Youth soccer club

I was looking at the tryout dates for WSA ECNL, and noticed as of now they plan on using Westbank. Have they not secured a better facility for at least those two days.

yeah.

I know they moved the open training for my daughters age group to car for “better surface”

That is pathetic. West Bank is an utter and total joke. They let Spanish leagues go play there to line bushs' pockets even more on Sundays. The fields are trash.

Sorry you guys are signing up for that. Have fun!

They aren't going to play games at broken arrow or scheels. They won't even put their academy teams in there because it won't line their pockets.

Someone has to pay for the old as dirt World Cup experience.

Self before side.

And it sounds like FC Tulsa Academy (Blitz) will be using Titan for training in the 11v11 age groups, younger groups will still train at Alsuma. The release I saw sounds like there is supposed to be a concerted effort to train the kids in the same style as the pro side. It sounds all great we'll see where it ends up and I wonder if they will be redoing the add'l fields at Titan and hosting games out there. If it goes off as they're telling everyone, they may be pulling non top tier kids from the other clubs, especially if they can pull ECNL in...and I wonder if they might try to even get it on the girls side which would really piss off the Bushes.

There will never be more than one ECNL club in Tulsa on the girls side

Maybe WSA NL coaching staff is starting to be announced?

From what I know / have been told: Rafa has the 11G, Preston has the 12G, Kass has the 13G.

They just announced Troy Tokarchik.

Joao will stop at nothing to get top tier girls talent there. The amount of people loyal to him is quite high. His track record is pretty darn good too.
I like Joao but when has he ever won anything in high level competitive soccer? Heck….when has he coached a successful high level competitive team?

I don’t care who the coach is he isn’t going to be able to bring high level talent as long as his club’s top platform is third tier ECNL.

I’m not a fan of Joao, he’s a good trainer but I think his social skills are lacking. I agree with your earlier statement though, Tulsa will always be a one ECNL town.

He has all the best young, young girls teams right now by a considerable margin.

As I may have alluded in prior posts, there are lots of people with very strong opinions of him. Many sing is praises. Others don't. My guess is you weren't as talented or competitive if you don't like him.

He doesn’t have the best 13s or 14s. Even those teams are still academy level. Back to my question, what success has he ever had at competitive high level soccer? I’ve been around awhile and I can’t recall a single instance. Heck…I don’t believe he’s ever coached in the competitive ranks.

Disclosre…my kid has played for Joao. I think he’s a good academy coach. Emphasis on academy

On the girls side 13's TSC, 14's WSA, 15's Blitz, 16's Carreno. This is the problem with Tulsa soccer......
Talent is somewhat spread out at the academy level in Dallas as well. What Dallas does well is consolidating the talent in 3 or 4 clubs (teams) once those girls hit competitive. Tulsa needs to do a better job of keeping all those girls at home

My kid has played for João as well, so like you we have that real life experience.

Depth. 2-3 good players in 7v7 and 9v9 can win you games. But when you need to fill a Roster with 15 players to compete against elite clubs Tulsa doesn't have that. I mean compete for a top 6 spot...Maybe!! but not consistently.

There’s also the factor of training. Girls in Dallas simply train more than the girls here. More training and better training on the whole. Most ECNL players have at least one private training session per week in addition to their 3 team trainings. More training typically equates to superior development and better players. Why do the train more in Dallas… because they have to in order to keep their NL spot due to numbers. The one thing we could change in Tulsa in addition to keeping local girls home is promote outside training. TSC largely discouraged it and the results showed as the girls aged. I can’t tell you how many times I was told my kid was over training. The amount of training everyone is doing in Dallas

I know of a keeper that trains team training, private keeper training and also does some foot skills training.

I was told that she was over training.

In my experience, you would not be told that in Dallas at the academy age. Now once girls go through puberty, I do believe there’s some validity to the need for rest and recovery.

My experience is as girls get older they spend more and more time at improving speed, strength, quickness, and overall athletic ability. My kid now spends as much time trying to improve athletic performance as she does soccer skill.

My son would train with his team 3x per week, he'd get an extra one in with the next team up, and then club GK training (when TSC had an actual GK coach) and then private GK training. Seems like a lot until you realize that the team training sessions he was involved in maybe half of it (technical) but when they started in tactical stuff, GKs are largely bystanders...plus most team coaches have no idea what to do with GKs in training and they become largely an afterthought

Jenks girls beat Bixby 3-2 tonight. Jenks’ high press completely stifled Bixby in the second half as Bixby struggled to get the ball out of their end. Bixby really struggled to complete passes in the midfield and final third. I thought Jenks was the faster and more physical side

Agreed . Jenks out played, out hustled and kept pressure on Bixby the whole second half.

Game wasn't really that close, Bixby's GK had several good saves that kept it from getting out of hand.

Was odd that Bixby kept their leading scorer on the bench roughly 30-35 minutes of the game too,.

High school coaches never cease to amaze me. They get way too much credit for being blessed with overwhelming talent. It's stunning. Then they make the dumbest decisions and try to blame it one weird stuff, but whatever. Go on with your bad selves, boys and girls.

Very few people I know believe high school girls coaches are elite (ECNL) level coaches. No idea what they think on the boys side. To be fair, girls high school soccer even at the 6A level is pretty hard to watch most of the time. Lots of kick it and run ball. Very few teams have the overall skill to effectively play out of the back and thru the midfield. The Jenks - Bixby game was fun in large part due to the rivalry. Updated east side girls rankings:

Owasso
BA
Jenks
Bixby
Union

I would take Eric Marshall at Jenks (boys) up against any coach. He played 3 years at Duke and is a great guy.

Michael Wilson, who was at Union (boys), is/was a really good HS coach who also coached some higher level girls teams at WSA. I think he was at TSC at one point but wasn't a fan of the process there. Current Union girls coach...UGH. I am pretty sure I could do a better job and actually develop some of the players more than what is happening right now. Of course there are 2 assistants at Union who probably should be the HC and primary assistant/JV development coach right now. Matt Howe is a decent coach but he should be in charge of the JV program to develop players and get them ready to play varsity. And Hailey (can't remember her last name) should be the HC. Former Union player under Brian Elliott.

AS for Eric Marshall...I know a lot of people like him but I absolutely loathe the style he plays. He's got way better talent and capable players than most yet he still plays that low block hoping to get to PKs. When you have a dominant GK, that works...but when you don't, like this year, you're better off using the speed and talent to high press and attack and keep teams on their heels. BA boys do this to an extent as well. This year's BA team is a little better at working the ball through the midfield and building an attack vs past season's where they played similar to Jenks seemingly. Imagine watching two low block teams play 80 minutes of not attacking. You end up with state championship games with no goals scored going to PKs...boring as ****. At least Bixby is trying to go forward and it looks like they did a good job of it against Jenks the other night.

I'm surprised by Union on the boys' side this year. Didn't think they had much but now I am convinced it was the coaching last year. Aaron Ugbah has taken over this year and their only loss was a 3-1 loss to BA in the Jenks tournament. They're 7-1 overall with wins over Owasso, Jenks, Bartlesville, BA (2nd match), and 3 wins over teams from Tennessee and Alabama in the Smoky Mountain Cup.

Higher level girls teams at WSA is relative :)

As far as playing a low block, it doesn’t require a lot of coaching prowess to throw a bunch of kids behind the ball. It’s also makes for very boring and ugly soccer
