🏈 News/Notes TU Football Notebook: Off week

Tulsa has an off week before hosting East Carolina on Thursday, November 14. With another disappointing loss, as one would expect, news mentioning the program isn't very positive...

Kevin Wilson, Tulsa

Last week, I wrote out two paragraphs for the college football hot seat article about Kevin Wilson and how he was in danger of losing his job as the head coach of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. At the time, they were 35-7 down against the UTSA Roadrunners and looked listless on both sides of the ball. Somehow, they rallied late in the game and escaped with a 46-45 win.

That joy was short-lived. In Week 10, Wilson’s team was 45-7 down at the half and never recovered. The worst part? The game was against a UAB Blazers team that was 1-6 without a conference win before facing Tulsa. There’s a real chance that this Golden Hurricane team will end 2024 with as many AAC wins in two seasons as the final year under Philip Montgomery and the worst overall record for the program since 2018.

The Archie steal and game-tying shot was a classic, even if it doesn't count in regular season.
What a terrific play. Give it up to him,
Good for him! Had I not known who did that, I would have guessed Archie....

Given the lack of buzz after the game, I would suspect we stunk up the place the last 2/3 of the game...the
state of TU sports at the moment is not too hot....The results of us replacing the then mediocre coaches has
so far given us more mediocrity....

There are some reasons that are obvious....Covid and its aftermaths, the portal, and NIL have all been
contributors, especially the NIL factor....It's just not an even playing field without the ability to compete for
good players with our competitors on a somewhat even $$ basis.....Getting the player is hard enough, keeping
the player if he/she shows unusual promise is quiet another....

BUT, it is what it is....We seem to be in over our heads at the moment, with no immediate solutions at hand...
I'm frustrated right now, and needed to say something....I realize that won't help anything, but at least I feel a
little better....:frown:

Northeastern State

Looks like the Key to beating Northeastern State is 3 point defense. They have better wide open shooters than us.....Phipps, Allen, Washington....But we should be much stronger inside. (If we have Garcia) They also have Edwards 6'8" , a guard/forward who was a 4 star recruit at DePaul as well as Washington was All American JUCO. So we can't take this team lightly. They are better than Missouri S and T............

My kids team played well this weekend in Austin in the Texas Cup Final Four. We played #6 Real Colorado to a scoreless draw in regulation then won in PKs 8-7. The girls made 8 of their 9 PKs against on of the best U15 keepers in the country.

That win set us up in the finals against #4 Solar. The girls played well but fell 1-0 on a header which floated just under the crossbar. The positive was one goal allowed in two games against two of the top ten teams in the country. The negative is we still can’t score.

Yeah, even if it is a wonky bad sample (which can happen even to Selzer), it is a very bad omen for Trump. If it is even close there it is bad news for him. And it would be shocking if Selzer is off by more than 8 points and Trump wins Iowa by 5+.

She said she saw significant movement from older women voting in large numbers for Harris.
Selzer has a long history of extremely accurate polling in Iowa. I find it hard to believe she would jeopardize her reputation with an intentional wrong poll. However if she’s off by more than 2-3 points I firmly believe based on her history it’s deliberate. We shall see.

Tyler full of energy and made several interventions to help preserve Bournemouth's victory over the previously undefeated Man. City. Pochettino has to be thrilled along with the rest of us although there's no way Adams will be match fit for those friendlies. Still, with minutes in the Cherries last 3 & more to come, he soon will be. Also, H. Wright scored for Coventry on Sat.
Think he could be match fit for a sub... .

Update: Tufts Blue and Boston U tied 0-0 yesterday. They came back and beat RIT 2-0. Tufts and BU had to go to a PK tie breaker to see which one would go to the knockout stage as the group winner and which would go in as the wild card. They were tied in every category as they each beat the Rochester schools 2-0 and tied 0-0. They were the only two schools to not concede a goal in the group stage of play out of 24 teams.

BU won PKs 4-3. Tufts GK made a save in the 1st PK but my son said two of his teammates shanked their tries and missed the goal completely.

Tufts played Delaware in the quarters and lost 1-0 on a late counter. My son likened the way they played to the way Jenks and BA played the state championship last year not sending anyone forward and kicking it long to see if they could get a forward to run onto it. He said his team started pressing an attack late trying to find a goal not wanting to leave it to PKs. They got caught in a counter and Delaware scored on its only SOG of the game. Tough break. I think he gets a break for a bit before they pick it up for a Spring season.

A question. What’s up with Forest? Last year their defense couldn’t stop anyone and they struggled to stay out of the relegation zone. I looked at the standings yesterday and they’re in third place. I know it’s really early in the season and lots will change but I don’t follow the premier league to the extent y’all do, are they good this year or have they had an easy go of it?
So this is from my son, who I just had a conversation about this very thing:

Last seasons Forest had a points deduction penalty that had them scraping to stay up in the EPL for this season. Also, they didn't go and buy 6-8 new players so their current team has had time to gel. He said Chris Wood is also playing at a level he's never played at before and that has helped them. I think going into last season they had their 2nd year of EPL $ which makes a huge difference and they bought a bunch of players, so the chemistry thing makes sense. I do like seeing them and Bournemouth playing well so far this season. My son is a huge United fan but they're struggling. He is excited to see what the new coach they hired away from Sporting CP (Portugal) can do. United is good until the money they're not and give up a bad goal, like today vs Chelsea. I really like Liverpool's position right now. Their efforts in every game have been pretty consistent and they can just generate scoring chances regardless of which front 3 they run out there.

Yes. If Harris is up 3 in Iowa she will win states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. I also like her chances in North Carolina.

And in some great news, Tyler Adams came on in the 66' for Bournemouth and helped preserve a 2-1 over Manchester City. I've read some comments that Adams was the best player on the field after he came on. Huge win for Bournemouth (and Liverpool 😁).
