-4 in the Donald W. Reynolds Center. TU averaged 75.0 points per game, the most since the 2001-02 team.

Under Konkol’s leadership, three freshmen were named to The American All-Freshman team, only the second time three players from the same school were named to the team, and first time in TU history for any conference. He also coached the program’s third conference freshman of the year award winner and first National Freshman of the Year recipient.

A native of Amherst, Wisconsin, Konkol was named Tulsa’s 31st head basketball coach on March 21, 2022. He came to TU following seven seasons at Louisiana Tech, where he compiled a 153-75 record, the third-highest win total in school history. Konkol’s coaching career began at The University of Tulsa in 2000-01 as a graduate assistant under head coach Buzz Peterson and the 2001 NIT Champion Golden Hurricane.

As my wife and daughters like to call my TV staring and people running around in uniforms.

First, USA Canada. US defense looks terrible and has been rightfully punished by a Canadian goal. Actually I blame the US midfield which is not marking in the defensive end and loose with the ball.

Then comes grilling steaks from 5 to 6 and TU football.

On my computer screen, today's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. but on my tv it says 11 p.m. Do they have different air times a lot or is it user error? Maybe it will update.

At least I'll be able to watch live on my computer. But I wanted to watch on my new smart tv. Maybe only as smart as its user.

US defense looking crappy so far. Giving up ridiculous amount of space in the box and fortunate Canada not doing more with it.

If Tulsa's upcoming game against Arkansas State was a home game or neutral game, this would be the type of game that Tulsa fans, and most people for that matter, would think Tulsa should win, and perhaps, win convincingly. But also, strange things happen in road games at night. And Arkansas State is a decent team. And quite frankly, on the 50-50 calls made by the refs, don't count on a favorable ruling. Just ask its opponent last week, Central Arkansas.

Those factors alone make Arkansas State (1-0) a shocking 7.5 point favorite over Tulsa for the 6 p.m. game Saturday night in Jonesboro at Centennial Bank Stadium (30,382 seating capacity). So for Tulsa to pull off a road win in a state it hasn't won a football game in for 48 years, the Golden Hurricane is going to have to be sharp. Not necessarily perfect, but sharp.

I haven't verified but wondering if anyone might have heard this. One of the workers told me yesterday when I was getting gas that they would be closing that QT down in two months. 11th and Harvard'ish. That QT was a quick place to hit up before games and even during half time every now and then.

Barnett has been cleared to play by the OSSAA and will be in uniform when the Class 6AI Trojans host No. 3 Owasso at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Barnett, No. 1 in the All-World preseason receiver rankings, had 97 receptions for 1,032 yards and eight TDs in the previous two seasons for Broken Arrow before enrolling in May at Jenks.

On Thursday, Barnett committed to play college football next year at Central Arkansas.
