Tulsa’s Temira Poindexter Named The American Freshman of the Year​

Wyvette Mayberry tabbed to all-conference team; Poindexter and Delanie Crawford selected to all-freshmen team​

Tulsa women's basketball player Temira Poindexter(Sapulpa, Okla.) was named as the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, while sophomore Wyvette Mayberry (Tulsa, Okla.) was tabbed to the all-conference second team. Poindexter and fellow rookie Delanie Crawford (Piemont, Okla.) were selected to the all-freshmen team.

Poindexter is TU's first women's basketball Freshman of the Year in program history, while Poindexter and Crawford are Tulsa's fourth and fifth AAC all-freshmen team selections and seventh and eighth honorees overall. Mayberry is the fifth AAC all-conference selection and 23rd overall.

Poindexter has started in 18 of 24 games, posting two double-doubles, 15 double-digit scoring games and two double-digit rebounding contests on the season. She has the team's third-best scoring average with 11.6 points per game, while leading the team in rebounds per game (4.9) and blocks (43). She is shooting 42.2-percent from the field and 80.9-percent from the free throw line. Poindexter ranks 51st in the nation in blocked shots per game (1.79) and 64th in blocked shots. Poindexter had season-highs of 23 points in her first collegiate game, 10 rebounds against both East Carolina and SMU, six assists against Wichita State, six blocks against Cincinnati and three steals against SMU. Poindexter was named The American Freshman of the Week a league-record eight times this season.

Mayberry has started in 23 games, posting 18 double-digit scoring games, and leads the team with a 13.8 points per game average. She is shooting 45.1-percent from the field, 46.2-percent from behind the arc and 75.6-percent from the free throw line. Mayberry has tallied season-bests of 24 points against Central Arkansas and East Carolina, eight rebounds against Oral Roberts, nine assists against South Alabama, and four steals against Cincinnati.

Crawford has started in seven of 24 games and has seven double-digit scoring contests on the season. She averages 7.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, while tallying 47 assists, 21 steals and six blocks, and shooting 42-percent from the field, 34.6-percent from behind the arc and 66.7-percent from the free throw line. Crawford has season-bests of 15 points against Central Arkansas, eight rebounds against three teams including South Florida, five assists against Oral Roberts and #23 UCF, and three steals against Austin Peay. Crawford was tabbed as The American Freshman of the Week once this year.
