Joiner - 5
- Showed some flashes and always appreciate his energy. Had a couple strong drives and good passes. Look for him to steal more of Korita’s minutes at one of the wing spots as the season goes on.

Korita - 2 - Very disappointing. Thought about giving him a 3, but 0-2 from the line pushed it down to a 2. Only redeeming quality this game was 3 assists. Expect more from a senior returning starter.

Rachal - 6 - Double-double in his first game in the Blue & Gold. Long and athletic. Needs to start taking the mid-range instead of driving into traffic. Low field goal percentage kept him from a higher rating, but you’ve got to love 4-4 from the line. He will be at the line a lot this year. Overall, a great addition to the team and will have some big games.

Horne - 8 - A quiet 22 points, but you can’t argue with his productivity and efficiency. With our offensive limitations, we will need this type of scoring from him consistently to be competitive in the American.

Igbanu - 7 - Speaking of efficiency...67% (4-6) from the field and 80% (8-10) from the line is a good night at the office from the senior. May need him to be more assertive as the season progresses, but he will be a solid post presence for this team.

Subs
Jackson - 7 - Impact defense, which showed up on the stat sheet with 5 steals. Looked better on offense and much smoother at the foul line, going 3-4. Loved the alley-oop dunk as well. If he can develop into a serviceable outside shooter, watch out.

Hill - 6 - Smooth with the ball and had some nifty passes and tough finishes in traffic. Looked better with him running the point. A few freshman moments, but overall an impressive first game in a TU uniform. Real high upside on this young man.

Jones - 4 - Some good rebounds and a nice backdoor pass to Horne for the layup late in the first half. Also, a couple ugly bricks, including one on a wide open breakaway layup. Need more from him. The good thing is, I think he’s got much more potential than we saw today.

Earley - 5 - Back-to-back buckets early in the second half. Looked like he belonged out there in limited minutes.

Ugboh - N/A - no real impact on the game in his 4 minutes of action. Does look pretty agile for a guy his size. Will be interesting to see who gets more minutes between him and Earley as the season progresses.

Good analysis. I would start your 5 highest rated players.

Good evaluation...,I would have given Joiner a 4-...He made the same mistakes he
made last year at PG...He dribbles from the Key extended area toward the right side
line, never closing the distance to our post man, and passes too often into traffic.....
He needs to play the 2 guard, but we have no options beyond Hill, who should play the major minutes at the PG position..Sadly, I see no progress in his (Joiner's) PG intuits....His other drive is a bull rush down the middle that is nsometimes OK, sometimes a turnover....If he could play the two, a combination of him, Rachal, and Jackson would be something to really have to contend with when they
3/4 court press...

As the team is currently put together, we lack enough 3 pt. snooters....
Horne will do 35-40%, Hill will turn out to be in that range, and not much
from others outside the arc..Haywood would help......

Ugboh will look better against a team that has a true center, but will he
look good enough....He may be a project, but is athletic enough to learn
and execute......

Good team, but not a good shooting team....We will probably get better
in that area, but will it be soon enough?

The Jones missed layup after he stole the ball and tapped it to himself was embarrassing. I can almost guarantee he was thinking of what type of dunk should he do instead of just put the ball in the basket.

Haywood, Korita,Joiner, Christopoulos, Hill........somebody else needs to be a good 3 point shooter. The bubble teams usually get there with good 3 point shooting.....not an inside game. I can imagine what we looked like inside against that block monster from OSU in the scrimmage. Memphis will not let us shoot within 10 feet. On a positive note, we looked really good at the free throw line. Good form and confidence (except Lawson). That may win us some close games.
