GAMES OF INTEREST (11.13.24 - 11.15.24) O R WHO?

Nice to get the monkey off our back of losing to ORU with a good win. The bother I have is that we were up 20 and let them get back within 9. A win is a win and we looked as good as we did against UAPB.

There is a small slate of games today.

Today’s games

Northern Iowa at Wichita St.
MVSU at Missou
Southern Illinois at Okie State.

Full Schedule is below

2024 Election prediction/discussion

The most difficult part about this has really been humor. I was in trainings alongside guys from the lower to middle rungs of the business. They said they would regularly poke fun at each other for various reasons, sometimes for stereotypes, but they also said they had worked together on the same crew for 40+ years and had been to many family gatherings and had to trust each other with their lives on a day to day basis.

But when an outsider heard some of the ways they talked to each other they might be somewhat appalled, even knowing it was in jest, because a newcomer to that part of the organization might not know how to deal with it.

I do think there needs to be some programs on some people having a bit thicker skin and knowing that even when someone might say something you initially perceive as hurtful, that it may not meant to be taken in the way you have perceived it. The hard part is to tell the difference between when you need to stand up for yourself and when you should allow it to slide.
Of course common sense needs to come into it. The intent of communication matters.

But there is no excuse for hazing in any workplace IMO.

Oru fans: this isn’t our Super Bowl!

Oru fans on their message board:

“It seems early in the season, but the Super Bowl is already here (Mayor’s Cup)!”

Lol they are also mad no one really talked about the game over here beforehand… we didn’t talk about Arkansas Pine bluff or NSU much either - basically the same caliber of team.
I seen that 😂 They were also disappointed that we weren’t talking about the game days before
Edit - just seen you said that last part what I put about them being disappointed we weren’t talking about them

You're 100% correct. I'm not a theologian at all, never even took a modern religion class. Most of my Christian beliefs have probably been formed in the last 10-15 years. So many scriptures are taken out of context and bastardized. The prosperity gospel is one. The I Corinthians 13:4- passage about love gets co-opted as a passage about marital love when it's really a passage about how to love your fellow man (you know, the Love Thy Neighbor commandment that Jesus said is 2nd only to Love God). And the evangelicals think that Christianity is about keeping a scorecard and checking off boxes to get into heaven when reality is, all you have to do is be a good person (controversial, I know). This is why they keep bringing up isolated scriptures in their blasting of LGBTQ folks.

Anyway, my time at ORU was a good thing for parts but I also learned thing and became a little jaded towards evangelicalism at the same time. The number of times I heard "I thought this was supposed to be a Christian school" when someone didn't get their way was enough to make me want to destroy my ear drums with an ice pick.
We are to love everyone ! Even our enemies ( which is easier said then done , Lord knows I struggle with that ) don’t know why people blast others , we all fall short , none of us are better then anyone , we are saved by Grace by faith in Christ
That’s why I get so irritated by some of these Christian schools that act like they are better then everyone else , it even goes into the high schools.
I remember in highschool, out of all of the schools we played , I was never cussed out more then I was when I played Casia Hall. Some of the things I was called would make things on this board G rated 😂
Well there’s my speech , I wanted to get that off my chest for a long time about ORU 😂 I owe you a steak dinner for that lol

As a Christian myself ( which means we know we are not perfect or anywhere close to it which is why I need Christ ,think is forgotten about way too much ) I couldn’t agree more . There are so many of these “ churches” that just want to make money off of hurting people looking for hope , it’s a horrible thing. People like Joel Osteen and Kenneth Copeland are examples of this.
Ps - not trying to shove my beliefs on anyone , just wanted to point out how many misuse the Church
