Takeaways from week 1

Fast forward past the first 4 series, this team dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

The skinny post continued to eat us up in the secondary, but our front 4 really looked good.

I went home and watched the game on TV again last night. While that TD pass just before half was textbook, Marquise Shoulders getting the separation needed to make that catch is extremely underrated and I encourage everyone to go watch that play if you haven't. Not sure if it's a sign of our offensive coaching staff or just Marquise natural instincts, but it was beautiful all the way around. He had to stutter step early to get the DB to slow down before getting separation and making a move on the ball.

Tight ends really opened up the game plan.

I kind of wish we hadn't ran with he QB so much to not show our hand too early for Washington.

I'm excited for this season #Golden

P.S. If we beat Washington, I will personally orchestrate the return of the Golden Hurricane chant at Chapman stadium.

Sellout

I guess sellout.com will be a new local sports outlet online. I know Jenny Carlson, Guerin Emig, Berry Tramel and some others are part of it. When you sign up they ask you your favorite team, and the options are :OU, OSU, OKC THunder, Other College, Local HS, and Other Pro. Brad Carson clapped back and basically said "Change this" and included the @utulsa handle. Thank God we have a President advocating for TU even with something so seemingly minor. Can't even get treated like a major D1 team in our own damn state. And I'm glad he did this...I won't subscribe until they change it.

📝 Larry Lewis GAME RECAP: After rough start, Tulsa hammers UAPB

Trailing 7-0 after one quarter, Cardell Williams brought the Tulsa offense to life, helping TU to a big win over UAPB in Kevin Wilson's first game as the Hurricane head football coach.

Official AR Pine Bluff Prediction Thread

We welcome in the KDub era of TU football. Is it just me, or does it feel like we have adults in charge of our program finally?

Maybe the offense will entail more than half a dozen plays. Which does kill any chance at drinking games, but we can adapt.

With all this conference mish-mash, now is a real good time to have a good season.

Somebody creative needs to come up with a good nickname for the Braylon to Braylin connection.

In Brad We Trust: 38
Directional Arkansas: 17

Bonus Kendall prediction: Either frosh Crooks or Tempest will catch a pass.

📝 Larry Lewis TU ready to begin Kevin Wilson era at home against UAPB

Seeing the new look 2023 Tulsa team, with Braylon Braxton at quarterback, is what the season opener with Arkansas Pine Bluff is all about.

UAPB (3-8, 1-7 SWAC in 2022) figures to be a pretty bad FCS team. Tulsa (5-7, 3-5 AAC in 2022) isn't taking the game lightly, and should be ready to roll and show fans what will make this season different under new coach Kevin Wilson from what took place last season under Philip Montgomery.

Are three TV's too much?

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Tomorrow evening, TU Football will be in action, My KC Chiefs are playing, and the kids will want to watch either Paw Patrol or Bluey. It would be great to watch them all, but I don't believe YouTubeTV has any split-screen capabilities.

Are there any stream services that have 3-way split screen options?

🏈 Recruiting 3-star RB picks Tulsa over, Mizzou, Cal, BYU and others

Back in June, Lewisville (TX) athlete Viron Ellison listed a top five of Tulsa, Missouri, California, BYU and Arkansas State. Two months later, the Golden Hurricane ultimately won out, as the 6-foot and 180-pound running back committed to Tulsa on August 25.

TU’s Grueling Football Preseason Nears End - Tulsa World

This section from the article was refreshing -

Having already played five seasons for a different team, Kopenski admits, “This has definitely been the hardest fall camp I’ve been through. We go live almost every day and we really go after each other and get a lot of reps.”

Wilson has heard other transfer players express similar opinions about his grueling preseason and the in-depth practices that target all of the small changes and improvements that can lead to big results.

Joe Boulden, the special teams coordinator and defensive assistant, expresses his delight in having a head coach who emphasizes the importance of special teams. Boulden and Wilson both agree that games can be won or lost on special teams.

Despite this being his first season at TU, Wilson does not want to be given a grace period to make the team great after the Hurricane went 5-7 in 2022.

“I’m not setting the bar low, I’ve got some seniors who want to win now.”
