SoCal fires

Just because there were fewer homes, does not mean the fires occurred significantly less often or had less magnitude. There were still many homes there.

Imagine trying to fight one of those fires without the aid of cargo planes or helicopters. It would spread.... well.... like wildfire.
We just witnessed what happens when fire fighters don’t have access to water to fight these fires. Safe to assume LA will now fix those issues?

SoCal fires

While fires did happen somewhat regularly in this area of California in the past, the frequency severity and consequence of the burns has tended to increase due to pendulum growth and draught cycles exacerbated by climate change, as well as increased population density.

There are of course no forest or logging in Southern California as the region is arid. The “brush” there are the native plants or bushes/trees we have planted. I do understand why people who live in the area want to have the hillsides covered in plant material. Unfortunately with the arid climate it all too often turns into kindling. I drove through the burn area near Rocky Mountain National Park last year. Very few trees survived. A new batch of trees were just starting to pop up. Of course that area is sparsely populated unlike the hills of LA.

Have there been issues with big forest fires in logging areas? I know hiking through areas of Colorado dead trees scattered on the forest floor are very common. Easy to see why those fires spread.

The first recorded fire in Southern California burned 300,000 acres in Orange County in 1889. The current fires has burned just under 40k for perspective
Yes, there have been issues with big forest fires in logging areas. There were multi million dollar settlements to logging companies in Oregon in the last few years for damage to their leases.

Charlotte official game thread

Garcia made a big impact when he came in. We are praising Odom and we should but what
would this have looked like if Garcia had not played...
After 2 1/2 seasons, Konkol&Co. finally have the potential to field a front court that actually
looks like an AAC team's front court!! When Barnes returns, we will (barring injury to some
one else) have our full complement of front courters....Carrington will complete our full orig.
roster when he gets over the ankle....

Several good news happenings have contributed....The new rule governing prev. JUCOs
has allowed Garcia to play this 2nd semester and still have a year of eligibility left, plus the
fact he is actually healthy enough to play..Smikle's development has been rapid, and his
rebounding has been a God send....He is very much ahead of his expected learning curve..

A front court that includes Garcia, Smikle, Amadi, and Barnes is certainly not the best we
have ever had, but isn't "chopped liver" either....If my home made eligibility sheet is correct,
they all have at least an additional year left (if we can KEEP them)....

It keeps getting harder and harder to give Reed much P.T. His defense is so weak, it seems
we slump as a team when he is in....It's a pity, for he tries really hard, and he was much
needed when Barnes and Garcia were both injured....

Wins will still be hard to come by, but the potential seems to be there for a better finish
than we were anticipating...Konkol's future employment status may have improved from
the level of a couple of weeks ago!
