This is the Republican Party

Welp… you know it must be another election cycle when Republicans start incessantly fear mongering about the southern border.

It reminds me of cicadas in the summertime. The continuous droning that people have to learn to ignore.
Damn Republicans

This is the new age of the "Know-Nothings". The same people who advocated against the poor Irish and Germans entering the country during the post Napoleonic famines.

Immigration during the first five years of the 1850s 2020's reached a level five times greater than a decade earlier. Most of the new arrivals were poor Catholic peasants or laborers from Ireland Venezuela and Germany Honduras who crowded the tenements of large cities. Crime and welfare costs soared. Cincinnati's Dallas' crime rate, for example, tripled between 1846 and 1853 (Pick your dates) and its murder rate increased .sevenfold (Pick your statistic) Boston's New York's expenditures for poor relief rose threefold (TBD) during the same period.

Luckily it turns out that those people actually knew nothing and that the immigration crisis turned into a benefit rather than a detriment.

Astro is plugging relocating the Golden Gate Bridge to the border, and funding a high speed rail from there to NY. All abooooard, get off any where you like. No matter that the population's are overburdening the situation unlike the times of the Napoleonic famines. No matter that the social security system is on a collision force with failure. We're on the verge of a crisis unlike anything the world has ever had to deal with, and he wants to open the borders. We actually had uses for the increase in population then. Now, not so much. We shouldn't close the border, but we shouldn't leave the gate wide open either.

The US population will adapt to economic and social realities. It will take some time. It will be painful. But ultimately, it will work out. I agree that there is a tipping point.... but we're not at it yet, and I would argue that we're not even near it yet.

If you think that social welfare systems are having trouble now, you should see what happens after you try halting the only source of population growth we have:

"With fewer children being born, the proportion of elderly individuals increases relative to the working-age population. This demographic imbalance poses challenges for social welfare systems, healthcare, and pension schemes. Declining birth rates can also impact the labor market and economic productivity. A smaller workforce may lead to labor shortages, skill gaps, and reduced innovation. And shrinking populations reduce consumer demand, a cornerstone of the global economy, which may trigger a restructure of the current growth model of development."

If there is a tipping point, why would we even want to get close to it. I didn't say shut it down. We are growing much more quickly with our illegal immigrant increases than is necessary for us to have a stable growth level. You want to let too much population growth in the US to happen which is just as bad as not enough. IMO we should cut our growth rate down to as close to zero as possible. We have been slowing it down gradually, but it isn't slow enough.

If we keep our growth rate near zero(not at zero) it will allow us a much better chance of dealing with climate change as is possible. We have had a death rate of .80-.85% per year, excepting for the increase due to covid since 2000. Births in the US have been between approximately 1.115 and 1.15 this century. So we are keeping up with the births to deaths at this point, enough to have a stable population without immigration. Our population is still growing at a rate of approx. .5% per year due to immigration.(legal and illegal)

That is growing too fast with climate change, and needs to be cut down to somewhere around .25%, give or take .05%. That is more than enough growth with climate change coming so quickly. We have slowed it down from around 1% to .5% in the past 20 years. But we need to pull it down a couple of 3 tenths of a percent in the next few years, and we are going in the opposite direction.

We have no need for a growth rate of between 1-1.75% like we have seen from the 50"s up until nearly 2010. China and India are going to choke on their population. And China might already have their low birth rate put them in an awful state before they get hit with the worse problems of climate change. That would pop them in the mouth right when they don't need it. Back to the subject at hand though. We are almost at the level we need it to be, but we still have a little ways to go down, with our growth rate.

Trump dropping his intimidation case, when he fails to limit the deposition in his favor. Too much exposure that could affect his other cases. He knows he absolutely has to win the election to have any chance of saving himself from all of this. I hope it all bites off his whole ass. He is doing his best to bring down a whole nation, to feed his ego.

we've had the war on poverty since 1965, 58 years and more poverty now .

So the solution to a low birth rate caused in part by government meddling in reproductive decisions and family planning is more government meddling with immigration policy to prop up social services? Ask the Chinese and Japanese how well that has worked out for them lately. Put down the Kool-aid. You are being conned.

Im just saying breeders need to stop breeding...Let the forests come back, let the habitats come back, and let me not have to look at everyone's mugs all the time ugh!!!!!

and their titular leader embraces all out fascism as practiced by Adolf Hitler. Just look at Trump's recent quotes where he doesn't even hide his wish to establish a fascist dictatorship in the US.

This board never disappoints.
How so? The claim of Trump quoting Hitler? More and more GOP affiliated groups are quoting Hitler (and even praising some of his ideals) in the last couple of months (Moms 4 Liberty, Ryan Walters, etc.).

So I've come to realize something as being true...everything the right accuses the left of doing or being is an admission to what they actually are or believe. Except of course of being woke because why would so-called Christian Nationalists ever care about a poor person, a sick person, or have empathy for the hardship of others.

BTW, pay attention as more and more non-Evangelical pastors and reverends (i.e. Methodists, Episcopalian, Lutheran, and even Catholic) are coming out against the brand of "Christianity" the evangelical charismatics are pushing as not actually being very Christian or Christ-like at all.

1). I condemn the language being used by Trump re immigration.

2). I find it hard to take seriously people who support the federal government’s suppression of the constitutional right of free speech which is critical or adverse to said government when they state the dangers of fascism or invoke Hitler. A history lesson is needed.

All that said, this country is currently facing serious economic issues. We cannot continue to run these deficits and service our growing debt at 4-5% interest. It is not sustainable. We continue to focus on the wrong things. The solution isn’t Biden or Trump yet here we are.

Hitler! Take a shot!

Milton Bradley and Jack Daniels couldnt devise a better drinking game..
The hypocrisy of Libs invoking Hitler when describing conservatives while currently supporting those calling for the modern day extermination of Jews in this country is something to behold.

The only thing I did was post a presidential candidate’s own words which contradict the literal text and the historical spirit of the constitution as it has lived for the past 200+ years.

That man received a BOATLOAD of Republican votes for Governor in Florida. His opinions are not grossly different than that of the common republican constituent even if his poll numbers compared to Trump are much different.

Sorry. Wasn’t referring to you. Was referencing the injection of Hitler into the conversation. Has anyone sank faster than DeSantis ?

The most serious problem this country has is not the economy. Though I do agree that it is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. The real problem is that serious problems like the economy can’t be addressed because of ridiculous partisanship like the example I just pointed to.

On your 2nd point, I think the thing we should all be able to agree upon is that the grounds of federal buildings shouldn’t be places that are used to promote or exhibit any religion. It’s a limit to free speech, but it is done in order to remain unbiased. It is not to say that outside of the unbiased common area, a person shouldn’t be able to express their beliefs or opinions. The church and the state should always remain separate.

I’m not a big “church” guy and have no problems placing limits on what can and cannot be displayed in federal buildings as long as the same is applied evenly and without bias.

Ivana Trump in the 1990's saying to her lawyer that Trump had copies of Hitler's speeches on his nightstand.

Why would she lie in a private comment to her lawyer, while not on the stand.

You would have been totally distressed by my 20th century history prof at TU that had his speeches as required reading. It was a study in how to sway the masses.

You would also be aghast if i said i have read them as well as mein kampf, das kapital, the communist manifesto, the quran, the torah, the bible, and huck finn.

I’ve read most of that list as well included a few of Hitler speeches. OSU offered a class on WW2 back in the day. I have a buddy who gives presentations as part of his job. He has watched a number of Hitler’s speeches to pick up delivery and presentation. Hitler was pure evil but one of the best orators of the 20th century…and no, my friend isn’t a Nazi, white nationalist, or any of the other things associated with the Nazis. Just a guy trying to be a better speaker.

I assumed most college educated people have read at least part of Mein Kampf.

I have read most of that list.(Some of it I read excerpts, not the whole work.) What bothers me is the motivations of people that read that list. Trumps motivations weren't good.

Not something someone normally reads before bed and more rare when it’s far outside of school years. Not something that on its own should be problematic…. But when taken in the context of the rest of Trumps attitude it tells a different story about the things he took away from it.

Also, I doubt that Trump is a fervent reader in general so it probably wasn’t something interspersed with a bunch of other books lol.

The other interesting thing is that Trump really isn’t a good orator. He doesn’t make convincing arguments, he meanders in an unstructured manner from one lie to another. His speeches were often extremely droll and uninspiring.

The problem is it works for the audience he is speaking to. Doesn't take much thought to sway those that want to be swayed.

The opening dancer's stance and way of moving, evokes a vaudeville walk, imitated by whites in blackface, in the jim crow era. That's the first trigger. This thing triggers people now, that wouldn't have been triggered 2010 or before. It would have been seen as experimental tap dancers doing an abstract representation of the nutcracker suite. Viewers would have liked it or not, and moved on. Now the far right jumps on it because it's abstract & they can.

No outrage here just thought it was a bit bizarre. This country would be so much better off if the far right and far left both fell off a cliff.

Cant make this stuff up…. Key author in Florida’s “Don’t say gay” bill found to have videotaped threesome with Florida GOP Chair husband who has now been accused of rape.

Bridgett Ziegler is a co-founder of the anti-LGBT group Mom’s for Liberty…. Which is the group that was driving much of DeSantis’ anti-“woke” agenda.

At this rate, the next thing we’ll find out is that Ryan Walters is actually a post op transsexual.
